Aww, I feel bad for being a bit distant with this movie. I was more interested in seeing what the doctor was up to rather than the actual war stuff 🤭 Still an awesome movie though!

You want a great sea movie, based on a true story!! “In the Heart of the Sea” (2015) And a great fictional sea movie “All is Lost” (2013)

Eric Janssen

“In the Heart of the Sea” was just a thin excuse to pseudo-remake “Moby Dick” (see, it’s the real-life version, that’s new!), despite the fact that John Huston retired the jersey on the 1956 Gregory Peck version, and kids just remember the 90’s Patrick Stewart TV version.

In the Heart of the Sea is the true story that has every right to be told. Other people don’t get to decide which stories can and can’t be told. I don’t care who you think you are, you don’t get to retire a classic story. That’s ridiculous. It’s a phenomenal film from a fantastic director who Dawn has enjoyed on the channel.

Yes, it’s a good-looking big-ship movie, but there’s just not much There there. The reason it keeps being forced down reactors’ throats is a generation that literally—LITERALLY—has never seen any other Royal Navy movie besides this and the Pirates series. Press one for why they’re so attached, and sooner or later you’ll hear “They’re in the Navy and following orders!…It’s JUST LIKE STAR TREK! 😃” If that’s your criteria, prepare to be blindsided by the 1984 Mel Gibson/Anthony Hopkins “The Bounty”. That mission was a little more….eventful.

Or, if your memory is longer than that, there have been scads of Age of Sail movie and none of them are that great. Far side of the world is by miles the best attempt at realising that environment on film (amd, yeah, Bounty is probably the second-best, and a masterclass in squeezing a complex historical event into feature film format - although it would still have been better as the two films Bolt envisioned or the miniseries which was also considered before Lean dropped out). For those of us who got by on Peck's Hornblower and Carry on Jack for 30 or 40 years, Far side of the world was worth waiting for.

If you are interested to se a movie with a young Russel Crowe I recomend Romper stomper 🙂🙂

I recommend L.A. Confidential. If that doesn't get a B.M.E., I... won't do a damn thing 😄 Btw, today's thumbnail would look lovely in a frame🌻Russell wore his hair Dawn-style!

There is a meditation you can do to block pain. I've done it. There is a made for American TV called "Tribes". It's a great show on its own, and the character Adrian gives the very best instruction that could ever be given on doing it. I HATE running, in the police academy, they ran us 3 miles a day so zi used it.

I was raised on Errol Flynn, Cornel Wilde, Paul Henreid, Douglas Fairbanks Jr. and scores of others making sea sagas. I have also read the entirety of Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey–Maturin series. When I see the collective dissonance of later generations regarding general historical lore it tugs at my heart ever so much. Since no one else has come to Dawn's rescue, I will endeavor to do so. The French ship's captain was posing as the French ship's doctor. The man who handed Jack the sword, which, by the way, was the customary act of surrender, was the French captain. Jack realized this when his doctor mentioned that the French doctor had died three months earlier and fearing a rebellion on board the captured French ship, led by said captain, went in pursuit. Another thing I would like to point out is that this was just one brief adventure in the life of Admiral Autry (yes, he would eventually make the rank) and it is sandwiched in between a dozen or more others. I believe there were plans for subsequent movies based on the expected success of this film but, sadly it was not to be. And for future reference, should I ever have need of a trepanning, I want Nurse Dawn right there holding my hand.

The "Doctor" was actually the French Captain. He assumed the role of Doctor, so as not to surrender.
