That's us getting back on track so we need some movie suggestions for next weeks poll. Anyone that joined us for the Quiz Night will remember that our Patron member DavidRoel won second place 🥈 and so got to choose the theme for the poll! The theme will be 'Suspense Movies' and he has suggested a couple movies to add: Notorious (1946), Double Indemnity (1944), The Conversation (1974) and Requiem for a Dream (2000). Let me know other suspense movies in the comments and I'll get the poll out in a few days 😊

Comments

Zack Gallardo

Omg requiem is going to be a hard watch Dawn. 😔

GomezAddams

Nichole Kidman gives a stellar performance in The Others.

Louis Marzullo

Deliverance, Marathon Man, No Country For Old Men, Zodiac, Run Lola Run, Dog Day Afternoon, Eastern Promises... God, there's so many! 😵‍💫 We'll need "Best in Show" & "Blues Bros" for relief!

Jimmy Walker

The game form 1997, any of Hitchcock's movies, The postman ring twice (1946), Night of the Hunter (1955), and Cape Fear (1962)

Bartleby

“Memento” (2000) “Oldboy” (2003) “Cape Fear” (1991)

Wreath35

Shutter Island The Others Oldboy

Allen Bond

North Sea Hijack (1980) The Fury (1978)

Elliot Nesterman

"Charade" (1963). Directed by Stanley Donen and starring Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn, it has been called "the best Hitchcock movie Hitchcock never made."

Zinphad

Sleuth (1972) Full version on Youtube due to rights dispute, so there should be no challenges. Sexy Beast (2000) Frailty (2001)

Louis Marzullo

Glad you're back, hope everything is copacetic ☺️

Robert Jewell

I'm all for NOTORIOUS (1946), my personal favourite Hitchcock film.

Patrick Crippen

Mr. Brooks with Kevin Costner and Demi Moore

Bill W

Arlington Road (1999) The Prestige (2006) Inside Man (2006) Sicario (2015)

Greg Kipp

Wow, suspense can definitely cross genres. If I would choose classic suspense, I submit: 1. The French Connection, starring Gene Hackman 2. Chinatown, starring Jack Nicholson

Chicago Artist Jon

The Invisible Man - 2020 Get Out - 2017 Misery - 1990 Psycho - 1960

Celeste McAllister

'Dirty Harry' 1970 'Jackie Brown' 1997. 'Signs' 2000 'Bullit' 1969 'Sling blade' 1996 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' 2011 'The Wrong Man' 1962 (Hitchcock) hope this helps you out, Dawn🌹

Robert Sackrider

Misery-1990 Straw Dogs-1971 Blue Velvet-1986

Robert Nelson

Anything by Hitchcock, except 39 Stairs. (Or is it 39 Steps? I only remember it being the only Hitchcock that I didn't like.)

DracJeriba

Memories of Murder (2003)

Toc

I freaking LOVE The Conversation, and I'd be happy to see a reaction for Notorious or Double Indemnity, both are classics. (All three are classics!) I'm sure none will win the poll, lol. (Requiem For A Dream is also really good.)

Nathan Wolff

The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956), it stars Jimmy Stewart and was directed by Alfred Hitchcock.

Nathan Wolff

Another suggestion would be Ransom (1996) it stars Mel Gibson and was directed by Ron Howard.

Louis Marzullo

Chinatown my fave non-Godfather film, was saving it for noir/crime drama poll but what the hell, works for suspense too!

Louis Marzullo

It was a very provocative reaction. However, she could still do The Net, with that girl from the bus 😁

David Strong

The Taking of Pelham one Two Three (1974) - Walter Matthau, Robert Shaw, Jerry Stiller - thieves kidnap a subway car in NYC, very intense, taut dialogue w/some humor/humour. Satisfaction guaranteed.

Zack Gallardo

Man on fire if you haven't done that one already.

Zack Gallardo

I just reread the post. Thought those WERE the picks. Suspenseful probably describes the movie better than anything else but its not a typical "SUSPENSE" film.

Edward Olson

Without knowing if Dawn has seen any before: Sixth Sense, The Game, Arrival, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (original Swedish version ONLY plus its two sequels later), Minority Report, Unbreakable, The Village, Butterfly Effect, Identity... the original Das Boot... I could go on and on

Duke Pootentooter

Lots of good suggestions so far, but here are a few not mentioned yet: Bound (1996) Dead Calm (1989) Prisoners (2013)

JD

Night of the hunter 1955.

Celeste McAllister

I focus on the movies that haven't been reacted to over and over again..For Sandra Bullock, save 'Practical Majic' for October..

Craig Russell

the man with one red shoe 1985 gaslight 1944 blowout 1981 split 2016 the talented mr ripley 1999 damaged 2024 (streaming to rent or buy on apple, prime and fandango, also, it's filmed in Scotland) the beekeeper 2024 (on prime and mgm+) wicked little letters 2023 (this was a blast!!)

Louis Marzullo

Mmm, I'd go with "harrowing", "emotionally devastating" or "terrifying" before "suspenseful" if I were describing it to someone but we sure agree that Dawn needs to see it at some point!

