Since I'm not American or a huge sports fan, I don't really know much about baseball. So once again, I'm needing your help! If anyone can suggest banging baseball movies down below in the comments, then I'll get a poll out tomorrow for you all to vote on!

Field of Dreams. The Sandlot. Major League

Echo

A League of Their Own & everyone will say Field of Dreams, but that movie isn’t about baseball.

Red

Mayor League is banging and has an incredible cast

Rob Stanley

Field of Dreams/Bull Durham/For the love of the game is the classic Kevin Costner set

Gene Hendricks

A League of Their Own for a drama based on history. The Natural for a drama based on a novel. Major League for a great comedy.

THK

Moneyball

Paul Newman

Field of Dreams or Moneyball

Andreas Mayr

42 While it's as much about the historical background in pre civil-rights US it's also a lot about baseball and the spirit of the game for the people around it. Based on a true story and afaik it stays pretty close to the original. Also excellent performances by Chadwick Boseman, Harrison Ford and Alan Tudyk.

Bill W

Bull Durham Field of Dreams Eight Men Out The Sandlot A League of Their Own Little Big League

David Zabel

Major League and A League Of Their Own!

Darrell Palmer

"A league of Their Own" and "Field of Dreams" are my favorites.

RX2904

Gotta start with BAD NEWS BEARS. No baseball knowledge necessary.

Grinznmore

Field of Dreams, Sandlot

Ken Ream

A League of Their Own!

tkitez

Everybody Wants Some!!, Bang the Drum Slowly, The Bad News Bears, The Fan.

Brian O'Grady

Pride of the Yankees. It’s about Lou Gehrig, and Babe Ruth plays himself. It’s a good black & white. League of Their Own. Bull Durham. The Bad News Bears. The 1976 original, not the remake.

VM Kane

Field of dreams and The natural. Neither are really about baseball except as a mystical allegory for life in general. I don't know a thing about the game and it didn't spoil my enjoyment of either.

Patrick Crippen

If you don't know anything about baseball I'd start with "A league of their own". It's based on real events, and explains the game fairly well.

Patrick Crippen

Eight Men Out, also based on real events and would really set you up to understand and enjoy Field of Dreams better. I'd love to see a combo reaction of Eight Men Out then Field of Dreams, nobody has done that before. It would probably be very successful

James UK

A League of their Own Field of Dreams Bull Durham For Love of the Game Major League

John W Foster

Also, Bad News Bears (the original), The Sandlot, Field of Dreams, the Natural and Major League.

Harry S

The Stratton Story 1949 with James Stewart a true story

David Harvey

"A League of Their Own" is a based on a true story. It's a fantastic funny and heart warming story. You'll love it!

dieselbeast

Angels in the outfield and the sandlot!!!

Robert Jewell

Start with THE SANDLOT (1993) then do A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN (1092), one a kids perspective, the other a unique true story history perspective.

Louis Marzullo

The Bad News Bears (1976), Pride of the Yankees, Eight Men Out, Bang the Drum Slowly, 42

Calico Jack

"The Sandlot" The 1976 "Bad News Bears"

Alan Jones

Many good baseball films have been mentioned already. Let me re-emphasize: Bull Durham That's my hometown favorite, as I live in Durham, NC, home of the real-life Durham Bulls. The film features a fictionalized version of the real-life team, with home games filmed on location at the old, quaint, delapidated Durham Athletic Park (aka, the DAP), which at the time of filming was the Bulls' home field IRL. At that time, they were a 1A minor league team, i.e., bottom of the barrel in the professional major-minor league system, belonging to the Atlanta Braves. After the influx of cash and publiclity generated by the film, the Bulls management were able to have a brand new modern baseball park built (the Durham Bulls Athlethic Park, or DBAP), and upgrade its standing to AAA (top of the minors). The team is now affiiiated with Tampa Bay. The old park, the DAP, is still there, but it is much less used than it was. It still looks quaint, where the new one looks like every other major-minor league park in the country. Oh, well. Views of downtown Durham show up in the film too, with the old-fashioned brick tobacco warehouses that have since been either torn down or converted to other commercial or residential use.

Bill W

Yeah, everone does FOD, no one ever does EMO. I think you can watch them in either order.

Jeff Barnes

A League of Their Own Bad News Bears (1976)

JL Green

I'm late to the post so I'm in agreement with all the suggestions. My personal favorites include Bull Durham, 42, and Field Of Dreams.

Jeff Forbes

Another vote for a league of their own and the bad news bears.

Louis Marzullo

Dawn, maybe you can watch an episode or two of Ken Burns' "Baseball" documentary mini-series to familiarize yourself with the game & its significance in American culture. ⚾

Manny

The Sand Lot.....don't bother with sequels to it cuz they SUCK. But the first one is brilliant.

Jimmy C

A League of their own Field of dreams

Robert Dannhauser

Dawn, here are two that you don't need to know much at all about baseball to enjoy: Field of Dreams and A League of Their Own.

