Tom W.

I remember seeing this in the theater. Good, but a bit uneven at times.

Jeffrey Thomas

this is coming out on 4K on August 11th, if anyone is into watching UHD movies.

RJ

The cast of this wacky movie will never cease to amaze me.

StellarDreams

I love this movie. So ridiculous.

K, Zachary

Yes! Finally one that Cassie hasn't watched. A Sci-fi comedy

davherex

Way ahead of ya, brother. I got my preorder in as soon as I found out. 👍🏽

I hadn't seen this for a while, and was struck by how excellent both the effects work and score were. Arguably one of Elfman's best. And under other circumstances, a scene with Jack Nicholson and Rod Steiger yelling at each other. Two powerhouse actors of their era. Oh, that could have really been something in a serious dramatic context. The burn wasn't country music in general, I think, just Slim Whitman and his yodeling. And by the way, if you didn't notice, Grandma was Sylvia Sydney, who was Juno, the caseworker, in "Beetlejuice." What a goofy movie this one was.

Kat, this wasn’t so much a dig at country music in general, but at country yodeling sensation Slim Whitman (who ALLEGEDLY sold more albums than The Beatles) in particular. It was his high pitched yodeling that made the Martians’ heads explode. And yes, it IS “nuclear”, not “nucular”. They were making fun of people who pronounced it wrong. Also, the Martians were actually saying “Ack ack ack!”, not really “bat!”

I have the reissued set of cards they did in the 1980s. Cool drawings.

Who Are These People

I don't know if this is too late to post here, but I'm nominating 'The Color Out of Space' (2019), one of the best Lovecraft movie adaptations I've seen.

Mattoid

Watched bits of this but never sat through the whole thing until now. Thank you Kat, that was a joy. The song that does them all in is Indian Love Call by Slim Whitman (1952)

RJ Inkglider

I didn't like it. No coherent theme, kind of misanthropic, like most Burton movies.

K, Zachary

Sorry forgive the lateness of my reply was on vacation. Cassie from Popcorn In Bed another reactioner who actually let me know about Kat.
