Kat, have you heard the news that came out? The cast of Firefly are teasing some big news for March 15th. !!!!!

Taco Wolf

When River first wakes up in the hospital she gives Jayne a look that implies that she was getting some kinda sus vibe from him, but doesn't follow up on it. I guess I assumed it was bc she's too all over the place. I kinda thought that the reason she cuts him in the start of the episode is bc she knows that he betrays them, but is doling out the punishment way too early. We get more River lore later, that I'm not going to spoil, but it definitely makes for some interesting theory crafting on episodes like this when you rewatch them.

That's an interesting reason why she sliced him! I always assumed it was because of the shirt (which I won't say why in the comments because it's a spoiler for the movie), but both could be true!

Love that you wanted more development for River and you got some! No spoilers, but we're gonna get some good stuff for River next episode. And I always interpreted her scream in the scanner as knowing something bad is going to happen, but she didn't fully know what yet...just that she sensed danger. And I think her psychic abilities are intentionally written to be sporadic and inconsistent, since she is a traumatized sixteen-year-old. So, she knew that danger was coming but was unable to articulate what or how. Can't wait for the next episode, which is one of my faves!!

Digital Droo

I'm only part way into the reaction so forgive me if it's been addressed, but thought I'd point out that they didn't build a ship. They got the ship from the scrapyard. It's the thing Wash threw the engine part at.

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

I think the implication is that River at least in some sense knew what Jayne was planning, that's why she preemptively stabbed him and why her brain scan went all flashy. It's just that she has so much trouble communicating anything to anyone, either speaking in riddles or in a way that has dual context, or she doesn't just doesn't speak much at all. Something is clearly up with River but we as an audience seem to have a little better sense of her abilities then the crew does.

re: River's abilities Think about how vision might sound to a blind person. It sounds like a superpower, because we can see things that are silent, but that doesn't mean that we can see everything all the time. I think River's abilities are similar. She apparently can sense some things, but not everything all the time. Another analogy would be looking at the world through a telescope -- you can see some things in great detail, but only with a very limited field of view.

re: building the air ambulance They took a junker, painted it, and repaired it just enough that it would work for a few hours. That's not a sustainable business model (unless they immediately skip town after each sale).

seven tessipates

it's never explained in the show, but the reason she slashes Jayne's shirt is the same reason she removes the can labels in one ep- she's subconciously hating the Blue Sun corp who is behind well ... every thing.
