Kat, Well we really don't like this movie even if done by you. Which you by yourself actually wins. We will take the week off maybe watch something on your YT page. We still love you

CLFuqua87

Oh hell yeah. This will be my evening viewing.

Robert Raszkowski

KAT - and You know from where "OMG - they killed Kenny" came from! XD I told You - this is one THE greatest movies of the 80's and that means something in this era of The Best movies ever made. Terminator came first of course. But the feeling for this movie is different mainly because of the director - Paul Verhoeven. He directed such classics as this "Robocop", "Total Recall", "Starship Troopers" - all of those You need to see. But there is also a great sequle to this one. Robocop 2 was directed by Irvin Kershner (Star Wars - "Empire Strikes Back") and I love this movie. I will put it in Awesome Movie Sequels catgory. There are few of those. T1 and T2, Alien and Aliens, Predator and Predator 2 It is a shame that non of those great movies had great (or at least good) third sequle. (Alien 3 is not a terrible movie and I will defend it. But the begining of the story of that movie... could be better) Anyway - Please - do Yourself a favor a watch the second movie as well. RoboCop has a main theme, it is somewhat changed in the second movie, but I I still like it. Great effects in both, great music and great acting with a bit of humor. Stop motion is always great - and I will take it over any CGI effects any time. Also practical effects - same thing. I mean when CGI is good than it does not bother me. But ask Yourself a question - would You like to see the "Thing" with CGI?? Or "Fly"? And now since You know what Peter Weller can do in a role... "Leviatan" from 1989 - great B sea horror movie - I reccomand.

Code Monkey

Ridiculously over the top; but fun. I'll buy that for a dollar! 😆

Who's "we"? You have someone in your pocket? 😉 J/J

No we stands for my gf and I. Kat knows what I mean, and she is the only one that counts.

There is a sequel. Robocop 2 is an excellent "bad movie", one of my favorite genuinely enjoyable bad movies ever, and I would highly recommend that you watch it. Robocop 3 is just genuinely bad with nothing worth watching about it at all, and I would highly recommend that you pretend that it does not exist and there was never a Robocop 3. I am in the minority in sincerely enjoying the modern Remake Robocop as well, primarily for philosophical reasons. Although not as good as the first or second, it has a few excellent moments in it. The real horror of this movie is when your gum loses its flavor but you don't have any more gum.

Also, Dredd (2012) and Upgrade (2018), though not technically sequels to this movie, are similar films well worth your time. Dredd, especially, gets even better if Robocop is still fresh in your mind when you watch it.

No one does satire like Verhoeven! Timeless classic.

Lauren

Dressed for the occasion. Got my Robocop shirt on, ready to go!

CLFuqua87

You should finish the Verhoeven scifi trilogy. Total Recall and Starship Troopers are classic bloody fun.

I remember buying tickets to see The Living Daylights and then sneaking in to see Robocop. Getting caught and kicked out of Robocop. Then having to sit though the last bit of The Living Daylights wishing it was, up until that point in my life, the greatest thing I'd ever set eyes on....Robocop.

The other guy from Clarence Boddicker's crew that you recognize is probably Ray Wise, who played Leland Palmer in Twin Peaks (as well as a whole raft of other memorable appearances). It could also be Paul McCrane (the toxic waste guy), whose biker hair and beard disguise the face you might know more as Dr. Romano from ER. The suit was largely practical effects, except for a few shots during the fight with ED-209.. They built an actual suit and put poor Peter Weller in it... originally it was supposed to be a lot less bulky, and Weller had to essentially re-design his planned performance around the much bulkier practical version of the suit, hence the stylized movements during the shootouts (some of that was just to help him keep his balance in the top-heavy suit). You'll be delighted to know that the Robocop suit and its related effects were designed by none other than the legendary Rob Bottin, who brought us the special effects for John Carpenter's The Thing in 1982. When I saw this movie as a kid, the trailers and all the movie ads gave away the look of the suit, so it's always great to watch someone who has no idea what they're in for get a look at the full body shots of the complete Robocop suit for the first time. We didn't have that build-up, and it takes something away from the movie's reveal when you know what you're about to see because the trailers fed it to you months in advance. Peter Weller is a phenomenal actor's actor who went on to be in a few more movies after Robocop, but he got somewhat tired of the Hollywood rat race and semi-retired to get a PhD in history, and now mostly works as an academic, with the occasional foray back into acting when he feels like it. If you ever see him in a movie, know that he's about to turn in a great performance. So glad you got to see this one! It's such an artifact of it's time, yet a lot of its predictions about the future seen from 1987 ended up pretty on the nose, for good or for ill. It was controversial and roundly criticized at its release for its hyperviolence, with a lot of critics missing the fact that it was intentional satire. This was directed by a Dutchman who was very much critiquing the America of the 1980s, with all it's mass consumption, easy violence, corporate raiding, and media gloss. And yes, Terminator came first, and was acknowledged as a heavy influence for this one. The sequel, Robocop 2, is not as good as the original, but still worth a watch. It's got the same things to say about 1980s America, but the criticism is a bit less deft than in the first movie. Robocop 3, and the various attempts at Robocop TV series, you can skip right over though... none were very good at all.

Could we have an option to watch the full length reaction without the embedded movie, like it used to be?

Tinderbox

Please mute the sound of your inset film. Its audio messes with our own separate device sound and overwhelms your comments.

The epitome of people going through glass is the fast and furious series lol it is nonstop and once you notice you can't unsee it 😂

I think this was the best of the three for actually making a good character, but total recall is the best of the three in terms of structure, it was almost artistic (unfortunately verhoeven also made showgirls so it's hard to give him too much credit as an auteur). Regardless, a great movie. Starship Troopers is a classic B-movie and it fucking rocks.

People that get shot in the head do sometimes survive. Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was shot in the head during an assassination attempt and is still with us, though not without lingering effects.

Daniel Turbyfill

The problem is so many people miss satire these days and take it as face value.

Daniel Turbyfill

What’s terrible is that so much of the satire has become reality. For example, the privatization and corporatization of institutions that should be non-profit or governmental like hospitals, prisons, police, etc.

StellarDreams

It is possible to survive a bullet to the brain! Pretty rare but does happen. Also you're right about holding the pistols, movies almost always get it wrong.

Tony Bain

I believe the canon about what is kept of original Murphy is that it's part of his brain (maybe most of it), part of his spinal column and his face skin. The face skin mask is basically draped over the machine skull to keep his face looking like him and still human with the thinking being that it keeps him rooted and stops him from going completely insane from his transformation.
