Some horror for your Thursday night!

Owen Kosik

Oh shit I haven't seen it yet, should we watch it for the first time together?

Toxic Ghost

“If there’s something uncanny in this movie I’ll be upset.” 😅 Kat I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but…

Paul K. Bisson

I just saw this last night at the flicks!

K, Zachary

We saw this in theater My gf had her theories. Stanley Kubrick would have loved this movie. She told me about the Backrooms creepy pasta. If there a infinite number multi-verses then a limitless number of ways something can turn out just like in the backrooms. However she compared it to a Salvardor Dali it's not horrifying like a conventional horror movie but more of a dream like experience. I guess there is an extra 15 minutes on the directors YT page. That's what my friends told me. This is like the Twilight Zone on steroids. That's what I said. Psychological theory: https://youtube.com/shorts/NwYJv5yXMPc?is=NnQ7OrEABk5NQVwn

Loved this Film, very creative. Loving this Kat fest ! This is what your Fans need Armenastra by the Barrelful 24/7. Best Paton ever. Loving the fact that more then likely i would have never seen this. Thank you. Sorry but I believe that you need a PHD in Physics to figure this one out.

StellarDreams

I saw this at a drive-in double feature with Obsession a few weeks ago! Was a rough one lol

Paul K. Bisson

Your theory is dead on. Backrooms full of distorted memories / versions of everybody who has ever stumbled in — whether they die in there or escape. It’s what you leave behind. Phil said doors are opening everywhere. Great reaction! I should’ve waited a day and saved $25 on a ticket! lol One more thing, Mary went to the store because it was Clark on the answering machine not her mother.

Toxic Ghost

I was going to point that out too! They sort of sound similar in a way.

Daniel Turbyfill

As a therapist Mary has a responsibility to check on a client that she thinks may have become a danger to himself.

Dave_Dot_Executable

It coulda been worse. Imagine how terrifying it would have been if the guy sold kitchen appliances like REFRIGERATORS.

Daniel Turbyfill

I know nothing about the Backrooms lore, but my interpretation is that it looks like some form of the collective unconscious that has somehow become physically accessible. So everything that anyone has experienced or dreamed exists there. You are correct about our memory. It’s not a recording, it’s a recreation, and it can be manipulated.

TGrimace

There's a lot of theories and thoughts about the backrooms. But the truth is, nobody is going to be able to explain it to you because nobody knows. There is deep lore about the backrooms, and dozens and dozens of games that have trickled out over the past several years. Youtube videos, videogames, wikis. The only thing that rivals it for rich lore is SCP. Couple of things: I've watched a number of reactor reacting to this movie. NOBODY has yelled out 'Eat Him! Take a bite of his delicious jaw'. Nobody. Not once until now. I loved it, and couldn't stop laughing. Second, the phone call was from Clark. That why she went to the furniture store. The mom did have a raspy voice, but I'm not sure how you mistook Clark's voice for hers. Haha. Loved the reaction. It was awesome!

Jeffrey Thomas

wow Kat has been on-point with the new releases lately. i love that, because while i watched on Tuesday b/c i had the calendar marked, now i know theres a fun new way to rewatch it after awhile.

Brandon

Just want to say awesome job getting this out so quickly. I saw the movie released Tuesday and held off purchasing to see if a reactor would drop quick, and I was super hoping it would be you first.. and it was!! You are on the pulse, and you got that spark girl!!

Who Are These People

I found this one fascinating. It's really a metaphor for human psychology. We *think* we think, but how much is just subconscious compulsion and rationalization? The "layout" of the backrooms is like how messed up our thinking processes become when we twist things to suit ourselves. And how we remember things gets twisted the longer the memory fades and we fill in parts of what we've forgotten until what we remember is no longer the reality that occured.

Liminal Spaces: The places themselves (abandoned malls, empty corridors, etc.) are often called liminal spaces—transitional or "in-between" areas that feel uncanny because they're stripped of their normal purpose and crowds. This evokes unease, nostalgia, or disorientation due to violated expectations of bustle.

Code Monkey

I really wanted to like this movie just like I wanted to like the YouTube videos it was based on. Maybe I'm just not intellectual enough; and I'm sure all the smart people here will confirm, but I've decided that sometimes crap is just crap. No matter how great the creator's backstory is and no matter how much we want it to be great.

James Cole

Did you really say “Doiy?!?”🤪🤪

katwatcheshorrormovies

YAY JAMES!! I’m so glad you’re loving it, it makes me so happy!! Super creative film. Totally agree!

katwatcheshorrormovies

A totally valid opinion. I sometimes like to end a movie with questions, but NOT TOO MANY.

James Cole

A unique and irreplaceable word that must be brought back into the common English vernacular. And, impeccable pronunciation, eh? Keep it up!

Chris

Bed Bath and Backrooms 😂

Melting Jewel Candles

I’m just so happy I get to see the movie play in your recent videos. I really didn’t want to watch this movie but I’m watching it because you’re just my favorite reactor! The looks you give to the camera and you’re so funny. I have a blast with you. Thanks.

Raider Ron

Kat I don't know if you have seen the Twilight Zone but maybe start with the Twilight Zone movie. All the episodes are amazing and just make you think.

RJ Inkglider

I think it's a near-masterpiece of atmospheric and cosmic horror. The feeling evoked by abandoned places combined with an apparently supernatural/alien element is incredibly creepy and the cinematography was an homage to great movies like the Shining. I felt the plot to be effective, but ultimately a little frustrating. Overall I give it an A- or B+.

RJ Inkglider

I'm glad someone finally did this topic justice. I've been obsessed with the idea of making a liminal spaces movie for decades. I've always been motivated by the idea whenever I'm in a hotel hallway and am reminded of The Shining and how much empty places evoke dread. I've always been a fan of post-apocalyptic movies like Omega Man also. It's just a deep vein for horror and mystery.

RJ Inkglider

In my headcanon, Mary was assigned to Clark's case through the courts via some domestic abuse charge and he has to complete some number of therapy sessions as a part of his sentencing agreement. When he doesn't show up Mary feels badly and wants to give him one last chance before she reports him to the authorities for non-compliance.

RJ Inkglider

"Maybe all the broken things end up in the backrooms.. If I see the throne in there then I'll know." You were right Kat, the throne did end up over there. I think there's something to your theory. The broken people end up in the backrooms too.

RJ Inkglider

I love how the Backrooms space looks a lot like an abstract art installation at the MOMA in NYC or something. We've seen this kind of horror of the mundane explored in art museums for the last 50 years, and it's pretty cool that it finally found a way to be featured in a horror movie. It's kind of a synthesis of the Shining and Office Space.

RJ Inkglider

"Found the pool at least again.. No you didn't, you found another weird-ass room."- Kat

RJ Inkglider

I still return to this movie despite finding it frustrating. As a first directorial effort it's amazing, but it feels torn in two directions. I loved the uncanny valley feeling of the set design above all.
