You did it Kat! Can't to watch this one with you.

Matt Blanchette

OH MY GOD :-D You know, I gave the book this is based on to the actress Tatiana Maslany, a few weeks ago, as a very early birthday present -- I hope she watches the movie, at some point! (If she hasn't seen your channel already, of course.)

Paul K. Bisson

This notification popped up on my phone right in the middle of a session, and I nearly fell out of my seat. I had to come here to see if it’s true! And it’s true! You’re watching my favorite Exorcist film! OK, must go back to work. But I’ll be back!!

K, Zachary

Now that I am interracial relationship. This movie does have a lot of racist dialogue.

John

I came just for the scene where the guy appears behind the nurse with head clipper.

Daniel Turbyfill

I don't know if you noticed, but the author of The Exorcist and its follow up novel Legion (that this film is based off) was also the writer and director of this film, William Peter Blattey. He also read the audiobook of The Exorcist, which is amazing. I highly recommend reading both novels.

Izanne

Man this movie is so good! I’m so glad you enjoyed it

James At the Peak

Finally ! Thanks a Billion. ''It's A wonderful Channel''. Worth every Penny. Four Years ? The real Horror for me was not catching on to your Genius for a spell. The Actor in the Dream Sequence was Fabio famed Italian Model/Author /Actor. RIP G. C. Scott/Jason Miller and others who passed the Pearly Gates.

EmilyKT

YES!!!!!!!!!!!! I CANNOT WAIT TO WATCH THIS! Except I have to, because I won't be done with work for a few more hours... :/ Counting down the minutes, lol

2026-09-24 22:00 Not knowing the difference between a radio and a telephone, that's the real horror of this movie. Brad Dourif is a genuine treasure. And wait until you see what his daughter can do.

The hospital hallway scene is legitimately the best horror scene of all time, in my opinion. Suspenseful and terrifying.

CLFuqua87

The Exorcist and Legion are based on William Blatty’s novels of the same name. They are true directly linked storylines and characters. If you’re a reader I highly recommend them if you can handle some of the darker content. Fun aside for this movie, Brad Dourif who plays the Gemini killer (and Wormtongue from Two Towers) also voiced Chucky. As soon as he says “child’s play” they cut to a boy with red hair. 😆

s8150f

Three is best of the series.

Robert Raszkowski

Yesss - Happy Channel anniversary - KAT! :) I'm glad to be a part of Your "family". :) Gorge C Scott - truly was a great actor. I recommend "Doctor Strangelove", "Patton", "Taps", "The Changeling", "Malice", "Hardcore". One of the angels was Fabio (long blonde hair man - in case You don't know - famous model) the other (young black gentleman putting out cards) was played by "King Kong" Patrick Ewing (New York Knicks center). It is second best Exorcist movie and in my opinion only one worth watching. I saw others. Congrats KAT for making this far... ;)

2026-09-24 22:00 yay! we're so back! stoked to have another horror up and happy channelversary! yeah some of the dialogue in this erm... hasn't aged well. we can still critique and call it out, while enjoying the rest of the film though. if you're up for another great thriller/mystery/horror I highly recommend checking out Manhunter (1986) from Michael Mann. It's a prequel to Silence of the Lambs and is based on the book Red Dragon. Michael Mann also wrote and directed Heat, which several people have recommended since you started doing mafia movies. He has a very cool style of directing.

I don't know if this was mentioned in the reaction, but I searched here and could not find a reaction to the first Exorcist movie, though it is on Kat's YouTube channel. Did that reaction predate Kat's Patreon?

Oooh this is a classic. I adore George C. Scott's idiosyncratic performance in this. I grew up near Georgetown in Virginia and spent a lot of time as a kid hanging around M street (we'd take the bus & subway) and this movie really takes me back (even more so than the Exorcist, which was before my time). George was a fellow Virginian, born in Wise.

RJ Inkglider

I didn't know his daughter was in the business. So may nepo-babies in Hollywood.

RJ Inkglider

You know Tatiana? I'm a huge Orphan Black fan.

RJ Inkglider

The wide, winglike headpiece traditionally worn by some Catholic sisters is called a cornette. Its original purpose was to allow religious sisters to blend in with ordinary, working-class people while serving the poor in 17th century French communities. How this tradition ended up in Georgetown in late 20th century I have no idea.

RJ Inkglider

The weird psychiatrist was played by Scott Wilson, who went on to great fame playing the incredibly sympathetic Herschel Greene in The Walking Dead. He had a long and varied career in movies and tv. He passed away in 2018.