Darrell Thorpe

One that nobody seems to suggest let alone react to is The Spanish Prisoner from 1997. Directed by David Mamet and starring Campbell Scott, Rebecca Pidgeon, Ricky Jay, Felicity Huffman, Ben Gazarra and Steve Martin (playing against type). It is one of the best movies.

Rob Jones

The butterfly effect or Frequency

Eric Bonham

It's been probably at least 15 years since I've seen it, so I'm not sure if it qualifies as suspense, but I'm going to suggest Charade (1963)

Alan Jones

Charade (1963) with Audrey Hepburn, Cary Grant, Walter Matthau (dir. Stanley Donen) Mirage (1965) with Gregory Peck, Diane Baker, Walter Matthau (dir. Edward Dmytryk) Two strong contenders for the best "Hitchcock" films that Alfred Hitchcock never made. BTW, I put your football shirt design in a Patroen direct message to you last Sunday, in case you were wondering.

Matt O'Keefe

Requiem For A Dream is a great movie, but it is a tough movie for me personally (from my personal experience-not saying anything else) as I am sure it is for others.

proVaxxer

The Prestige Memento Frailty Take Shelter Wind River Signs Misery Sixth Sense A Simple Plan

Echo

Are thrillers suspense? If so- The Game with Michael Douglas. So freakin' good. If not, then put that on your thriller list, lol.

Echo

I agree with Sixth Sense and Misery but wasn't sure on genre. +1 on those.

Echo

ALSO! Falling Down with Michael Douglas, lol. Definitely suspense. The characters are so so different in these two movies but they are both *so* good.

Louis Marzullo

Mystic River, In The Line Of Fire (from Under The Bed!), Z (1969. Yep, that's the title. Just the letter "Z"), Captain Phillips, Red Rock West, Dressed to Kill (1980, Michael Caine), Eyes Wide Shut, Body Double

JD

It got me thinking... in cold blood '67?... and to kill a mockingbird... but maybe belong in a separate category.

JD

Badlands

Ragnar Miersch

Since True Romance went over so well, why not try Woody Harrelson in "Natural Born Killers." Sort of a similar tone.

Bartleby

Natural Born Killers is the sister film to True Romance. I elaborated in a comment on the post for the full reaction

Patrick Dillon

Insomnia - Bleak murder plot set in small Alaska town. Starring Al Pacino and Robin Williams (in a terrific non-comedy role).

Mannygogou

Gone Girl (2014) - Fincher Basic Instinct (1992) - Verhoeven The Big Sleep (1946) - Hawks Equilibrium (2002) - Wimmer Sucker Punch (2011) - Snyder

Mannygogou

also to repeat others' suggestions, The Thing From Another World (1951) - Hawks Bound (1996) - Wachowskis Blue Velvet (1986) - Lynch The Butterfly Effect (2004) - Kutcher Natural Born Killers (1994) - Stone The Invisible Man (2020) Cape Fear (1991) - remake - Scorsese Run Lola Run (1998) Lucy (2014) - Besson

karey_island

Sudden Fear (1952) The Innocents (1961) Strait-Jacket (1963)

Toc

Oh man, In Cold Blood is great. (so is Mockingbird). Fantastic book too. That's a great adaptation though, one of the best ever.

Harry S

The Glass House 2001

Toc

They both came after "Wild At Heart" (and another "sister" film is "Kalifornia" They all came out at the same time, and sort of canceled each other out) . "Badlands", "Thieves Like Us", and "The Sugarland Express" are their "aunts and uncles" from the 70s. "Bonnie And Clyde" is the mother of 'em all. (And the father would be lots of "love on the run" film noirs from the late 40s and 50s)

Harry S

When a Stranger Calls 1979 Fright 1971

Ted Little

Foreign Correspondent (1940), To Have and to Have Not (1944), and Key Largo (1948) are all excellent.

Louis Marzullo

Wild at Heart. I remember sitting in the theater thinking "Well, it's David Lynch. I knew what I was getting myself into" 😂 B & C one of my top ten all-time, any genre. Beatty & Dunaway in the running for best-looking screen couple ever.

Corman Rockwell

Straw Dogs would be my pick. I was trying to read the source material "The Siege of Trencher's Farm" but it's not great

Bartleby

@Tic Toc Melody Clearly Tarantino is a fan of Badlands and the outlaw lovers on the run archetype. We even got a whiff of that in Pulp Fiction with Tim Roth’s character and his gf in the film. Brad Pitt was originally offered the role of Clarence for True Romance. Pitt declined because he didn’t get the particular tone and vision of the film just from the script and also because he felt it was too similar to Kalifornia which he had just done. Originally Natural Born Killers was a script that Clarence was writing in the film True Romance. This element was excised due to length and instead developed as a full script on its own by Tarantino. Which of course was then purchased by Oliver Stone’s company.

Jonathan Leak

How about Split (2016) or The Menu (2022)

David Harvey

"The Sixth Sense" - 1999 "Wait Until Dark" - 1967

DracJeriba

Das Boot (Director's Cut; 1981)

GomezAddams

Rope is an excellent suspends movie by some Alfred guy.

Korny

Double Indemnity and Rope would get my votes.
