YAY!!! Hitchcock+Deadwood = Hitchwood! (Take that, Barbenheimer!)

Louis Marzullo

It's a great week but I'm an old man; I have to complain about something: it doesn't start until Wed!! 😄... I can't believe the South Park movie is 25 years old⏳🙁

Scott

Yes my love!!! Thank you for watching Deadwood...can't wait to watch it with ya!!🥰😍

Zack Gallardo

I'm so EXCITED EXCITED for this week!!!

Louis Marzullo

Dawn, assuming you've moved on from the Top Gun comment thread, thought I'd pop in another title here about a fighter pilot: The Great Santini. Better movie, story, characters & lead actor, whom you'll recognize.

Bartleby

“The Wild Bunch” for your next non Clint, non Wayne western!!!

john ruddick

Yes I think it would be a good one to do next as a western and then birch cassidy. After that the more modern ones like Young Guns and 310 to Yuma although the original is great too and open range (I gave her a copy so that's no issue.

john ruddick

So lots of swearing Thursday and Saturday lol. Have fun with that editing. 🤔

Louis Marzullo

Young Guns? Never saw but... Brat Pack Western? Wait, I take it back. As long as Judd Nelson's not in it

john ruddick

You know I don't think I've ever seen Once upon a time in the west. I may have but I don't remember it. The quick and the dead should probably be there too as a pulp western and I do like Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight.

john ruddick

I'd love to see Dawn's reaction to Yojimbo after watching the Clint version. And the seven samurai.

David Strong

I hope that's Hitchcock film. It was released in 3D & the only thing that was way off the screen into the audience was the telephone ☎️ for one scene. Forgot who was calling...

john ruddick

My favourite jet based movie is called Flight of the intruder " Not as well known but still very cool and a true story.

john ruddick

I checked which movie it was and definitely haven't seen it. I will try to wait until Dawn watches it then I can watch with her lol

Bartleby

Young Guns is singularly responsible for resurrecting the western genre after it had been dead for years. No Young Guns, no Tombstone, 3:10 to Yuma, or Quick and the Dead. Brat pack western is a fair enough description, but the actual plot of the film is among the more faithful and accurate westerns to the depictions of the historical events it’s showing.

john ruddick

Yeah young guns is a special moment in film history really a super cast and a banging soundtrack especially for the second one.

Bartleby

@John You got to watch “Once Upon a Time in the West” It’s considered by many to be the director’s best film, even more so than the Dollars trilogy. And yes, Dawn needs to see the classics of Akira Kurosawa that influenced so many western films.

Bill W

Dawn, I'm going to request/suggest some music-themed movies... The Commitments (1991) The Blues Brothers (1980) School Of Rock (2003) Honkytonk Man (1982) True Stories (1986) Purple Rain (1984) Ray (2004) Walk The Line (2005) Cadillac Records (2008) Crossroads (1986) This Is Spinal Tap (1984) O Brother Where Art Thou? (2000)

Chicago Artist Jon

The film was originally titled South Park: All Hell Breaks Loose, but was changed when the MPAA objected to the use of the word hell. The MPAA didn’t get the joke and approved the title.

Simon

Omgomgomgomg...i can't wait for Southpark. She's going to bust a gut

JD

Good looking week ahead. Thanks

JL Green

I am so excited to see your take on Deadwood. I consider it one of the greatest western television series ever.

Ragnar Miersch

Was feeling a little down, life stuff you know. Then I hit my Fav Patreon and find that DM is covering freakin' DEADWOOD. Only one of the top TV series ever produced. Now I'm rejuvenated and feeling 20 years younger! I didn't even know it was on her radar. Thinking about saving them up and binging them one season at a time. God Bless, Dawn Marie. What would I do without her.

Louis Marzullo

Honest question: Why does Young Guns deserve such a lofty accolade as "resurrecting the Western" as opposed to say, Silverado, which was released 3 years earlier & had a similar (albeit older) ensemble cast? Fair to say "No Silverado, no Young Guns"? (FWIW, I did see Silverado in the theater & liked it)

Louis Marzullo

I could have written this post myself! (except the 20 years younger part. Gonna take a little more than that! 😄)

Bartleby

And Clint Eastwood’s Pale Rider also came out three years earlier. As good or as well made Silverado and Pale Rider may have been, they came nowhere near generating the buzz and excitement that Young Guns did. Silverado was basically a familiar style western like so many others before it. It has a Magnificent Seven kind of tone or westerns of that era. Adventure and fun. As was Pale Rider that felt very old fashioned in its homage to Shane. I assure you Young Guns was not inspired by Silverado LOL. Young Guns feels nothing like that and takes no inspiration from it. Young Guns is the western that created a buzz and became a cultural phenomenon that introduced a new generation to the genre. Silverado did not do this, no matter how much you and everyone else in the theater may have enjoyed it at the time, it did not have anywhere near the impact Young Guns did. Young Guns reinvigorated the western genre in a way it hadn’t been in decades. Now a part of the success had something to do with the hot young actors in the film. Though only two actors in Young Guns ever appeared in any brat pack or John Hughes movies, Emilio Estevez and Charlie Sheen. Young Guns brought something fresh to the table that would influence many of the westerns that came after it.

Bill W

Louis. I saw one of them on regular tv one Saturday afternoon years ago. I don't remember which one. 😀

Eric Janssen

Well, that, and our being "behind" a shelf of bottles during a conversation. I assume you watched the 3D Blu-ray too?

Patrick Dillon

Season 1 and 2 of Deadwood is my favorite TV series EVER, next to "Band of Brothers" of course. Very looking forward to this reaction!
