As the title suggests, the next poll will be for movies based on true stories! So, fire away in the comments some movie suggestions related to that and I'll get a poll out for it later this week 😁

Celeste McAllister

'Bonnie & Clyde' 1967⭐⭐⭐⭐ 'Zulu' 1964⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 'The Oxbow Incident' 195?⭐⭐⭐⭐ 'Lawrence of Arabia' 196? ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Chris

I had one, and then saw the other suggestions, and changed mine to Hidden Figures.

Bartleby

“Donnie Brasco” (1997) “Born on the Fourth of July” (1989) “La Bamba” (1987) “The Social Network” (2010) “The Doors” (1991) “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” (1998) “Blow” (2001) “The Elephant Man” (1980) “JFK” directors cut (1991)

Korny

The Big Short about the financial crisis of the late 2000’s.

Robert Nelson

I saw "Bonnie & Clyde" suggested. I propose "The Highwaymen". It is from the point of view of the lawmen who tracked them. Starring Woody Harrelson (who did a good job) and Kevin Costner. The movie "Bonnie & Clyde" makes them into heroes, which is repulsive to me. To be fair, "Bonnie & Clyde" won at least one Oscar.

Robert Nelson

Lawrence of Arabia! I second, third and fourth that suggestion.

David Simon

Citizen Kane, Downfall (der Untergang), Spartacus, Empire of the Sun, Capote. Titanic. Judy

Robert Nelson

The Killing Fields. It's about the Khmer Rouge. Excellent film. Saw it in the theater - mind blowing.

Jimmy Walker

Taking Chance and Longest Day

Robert Nelson

Star Wars. What? You don't know what's happening or not happening in a galaxy far, far away. It COULD be true!

AkiraScroll

Deep Water Horizon is so good. About the worst oil incident ever recorded.

Jon Anderson

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. It even says, most of it is true!

Louis Marzullo

Gandhi, Zodiac, Bonnie & Clyde, Serpico, Schindler's List, JFK, All the President's Men, In Cold Blood, My Left Foot, Malcolm X, Coal Miner's Daughter, The Buddy Holly Story, Master & Commander: Far Side of the World, Papillon (1973), Dog Day Afternoon, The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928)

Jacobus Dixon

“Girl, Interrupted” “The Last Emperor” “The Quiet American” “Experimenter” “Till” “Judas and the Black Messiah” “Oppenheimer”

DracJeriba

I, Tonya (2018) Argo (2012)

Gene Hendricks

Gettysburg, (1993) The Longest Day (1962), The Alamo (1960), but my top pick is Tora, Tora, Tora (1970).

Grinznmore

The Miracle Worker (1962) Director Arthur Pen, Anne Bancroft and Patty Duke. The Elephant Man (1980) Director David Lynch Anthony Hopkins, John Hurt, and Anne Bancroft. The Right Stuff (1983) Director Phillip Kaufman Sam Shepard, Scott Glenn, Ed Harris Dennis Quaid, Fred Ward, Barbara Hershey

Duke Pootentooter

You might want to categorize by subject matter so the final poll has a wide variety to choose from. I haven't seen these suggestions yet. War Defiance The Great Escape Crime The Trial of the Chicago 7 Compliance Science The Imitation Game The Theory of Everything Sports King Richard Ford v Ferrari (aka Le Mans '66) A League of Their Own Moneyball Other The Revenant The Favourite Society of the Snow Amadeus

Happy Hanukkah

Bloodsport (1988), of course! It is practically a documentary of an episode in the life of Frank Dux. :-P , but I do indeed recommend it. For a more reality-based kinda- martial arts movie, there's the enjoyable biopic Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story (1993).

Bartleby

I’d recommend Dawn actually watch a Bruce Lee movie before watching that biopic. Probably “Enter the Dragon” But yes that is a phenomenal film! I’d love for Dawn and more reactors to watch it.

Happy Hanukkah

If we must be serious, and in honour of the upcoming Olympic Games, I nominate the multiple Oscar (and BAFTA) winner Chariots of Fire (1981).

Mike McLaughlin

Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942) Dir: Michael Curtiz James Cagney (Best Actor Oscar), John Houston. Story about George M. Cohen. PT-109 (1962) Dir: Leslie Martinson Cliff Robertson, Robert Culp Story of John F. Kennedy's heroism in WWII. To Hell And Back (1955) Dir: Jesse Hibbs Audie Murphy The story of the most decorated U.S. soldier of WWII, Audie Murphy. Audie Murphy plays himself in this biography. Brian's Song (1971) Dir: Buzz Kulik James Caan, Billy Dee Williams. The story of Brian Piccolo, a professional football running back who played for the Chicago Bears. His relationship with another Bears running back, Gale Sayers.