I'm so glad you enjoyed this one! A few things: Willima Peter Blatty wrote two books in this series: The Exorcist and Legion, which are the first and third movie. The second movie was a quick studio cash grab and had nothing to do with Blatty's writing outside of the Regan character. And Legion is actually a direct sequel to The Exorcist...it's tough to tell if you've only seen the movie once 3-4 years ago, but Det. Kinderman is the detective from the first movie who was investigating Burke Dennings death...and Fr. Dyer is the priest friend of Damien Karras. Both roles were re-cast for this movie, with George C. Scott replacing Lee J Cobb and Ed Flanders replacing William O'Malley. And I love the dynamic Scott and Flanders bring to their roles. Every time I watch this movie, I always think about how much I'd have loved an Odd Couple style comedy with these two. They are so funny and their chemistry is top tier. And William Peter Blatty actually wrote the comedic scenes as well, those are lifted straight from the book! The lemon drop conversation is actually from The Exorcist, not Legion. I read both books this summer and they're great! Real page-turners. Blatty adapted both of his novels for the screen and directed this one! I'm surprised that he only ever directed two films, because he was really good at it! The only actor to reprise his role from the first film is Jason Miller as Damien. He was originally supposed to be in the movie more, but apparently was really struggling with alcoholism, and that's why they brought in Brad Dourif to play The Gemini (at least that's the online version of things, so this may only be partly true). And there is a "director's cut" on the blu-ray...but the added scenes have the quality of a 90's camcorder video, sooo....and the ending was originally supposed to be how the book ends, which does NOT include an exorcism. The ending of the book is much quieter, very bittersweet, but the studios wanted to tie it into The Exoricst...which is also why it's called Exorcist III and not Legion. And finally (man I can ramble about this movie)...Geoge C. Scott and Brad Dourif did not win awards for this movie. It was not a critical hit and has had a re-evaluation over the years. George C. Scott did win an Oscar for Patton in the 70's, and Brad Dourif was nominated for One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. But if you want to see more of their work (and who wouldn't?), you can check out The Changeling (starring George C. Scott) and Child's Play (featuring the voice of Brad Dourif). I think that's it...I love this movie. :) OK, one more thing, lol. Brad Dourif is so unbelievably good in this movie. Every time I watch it, I am riveted to my seat, and I cannot look away. It's so intense and scary...and the arc is fascinating to watch. It's genuinely brilliant.

RJ Inkglider

Apparently Jason Miller (who played Father Karras in The Exorcist) didn't appear in the original shoot but the studio intervened and had him appear in a few scenes for continuity and to connect Legion (the original name of the film) to The Exorcist. Miller was suffering with advanced alcoholism and his scenes were very limited as you can see. It ended up being kind of confusing, but I'm glad the reshoots were done.

K, Zachary

You know you should watch Monster The Lizzie Borden Story. You would love it.

RJ Inkglider

In ancient Rome, a "legion" was a massive military unit consisting of thousands of soldiers. In the context of the Bible—and Blatty's story—it signifies a massive, overwhelming swarm of distinct evil entities operating as a collective whole

EmilyKT

Samuel L. Jackson is in that dream sequence too! He had one line, but it was dubbed. And I totally agree with you about The Changeling! I'd love to see her react to that....great movie.

Matt Blanchette

Not as well as Kat's guest for the "Ready or Not" watchalong knows her, I'm pretty sure. :-) So, if Kat's already on Tat's radar, I would not be surprised at all. (And, yeah; "Orphan Black" is one of the best shows of all time. 10th anniversary of Tatiana winning an Emmy just passed!)

Matt Blanchette

"The Changeling" was shot in Vancouver! At The Bridge studio, I think, even.

Matt Blanchette

He has a cameo in the restaurant scene, siting at a table with former U.S. Surgeon General C. Everett Koop. (Koop has a very distinctive beard.)

Matt Blanchette

The "Legion" book is PROPERLY nuts. (In case you're wondering if this means I've read it, yes, I have.)

Matt Blanchette

It's the Problem of Evil, Inkglider. It's the NUMBING of your moral sense!

Matt Blanchette

She played the younger version of Charles Lee Ray in the "Chucky" TV series!

Dave_Dot_Executable

Not knowing the difference between a radio and a telephone, that's the real horror of this movie. Brad Dourif is a genuine treasure. And wait until you see what his daughter can do.

RJ Inkglider

The writing was really good for this one. Might even be better than the original, at least in terms of punchy dialog.

RJ Inkglider

The ret-con that Kinderman and Karras were best friends was slightly jarring. In the Exorcist they are only acquaintances.

RJ Inkglider

Kat knew what was going to happen. No fooling her.

RJ Inkglider

This movie is a tour-de-force of writing and directing but it's too slow and ponderous for the early 90s mass audiences (let alone today's). It's a beautifully made film and I love it dearly though.

RJ Inkglider

"The devil is possessing people and getting them to do it." You called it pretty early!

Edge

Brad Dourif was incredible and should have won every award that award season for this role. He won a Saturn award but should have gotten an Oscar.

RJ Inkglider

I wonder what happened to the beautiful matte paintings like the one at 28:03 after shooting. It seems such a shame to throw them away.

CJGardner

I'm sure it's been explained somewhere and I just haven't seen it in my travels, but why is your first reaction of The Exorcist not on Patreon and only on YouTube? Watching this made me want to go back and rewatch the first like I originally did on YouTube, but it's not on here.

Taco Wolf

The Exorcist was the first reaction video that she posted on youtube, so it was before she started Patreon.

SpideyJ

"You saw muscle tissue... every sinew..." Kat fear-droppin' bars over here. 😂

STRONGLY recommend The Changeling with George C. Scott, a Canadian horror gem!

Octobre

The insanely (ah) talented actor who plays the Gemini Killer/Possessed by Father Karras is Brad Dourif. You might know him for being Chucky's voice in the Child's Play movies ;) Severely underrated.

RJ Inkglider

His leading role as Hazel Motes in John Houston's Wise Blood was brilliant.

RJ Inkglider

That's my favorite Fincher movie. The Game is really good too.
