Time to stop crying over Firefly and move on to a new series! Something very different with Band of Brothers.

Forget what I just said, I'm still crying over Firefly and now crying over Serenity!!

Our third and final Directors Cut poll winner with Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Will I like it more than The Breakfast Club? 🤔

Can't wait for planes, trains and automobiles. One of my all time favorite comedies. Band of Brothers is great, too.

Roger Freeman

I love Band of Brothers. I've watched it many times

Eric Janssen

PTA is...a lot more LIKABLE than The Breakfast Club, but only because the Club is painfully posturing and pandering to an 80's idea of Cool Angry Teens. John Candy would have improved that movie considerably.

MertzRocks

Yes you will love Band of Brothers too. And still... 😢 Firefly/Serenity CURAHEE!!

Scott

Yes, Miss Dawn...yes. I'm hoping you will finish Band of Brothers as well 😍

Jimmy Walker

Great timing on starting "Band of Brothers"

PTA is a good family christmas film which John Candy brings a lot of heart to, as he often does. Hard to compare with the breakfast club as they are so different. Breakfast Club is similar to a big bottle episode as it mostly takes place in one place and you could see it staged as a play. It's funny and dramatic but it's got an important message at it's heart about people being equal underneath the high school hierarchy of stereotypes and image and more than just those stereotypes ie ' you see us as you want to see us... the jock, the brain...'. always stuck with me that message with Simple Minds played over the top!

JL Green

Hey Dawn. I understand and hear you regarding Serenity, and no matter which cut you chose, I believe you will enjoy Plane's, Trains, and Automobiles more than The Breakfast Club.

Louis Marzullo

Agreed. I found all 5 insufferable. Could not muster empathy for any of them. "My Bodyguard" would have been much better in this slot (hint-hint, D.M.)

Grinznmore

Planes, Trains and Automobiles is one of my top favorites. It should tickle your funny bone.

Michael Hartsell

"Back to the Future" beats the crap out of all of them (80's comedies), I promise!

Bill W

Forcing John Candy into that movie would have been pandering also.

Bill W

Technically PTA is a Thanksgiving film, but it could have just as easily been set around Christmas time. It wouldn't have changed the movie any.

Eric Janssen

Even in the high school age it was aimed for, when it came out, I thought, "Cool, a play-style story about teens forced to confront the fact that real people aren't the safe stereotype cliques they hide behind." Until literally the first lines of the movie, "Because you, the ADULTS put us there!" Which is pretty much what a teen would say when he didn't get it, only Hughes isn't being ironic.

I was thinking that for a new series to watch after Band of Brothers you might enjoy Moonlighting, starring a pre-Die Hard Bruce Willis. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be streaming in many places, if any, so it might be hard to find. It's too bad, it was really ahead of it's time. So instead I'll recommend Community, the greatest live action sitcom of all time.

Richard Stokes

Yes I always forget thanksgiving is a thing. in the memory banks I just remember the snow in part of it and think it must be Christmas!

Elliot Nesterman

I'll put my vote in again for "Absolutely Fabulous" as the next series. It's one of the funniest comedies to come out of Britain since "Fawlty Towers."

Eric Janssen

It's also too bitter-lesbian to be funny, which is why every cult-fan was jamming it down the public's throat in the 80's. I'll put MY vote in again for Black Adder, which starts out silly, and then turns into a homage-tribute to Fawlty Towers, with Rowan Atkinson as a Shakespearean, Elizabethan and Regency ancestor of Basil Fawlty.

Elliot Nesterman

I fear I must differ with you on Ab-Fab, but perhaps it just appeals more to folks who were connected either to the fashion industry or PR. I worked at a PR agency for a decade and a half, so lots of the jokes landed with me. And my several friends who worked in fashion thought it was brilliant. I wonder if "Call My Agent" is similarly mostly funny/poignant to people with connection to film and theatre? Certainly one can never go wrong with Black Adder. Myself, I really enjoy the first series. But then, I did Medieval Studies in undergrad and Medieval Art in grad school, so there's that.

Bill W

The best Community can do is compete with half a dozen others for 3rd. Fawlty Towers and Seinfeld are 1 and 2, whichever way you want to rank them.

Never have I ever refreshed Patreon as much as I have this morning