Bill W

SPORTS Miracle (2004) Brian's Song (1971) Eight Men Out (1988) A League of Their Own (1992) DRAMA Hotel Rwanda (2004) Schindler's List (1993) Mississippi Burning (1988) JFK (1991) 12 Years a Slave (2013) Basketball Diaries (1995) Tombstone (1993) MUSIC Ray (2004) Cadillac Records (2018) Walk The Line (2005)

Michael

Lawrence of Arabia(1962)

Michael

Great Escape(1963)

Bill W

(FYI- Dawn already reacted to The Untouchables. Also- she has the dvd for Ford v Ferrari, but I think it's under the European title Le Mans "66)

JL Green

The Perfect Storm. A whole latta liberties taken but one helluva movie!

Robert Inman

Add Sergeant York (1941) with Gary Cooper to the list.

John Lawton

The Great Raid (2005) was the first film to come to mind for me, but boy the patrons here reminded me of so many others (though a few aren’t actually true stories or are loosely based on true events.) I’d say Lawrence of Arabia would have to be top of the list of “must see” classics regardless of category. A truly great film.

Bartleby

I would just like to clarify for Dawn that the smiley face is because Fargo claimed to be based on a true story, but actually was completely fictional. Sorry James. I like the idea of the poll too much to let the well be poisoned by a goof.

David Harvey

Apollo 13 The Great Escape Tombstone Walk the Line Mindhunter (series) Hidden Figures Red Dog (award winning Australian Film) Seabiscuit Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid A League of Their Own

David Strong

Please avoid Titanic. It did sink but nobody knows what happened on board before it sank, do they?

Chicago Artist Jon

Ali. Not well reviewed but I liked it. The Boys in the Boat. Haven’t seen it but the book was awesome. All of Star Trek. Actual events that just haven’t happened yet.

JL Green

42 (Chadwick Boseman) Marshall (also Chadwick Boseman), and finally Veronica Guerin (Cate Blanchett).

John Lawton

Have to also mention True Stories (1986), none of which are actually true! (As far as we know…)

Ragnar Miersch

I'll second Bonnie and Clyde, Tombstone and Butch and Sundance. And let's not forget we're still waiting for John Wick 4, because nobody can make that stuff up.

Bill W

Seems to me revealing that is a spoiler. We could have just not voted for it if it was included in the poll.

Bill W

Except for the psychic lady who was born with a tail, wrote "Billie Jean" and dated Burt Reynolds. That was all true. 😀 I'd love for Dawn to watch that. It's like the Coen Brothers directed a feature length Talking Heads video, and the Napoleon Dynamite creator was the location scout.

Duke Pootentooter

Good catch on the The Untouchables - I skipped right over that. I'll replace it with a lesser known film, which I simultaneously couldn't believe is based on a true story and also could totally believe is based on a true story.

Bill W

Defiance or Compliance...make up your mind!!! 🤣🤣🤣

David H

Any chess fans out there for Searching For Bobby Fischer (1993)?

Simon

Stand and Deliver with Edward James Olmos and Lou Diamond Philips. Great school teacher movie. The Great Escape with... All the people. Best movie ever.

Simon

Oh, and if you haven't seen it, Bohemian Rhapsody. Editing the music might suck 🤣

Bill W

Seems like anything in or near Boston, NYC, Philly... he's contractually offered a role.

Bartleby

“Rush” (2013) I just remembered this one Dawn Marie!! This is an phenomenal film based on an extraordinary true story that if it wasn’t real life, you’d say That would never happen in real life, that’s unbelievable! This is an incredible film Dawn Marie!!

Bartleby

Titanic is historical fiction. It doesn’t claim to be a true story. It’s a fictional story based around a historical event. But yeah I think I saw someone recommend that below. Not an appropriate title for this poll.

Bartleby

A spoiler of what? What would that possibly spoil about the plot? And you know people would have still voted for it. Just because it’s a popular movie to react to.

james flack

I met Jim Brown at my Letterman's Dinner in either '65 or '66, where he was a guest speaker........😎

Eric Janssen

For true sports, I’ll second Miracle (2004), about the Us Olympic hockey team, and “Eight Men Out”, (1988), about how Shoeless Joe Jackson was banned from baseball (assuming you haven’t seen “Field of Dreams” yet) as two of the best yet made— But if you want news-scandal stories, “Reversal of Fortune” provides an interesting true-crime spin on Klaus Von Bulow’s high-profile murder trial. And “Zero Dark Thirty” didn’t start planning to be about how Seal Team 6 hunted down Bin Laden, but things fortuitously worked out that way.

Carl Evans

All the President's Men (1976) won 4 Academy Awards, stars Dustin Hoffman and Robert Redford.

