Littlebootz

you made it to the tribbles :)

Toxic Ghost

You’ll get the into one day Kat I believe it! 😅

It warms my heart to see you enjoy these characters and these relationships. When I revisit this franchise, I skip the first movie (Star Trek: the Motion Picture) and go straight to Star Trek II, Star Trek III, and Star Trek IV. The first four movies came out before the Next Generation TV series was aired so if you watch II, III, and IV and then go back to watching ST:TNG, you will be following the release order.

Kat, I saw one list of Star Trek episodes that listed The Enterprise Incident and The Tholian Web. If that list was the most recent one then you have two left. Even if it isn't its still a good episode for you to watch. -

Another great episode and another great reaction. "Tribbles" — whose original title was "A Fuzzy Thing Happened to Me...," written by Hugo-awarding-winning David Gerrold, is one of the finest examples of Trek's approach to outright comedy. Cute, cuddly (but deceptively dangerous) furry animals, an uproarious cafeteria brawl, and a Klingon threat!—all of which allows for continued character growth not only from our three main characters, but also from Chekov, Uhura, and Scotty. Really delightful. "Tribbles" has two sequels: "More Tribbles, More Troubles" (1973) from Star Trek: The Animated Series (TAS) and "Trials and Tribble-ations" (1996) from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (DS9). The TAS episode is a nice call-back and is not required viewing but the DS9 episode is a must-watch when you start compiling your DS9 journey (wishful thinking?). "Tribble-ations" was written for the 30th anniversary of Star Trek and it is magnificent. I daresay it qualifies as a direct sequel episode you can watch right now, off your journey track, as it's mostly self-contained and poses minimal spoilers for DS9's continuity thanks to its anniversary nature. I can't believe we're already near the end of the TOS watch! I kinda hoped that this limited, best-of run would spark an interest in watching more. Yes, you've watched the crème de la crème but out of 79 episodes there is a solid "B batch" too. Members here have pointed out several good options. Perhaps we can poll for another ten at that level? lol More wishful thinking. I also want to advocate for watching at least ONE or TWO Animated Series episodes before you warp to the movies. Some are very well written; Gene Roddenberry invited key TOS writers to work on TAS; D.C. (Dorothy) Fontana who wrote "Journey to Babel" and your next watch, "The Enterprise Incident," came back and wrote the best episode of TAS: "Yesteryear." If you do only watch one from this series, it should be this one. Finally, I have to admit that I'm super-stoked for your movie trek. And yes, you should watch them in release order. Indeed, you can't watch 2-4 any other way! Thanks, KAT! PS: Did that flying menace ever return?

Of course Spock included the reproduction of the tribbles in his calculation! He wouldn't make a mistake about that!

Michael Gehrman

Watch Wolf in the Fold and Specter of the Gun! Avoid the first movie which was lame.

You're so close on the intro! This was really the first Star Trek episode to work as a mostly-comedic episode, and proved that the universe didn't have to be all spit-and-polish serious all the time. It helped pave the way for the occasional foray into comedy in later entries in the franchise. When you get to the movies, the first six (from 1979 through 1991) are with the original TOS crew. You'll want to save the seventh movie, "Star Trek Generations," until after you've finished TNG, as that film is set after TNG's seventh and final season. There is a lot of fan debate as to which movies are "the good ones," and if "the bad ones" are worth skipping; my vote would be to watch them all since each of the six is contributing to the overall legacy of the franchise, your mileage may vary. If you do watch all six, I would definitely recommend the Director's Cut of the 1st movie, as it was behind deadlines during filming and rushed to theaters with some of the special effects sequences cut out to save time, and the Director's Cut restores those missing sequences (with CGI from the early 2000s). I would also gently recommend the Director's Cut of the 2nd and 6th movies as well, though the footage restored there is a bit more indulgent and not absolutely integral to the plots. There is a question as to whether or not you'll want to intersperse the 5th and 6th films with the TOS crew into your viewing of TNG, as the first season of TNG started after the 4th movie was released. Honestly, you can watch them interspersed with TNG, or watch all the TOS movies before resuming TNG, and it won't effect your Trek journey.... you'll just miss a couple small in-universe easter eggs that are in there for the fans.

Dude, could you not spoil when tribbles come back? Walking into those episodes cold is such a gift as a fan.

Daniel Turbyfill

As far as watch order for the films. The original series cast movies are numbered after the first one (Star Trek The Motion Picture or TMP for short). So you simply watch in number order one through six.

Paul K. Bisson

I appreciate your perspective. I hate spoilers, too. But what I've written, an episode title and series name, is categorically non-spoiler. And it's the exact same information Kat will poll us for when she makes her watch list when it comes to those shows.

Victor E. Darlage

If you want to see another comedic episode, watch "A Piece of the Action." That one is comic gold!

Michael clark

How can you not watch all of these. Even the not so good ones have our friends

Who Are These People

the insect that attacked looked like a fruit fly. Wasn't big enough to be a housefly, wasn't long and thin like a mosquito. It looks like you're going to survive. Unless you're a banana.

Robert Raszkowski

Now that was the "INTRO"! XD YaY You met the Tribbles! :D Actually this little episode does have more... consequences... in the future. So please do keep an eye for those. ;) Yeah - motion pictures of the original Trek crew are 6 and a half. But I do advise to continue the sieries and of course TNG. KAT please watch whole TNG series. It get's better and better. And we can really get to know the characters and very important events in the whole series. For me there are no "filler" episodes there. Sure some are better and more important than others but non withought meaning. Onto the next. KAT-ship flies by.

RJ Inkglider

I always wondered why they didn't have a cat on board the Enterprise. Having cats on board ships was a longstanding tradition, and even the ship in Alien had a kitty (Jones).

RJ Inkglider

I grew up watching Star Trek reruns and TNG. It's so sad what they've done to this franchise in recent years. It's basically been destroyed.

RJ Inkglider

The secret to memorizing the intro is that Kirk says "new" three times: 1) to explore strange NEW worlds, 2) to seek out NEW life and 3)NEW civilizations, and to boldly go where no man has gone before.

Michael Davis

Kat. I've seen you act. I'm confident that, being WONDERFUL, you can memorize the Star Trek intru PERFECTLY!
