We're back with some more Marx Brothers this week 🥸 Followed by The Abyss which was recommended a lot after Jaws (I went with the special edition, think it's around 2hr 45min long for all you full reaction watchers). Lastly, we've got one of our war poll winners, The Dirty Dozen on Sunday!

Can't wait to get Dawn and Dirty!!

One word describes how I feel...yaaa!

Abyss is a classic sci fi, glad it's up

Louis Marzullo

Love that pic of the 4 bros. They all said Zeppo was the funniest in private. Hard to believe but sweet they gave him the ultimate compliment (wonder where Gummo ranked?). "Harpo Speaks", his biography, for your Christmas list too, Dawn. That one I bet you'll devour!

Then only thing The Abyss and Jaws have in common is that they both take place in the water. They are very different films.

Louis Marzullo

So funny, I always think of The Deep & The Abyss together like pasta & sauce, too, even though as Bartleby might say, except for the salt water they have nothing in common 🌊

Never saw it. You know what’s great. The Robert Redford film “All is Lost” Redford plays a man in a small boat lost at sea and adrift. Redford is the only actor in the film and doesn’t speak one word of dialogue the entire movie.

Louis Marzullo

Wow, never even heard of it. And if I heard the premise, Redford is the last actor I would guess to play that character. I like him but just seems so incongruous to me. I'd picture like Bruce Dern, Dennis Hopper or Christopher Walken

Bartleby

I could see Bruce Dern, but Dennis Hopper loves to talk. And probably what’s most recognizable about Christopher Walken in his distinct cadence. Redford is great in this role and it’s a fairly newer film in his filmography. I’m sure Redford has done his share of leisurely boating so I believed him in the role.

Bill W

@Bartleby Some work in oils, others in clay.... 😉 Small puns are largely my favorite medium.

Louis Marzullo

I'll give you Hopper. You're right, too manic for that role. But Walken is almost as noted for his unique, alien-esque face, odd expressions & economy of movement as for his voice. Think he could command the screen in silence & relative stillness, as in Deer Hunter after he turns pro in Russian Roulette

Bartleby

Sure, Walken is certainly capable, but it seems counterintuitive. Why don’t you watch the movie and see what Redford does before you try and recast him.