Tommy Ivison

Audie Murphy autobiography To Hell and Back. America's greatest WW2 hero

james flack

How about "Braveh 🤷‍♂️.......Oh, never mind.....Let's go with "Rob Roy" (1995)?

Alan Jones

That's a massively long list of ideas to cull through. Good luck on that. I'll just add two ideas, which I don't recall seeing yet: Amistad (1997), with Anthony Hopkins as former President John Quincy Adams defending a group of slaves who fought free of a slave trader ship, and whose fate is in the hands of the court. The Wrong Man (1956), dir. Alfred Hitchcock, starring Henry Fonda as a musician falsely accused of a robbery, examining the impact the case had on his family. Not really one of Hitchcock's best, but fascinating in its way, and featuring a stunningly chilling performance by Vera Miles as the man's wife who suffers an emotional breakdown because of the troubles.

Mike McLaughlin

after reading quite a few of the suggestions, it appears that there are a great number of biographical movies that are good to great.. Suggest grouping into 4 categories Sports Geo-political Action/Adventure Entertainment If you ended up running poles for each category and decided to show the top 4 in each category. you could extend these to 4 months @ 1 movie per week. These are all great movies that people can learn from and enjoy. Run the poles 1 each month. Then off to the movies.

Craig Russell

Ride Like a Girl 2019 8 Seconds 1994 13 Hours The Secret Soldiers Of Benghazi 2016 Away and Back 2015 The Monuments Men 2014 The Audrey Hepburn Story 2000 The Glenn Miller Story 1954 The Benny Goodman Story 1956 and Underworld 2003 (J/K!!!!)

Elliot Nesterman

"Battleship Potemkin" (1925) directed by Sergei Eisenstein. Widely considered one of the greatest films of all time, and arguably Eisenstein's masterpiece, it's influence is still seen in films made today. It is a dramatization of a mutiny in 1905 when the crew of the Potemkin rebelled against its officers.

JL Green

Hey Dawn, just one more entry from me, Lady Sings The Blues.

John Lawton

According to IMDB, yes! In fact parts were filmed at the actual locations involved.

Bill W

It doesn't spoil the plot, but we're meant to go in thinking it's based on true events to increase the level of interest. To know it's not takes it down a notch.

JVTrickypants

I'm sure it's been mentioned (or you've already watched it), but Schindler's List is a must see...not just because of the horrors of the Holocaust, but also an absolutely brilliantly made movie.

JVTrickypants

Oh man, YES!!! Using the trial transcripts word for word with the best actor ever, Spencer Tracy, and also another great actor, Fredric March. "Do you think about the things you DO think about???"

JVTrickypants

Also I may have missed it, but another TRUE STORY that would be great to see continued is Deadwood. It's why I joined Patreon because nobody has done that show and you were killing it. Just curious.

Bill W

Love Rob Roy.... wonderful cast, top tier performances...gorgeous cinematography.

tkitez

Fire in the Sky is allegedly a true story.

Wreath35

All that have mentioned here are very good. One it's "Blackkklansman (with Adam Driver and John David Washington). 2018." With some differences in the movie, but it's a real story

James UK

So many to chose from. Here’s just a few, in no particular order: Rush Thirteen Days The Great Escape Chariots of Fire The Imitation Game Miracle Battle of Britain Invictus

Ted Little

"One Foot in Heaven" 1941.

Richard Stokes

I've got The Castle (1997) (Australian film) Excalibur (1981). The second choice 'based on a true story' credentials does kind of depends on Arthur having been a real king lost to the dark ages and not a just a myth but still it's quite an atmospheric film so what the hell!

Richard Stokes

Sort of related to this I saw a really good real life documentary in the Storyville series that was on BBC iplayer. It's called 'The Gullspang Miracle'. It's a real life mystery that you think is one puzzle until at the end your given all the pieces and its something totally different.

james flack

After much deliberation, I have decided that Dawn should watch,........(Drum roll, please)........"Rabbit Proof Fence". Suggestions are now officially closed!!! 🤥

Bartleby

Now you know Excalibur doesn’t count as being based on a true story! Come on now. 😆

Bartleby

There are other reaction channels that have watched Deadwood. But yes, it’ll be great when Dawn returns to the series.

Jeff Barnes

The Great Escape (1963) Good time of year for a war movie-June 6 All the President's Men (1976) This one might not be fully relatable by folks outside the US, but it will suck you into it.

