Code Monkey

Concerning Rambo's knife: If I recall correctly; there was storage inside the handle for things like matches, needle and thread, etc. And; the cap of the handle was a compass.

CJGardner

I remember being totally shocked by the end, too. I don't know about the mine itself (but I guess why not), but this was filmed in Hope, BC. One of the first films (to my childhood recollection, anyway) that 'created a buzz' that it was actually filming.. in Canada? A movie?? With a big star??? Whoaaaaa.....!

Code Monkey

For what it's worth; this movie is a very watered down version of the book. All the people he simply injured in the movie he straight up killed. And then some! 😆. Also; a _very_ different ending.

To answer some of Your questions KAT... First - it was compass that he turned off from his knife. Second - he carved out this "poncho" because of cold. Third - cliff jump to a tree that was very much a real stunt by Stolone. He broke a rib. Actually the stunt man jumped first into an airbag. And then Stalone was fillmed falling down the tree branches. Still - impressive. This was filmed in British Columbia in Canada. This movie is more a action drama. And yeah - I did so well that of course the Hollywood machine demanded sequels. One of the best movie squels but of course some are better than others. I actually just came back from the woods (mushroom foreging) when I saw this post and was very excited that You watched this! Yes - I am all for watching more Rambo movies - they are all "fun time". :)

Second only to the Movie ''Rocky'' The best Stallone has to offer. Canada is so Beautiful. RIP to the Great Actors Crenna/Dennehy /Mckinney. Also others that i might have missed. It's a Compass on top of his Survival Knife. Thanks and please indulge into the sequels.

CLFuqua87

That beautiful Jerry Goldsmith score.

David Crabtree

Every Rambo movie is great in its own unique way. The sequels are more action heavy. Number 2 is my personal favorite.

Donnie MOORE

That red headed deputy that yankrd his dog tags off? Was played by David Caruso in an early role. Before NYPD Blue and CSI. Sheriffs over the top.

Walter

The first film is the best, IMO. The sequels are much more action and less (successful) drama. But I still enjoy them. You should dip in to Westerns. There are so many worth watching, but I'd recommend Silverado as a good entry point. Incredible cast.

Mister Lou

"Nothing is over! Nothing! You just don't turn it off!" Love this movie!

Daniel Turbyfill

Survival knives became a big thing after this movie.

If you don’t loosen the tourniquet regularly, you will end up having to amputate the limb because you will have killed the flesh through lack of blood flow.

Code Monkey

YES! I know me and all my friends had one! 😆

I know for an absolute fact that Kat has one of them knives, only it doesn't have the matches in the handle.

The DIRECTOR was Canadian, too -- the great Ted Kotcheff! Got his start on British TV (directing under the name "William Kotcheff"), and wound up doing this, "Wake In Fright", "The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz", and "Weekend at Bernie's", among many other great films. :-)

Matt Blanchette

And RIP to Ted Kotcheff, the Great Director.

CJGardner

Nice! I didn't know that!

Matt Blanchette

You can find some of the stuff he directed for "Armchair Theatre" in the UK under the name "William Kotcheff" on YouTube right now, actually -- I've checked! :-) Up to a certain point, all TV went out live, so Kotcheff's stint with "Armchair Theatre" also has the rather morbid distinction of having an actor die during a live broadcast of a play -- of a heart attack, after which the production team frantically had to improvise around the actor's absence DURING the live broadcast. :-|

What kind of mushrooms do you pick? I hunt morels here in Virginia.

Robert Raszkowski

Hi there - Porcini, birch bolete, chanterelle, bay bolete, and parasol mushroom – these are the most common mushrooms you can find in Poland. :) Oh and Slippery Jack - forgot about those...