Patrick Crippen

Watching EMO first would just give her reference of how everything led up to events in FOD is what I was meaning 👍

Mike McLaughlin

Fear Strikes Out - the story of major league player Jimmy Piersall. Pride Of The Yankees - story of Yankee great, Lou Gehrig. Your favorite, Walter Brennen (Stumpy) co-stars. The Winning Team - the story of Hall Of Fame pitcher Grover Cleveland Alexander. The Pride Of Saint Louis - Story of Hall Of Fame pitcher Dizzy Dean Damn Yankees - a fun fictional story of a fan that m!he's a deal with the devil to become a baseball hero on his losing team. This is just a short list of older movies that most of your younger fans have no idea exist. The one that others have mentioned is Field Of Dreams.

Mike McLaughlin

Instead of 42, how about The Jackie Robinson Story. Jackie played himself in this movie of his life.

Philip Cook

Hi Dawn, My favorite baseball movie is The Natural from 1984 starring Robert Redford, Robert Duvall, Glenn Close, and Kim Basinger . Its theme of redemption captures the essence of a great baseball movie. I remember going to see this movie with my sister when we were both much younger. It was one of the few movies that we both loved.

Robert Nelson

All of these must be seen. Add Bad News Bears and 42, we've got another week of movies.

Celeste McAllister

'The Sandlot' 'Major League' 'Bull Durham' 'Moneyball' 'Fear Strikes Out' 'The Pride of the Yankees'⭐⭐⭐⭐

Elliot Nesterman

Field of Dreams (Drama with Kevin Costner, James Earl Jones, and Amy Madigan) The Sandlot (the Summer counterpart to A Christmas Story) Pride of the Yankees (based on the true story of Lou Gehrig, starring Gary Cooper as Gehrig and Babe Ruth as himself) The Babe Ruth Story (fictionalized biopic of the life of the great Babe Ruth. Watch this before The Sandlot) A League of their Own (based on the true story of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, which was formed during WWII) 42 (based on the career of Jackie Robinson, the first black player in the major leagues.) Damn Yankees (Musical, an excellent film adaptation of the Broadway musical, with Ray Walston and Gwen Verdon reprising their Tony-winning roles. There are some great songs.)

james flack

Dawn, a month or so ago, the professional teams, Phillies and the Mets played a baseball game in London. I'm sure you could pull up a BBC copy online and learn all about the rules and strategies of the "Great American Past time" from local announcers of the contest, who would probably ask the same questions as you. (I just love it when Brits say the score is level, instead of tied).....😎

Bob McFadden

Field of Dreams is a must. Bull Durham and Major League are fun. A League of Their Own is touching.

Bernie Zwicky

Field of Dreams is one that I think you would enjoy. A League of Their Own is another great one that you don’t need to be a fan of baseball to enjoy ❤️

Bill W

Trivia..Art LaFleur who plays White Sox first baseman Chick Gandil in Field of Dreams plays Babe Ruth's ghost in Sandlot! And James Earl Jones (Terrrence Man) plays Mean Mr. Myrtle!. Dawn hasn't seen Christmas Story yet, as far as we know. I hope she doesn't take that "counterpart" literally, because there actually IS a Summer Story sequel to A Christmas Story.

Ted Little

Nobody else will want them but I would like to suggest two baseball fantasy films: "It Happens Every Spring" (1949) and "Angels in the Outfield" (1951. Don't bother with the remake).

Jinyatta

Bad News Bears. The original, not the remake with Billy Bob Thornton

Tom

Bang the Drum Slowly

Mark Crawford

The Bad News Bears (1976) - crazy to me that, here in the UK, a lot of people (even my age) have never even heard of it, let alone seen it!

zynjams

a league of their own, Bull Durham. the Natural

Carol Rocha

A League of Their Own or Field of Dreams

N M

Jerry McGuire

Johnny

The Natural

Johnny

Major League

Andrew Karr

Field of Dreams is good because while baseball is the anchor of the movie, it’s not really a baseball movie. And you don’t need to understand the sport to enjoy the movie.

Artur Nienartowicz

A league of their own (a nice surprise in the cast), Field of Dreams, Trouble with the Curve (Clint Eastwood directs and stars, also Justin Timberlake). Major League (Charlie Sheen, Tom Berenger) The Natural

Rogue_ML

Field of Dreams, The Natural, Bull Durham, Major League

Edward Olson

No baseball movie is really about baseball. An actual movie about baseball would just be the game without anything else.

Bill W

So, you're saying don't put it on the list? It uses a hell of a lot of baseball to move the story along.

Echo

A League of Their Own is about interpersonal relationships, sure, but it's also unequivocally about baseball. A pretty important piece in the history of baseball in fact.

Echo

The baseball didn't matter. It could have been anything else and still worked for the story.

resinmonkey .

The Natural is my favorite baseball movie, followed by FoD.

Alvin Helms

Mr. Baseball (1992) · starring Tom Selleck as an American player hired to play on a Japanese baseball team. Very funny.

Elliot Nesterman

I had mistakenly said that Holly Hunter was in _Field of Dreams_ and had been corrected. After I edited my comment the fellow who corrected me removed his.

Bill W

True. It doesn't make my top 5 but it is a fun movie and deserves more love.

Alvin Helms

Yeah, there are many more obvious choices, but I've always had a soft spot for Mr. Baseball, so I just wanted to make sure it got mentioned. :D

Louis Marzullo

That was me. I was joking about memory loss, pretending to forget what you thanked me for. ☺️

Moneyball (2011)