Bartleby

That being said, Dawn Marie should 100% watch Excalibur!! Without question the best dramatization of the King Arthur story. I heard someone describe it as Game of Thrones before Game of Thrones was Game of Thrones. Maybe watch it as a double feature with the animated film “The Sword in the Stone” You’d grow up real fast in between movies watching that double feature LOL

Jonathan Leak

Erin Brockovich 2000 (Julia Roberts)

Jonathan Leak

House of Gucci 2021 (Adam Driver/ Lady Gaga)

James Fleischman

Awakenings (1990) Robert De Niro & Robin Williams

Jimmy Walker

1988 Mississippi burning for the history lesson

JL Green

Ha ha 😂 One more based on movie staring Pierce Brosnon, "Evelyn."

james flack

"Invincible" (2006) with Mark Wahlberg....American Football. 🤔

Alvin Helms

Tombstone (1993, Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer) · Based on true events, with some creative liberties taken to make it more awesome. One of the best Western movies ever.

Corman Rockwell

The St Valentine's Day Massacre [1967] Directed by Roger Corman

james flack

"The Life and Times of Judge........................" Only a partial title, mainly because it's only partially true!!! 🧐

james flack

Louis, are you trying to tell me that JR's sister-in-law is your Lily Langtry?........P.S. Mine too! 😊

james flack

Bill, think of Seinfeld's nemesis, not Elaine's close talking boyfriend....🤦‍♂️

Richard Stokes

One more I have 'The Way Back' (2010). 4 men escape the gulags in Siberia then have to walk 4000 miles to safety. It's set during WW2.

Toc

- Bonnie And Clyde - Dog Day Afternoon - The Right Stuff - The River's Edge - I Love You To Death - Raging Bull

Toc

He must have meant to write "The Right Stuff", right Lou? 😂

john ruddick

Agreed I did an entire thesis on that movie. The truth is it was far more violent in reality then the movie suggests.

john ruddick

"Dog Day Afternoon" a great true story about a botched bank robbery staring Robert De Nero.

john ruddick

Or "The longest day". A great WW2 movie about D-day.

john ruddick

Or "Moneyball" staring Brad Pit a film about baseball.

john ruddick

Or "A league of their own" staring Madonna another film about baseball set during WW2 about the first female baseball league.

Louis Marzullo

Um, John... that was Al Pacino. And you've also got a wee spoiler in there. Double ouch. 😖

Richard Stokes

Yes they had to get out of Russia somewhere safe outside the communist zone but I don't want to spoil the plot beyond that. It was on netflix for awhile might still be there

Corman Rockwell

John Milius wrote the screenplay. and wanted to direct, but it was given to John Huston and Milius was less than pleased with the results

Toc

- Bonnie And Clyde - Dog Day Afternoon - The Right Stuff - The River's Edge - I Love You To Death - Raging Bull 😉😄

james flack

Perfect movie for today, (D-Day)........"The Man Who Never Was" (1956)......not sure if it is a true story, but it ought to be! 🙏😥

Duke Pootentooter

It is based on a true story. A 2nd version of the same story was made in 2021 called "Operation Mincemeat". The newer version concentrates more on the characters involved, while the older one focuses more on the details of the procedure. I prefer the older version, as I think that style is a better fit for the story being told, but both are worth watching. It's a pretty clever idea.

Harry S

Spartacus (1960) Kirk Douglas El Cid (1961) Charlton Heston and Sophia Loren. Cleopatra (1963) Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Rex Harrison, Roddy McDowall, and Martin Landau.

Louis Marzullo

Yes! Dawn will like her, really like her! 😄 (only took me, what, 3 days to think up that one?)

Yorkshire Shaft

True story of "Operation Daybreak" or the modern Hollywood version "anthropoid" . Imo operation daybreak is the better version. Legend with Tom Hardy about the Kray twins is very good.

hogweed

british film 10 rillington place 1971 true story of seriel killer john christie starring Richard Attenborough/john hurt

Carol Rocha

THE IMPOSSIBLE - a phenomenal true story movie about the 2004 tsunami in Asia, Thailand, India, & Shre Lanka. The worst in recorded history. A must see.

Carol Rocha

WINDTALKERS - true story of how the Navajo nation’s unique language was used as code and the Navajo code talkers (soldiers) who used it in WWII against the Japanese. Nicolas Cage, Mark Ruffalo, Adam Beacher, Noah Emmerich & Christian Slater.

Carol Rocha

SECRETARIAT- the exciting true story of the racing horse that God built! Still considered the greatest race horse that ever lived. Diane Lane, John Malkovich.

Bernie Zwicky

The Blind Side- The inspiring true story of Michael Oher…a boy who went from being homeless and impoverished to being a professional NFL football player. The movie, which stars Sandra Bullock, is a heartwarming and entertaining film that is a perfect combination of action, warmth, and humor. I’m sure your subscribers would love it!!

zynjams

Wyatt Earp starring Kevin Costner

zynjams

Jeff Forbes

Wolf of Wall Street, perfect storm, la bamba.
