Perfect Christmas movie!!! This is what sets you apart from all other movie reaction channels Dawn. While they’re watching It’s a Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th Street, you’re veering left with Apocalypse Now! One of the all time classic war films and one of the greatest films of all time.

james flack

Dawn, take two Disney movies and thank me in the morning❣️

Richard

Yes! I thought this reaction was a mirage in the desert that we would never get to.

Louis Marzullo

Lol, she watched the other 2 last Christmas! Also Bartleby, look at the expression in the photo Dawn chose for this reaction. I think we're in "Dr. Strangelove" territory here 😏

Bartleby

And FYI Dawn. I’m sure you’ve gotten a lot of requests for the movie “Tropic Thunder” It’s a popular movie to react to on YouTube. With that movie though, there are some movies you should see before it. Now you not being the basic kind of movie viewer like so many of those other channels, I’m sure you’ll actually want to watch them. Well “Apocalypse Now” is one of those movies Along with “Platoon” (1986) “The Deer Hunter” (1978) “Born on the Fourth of July” (1989) And if there are any I left out, feel free to drop them below. When you’ve watched these, then you’ll really enjoy and probably love the movie “Tropic Thunder” (2008)

I love you dawn, "he looks a bit like Charlie sheen" yes that's his dad xxx

john ruddick

I did warn you about the final third being quite graphic. Poor cow 😥

Henry Graham

I'm not overly surprised that you ultimately came down on the side of not liking this, even though parts of it clearly had you entranced. Apocalypse Now is a whole lot to take in and there's no other movie quite like it. The thing to know is that it it was made in an atmosphere of pure chaos and madness, and Coppola drew parallels with the making of the film and the American experience in Vietnam: "We went into the jungle, there were too many of us, we had too much money, too much equipment and, little by little, we went insane." It's an astonishing film and one I revisit quite often. I'm glad you saw it and appreciated its moments of brilliance and power, even if the whole experience didn't work for you.

Chicago Artist Jon

Some fyi. Clean was played by Laurence Fishburne (Morpheus in the Matrix). He was 14 and lied about his age to get the part. Martin Sheen almost died during filming. Col. Kilgore (Robert Duvall - the lawyer from the godfather) was based on a real person. The movie was very loosely based on the book Heart of Darkness.

Robert Inman

Dawn, as described before, it's not so much a "boy movie" as a reflection of cultural trauma of some of the US anti-war sentiment at the end of Vietnam. One way many rationalized their positions was to represent the whole thing as essentially insane.

Bartleby

You can think what you like for the moment Dawn, but this movie is going to stay with you for the rest of your life. Even in your dreams. Perhaps this movie will break off into a new path your subconscious uses to illustrate your dreams. This one definitely deserved the “Strangest Movie Ever!” shout.

Bartleby

Oh and Dawn. It’s okay if you don’t like the movie. It’s still entertaining for us to see you react and be traumatized by the movie.

John Liebling

Dawn, you'll need a film to tickle your funny bone after watching Apocalypse Now. My suggestion is "Start The Revolution Without Me." With Gene Wilder and a young Donald Sutherland.

james flack

Dawn, if you ever react to a movie called, "O Brother Where Art Thou" and you hear the phrase, "hand me that chopper", you might want to close your eyes for about a minute or so. (a small unnecessary scene that ruined the whole movie for me) -Just sayin'....P.S. Bartleby, please be kind to this comment, my ego bruises easily. 😊

Red Lions

"I love the smell of napalm in the morning."

Bartleby

It took me a minute to even remember what you were talking about. Trying to dance around it without spoiling it, that element in that movie was completely CG. Unlike in Apocalypse Now where it was very real. LOL People actually did criticize the Coen Brothers at the time for it and they came out to show everyone how it was done. It wasn’t real. And it did have a reason for being in the movie, When you take into account that the story is a retelling or reimagining of Homer’s “The Odyssey” Still ain’t pretty! But there was a reason why it was there. Just like there was a reason for the strange ladies singing and a certain character only having one eye. The fearsome cyclops!

james flack

I understood the Oracle, the Cyclops, the Sirens, and even the transformation to a toad (rather than pigs) but I'm at loss on the significance of the cows. While we're on the subject, what's your opinion on the "Patton" donkey or the 125 horses in the 1925 "Ben Hur"? I know a lot of your comments are meant to be humorous and tongue-in cheek, but there are people out there who really have gone over to the dark side when it concerns movies ......Sorry, Bartleby, but I have a tendency to ramble on at times.......I'm done! 😎

john ruddick

Yes I think dawn would get the references now in Tropic Thunder. Don't forget Hot Shots Part Deux as well but she will have to watch the in order so not until she has seen Top Gun.

Bill W

Bartleby - I see how the scene fits in as far as keeping parallels with The Odyssey, but within the O Brother story it doesn't seem to serve any purpose. James - I don't like the scene either. It's disturbing and doesn't really affect the plot... But... since it has no effect on the plot it surely doesn't ruin the whole movie for me.

Manny

I'll say it, my dad was PBR, brown water sailor and we saw it at the theater together. He said comparing that to reality was comparing Bugs Bunny Road Runner to a National Geographic nature documentary. I tried duck, but it sucks like a black hole, so I couldn't watch wif ya mate.

Jordan Love

It only got "strangest movie ever!" because she's never seen The Holy Mountain (1973). And if she's lucky, she never will.

Bartleby

Obviously anyone who knows movies knows there are a thousand movies weirder and crazier than Apocalypse Now. Consider the “Strangest Movie Ever” shout as equivalent to her “Best Movie Ever” shout. I don’t really think Dawn believes Gremlins is the best movie over every other single thing she’s watched on the channel so far.

Bartleby

Just being a straight “realistic” war movie obviously isn’t the goal of the movie. The movie is communicating the hellish madness of war and is using the book “Heart of Darkness” set against the Vietnam war. The movie has been described by many as a fever dream. Even then, there are elements that we’ve never seen in other war movies that do ring true. Such as the chance encounter with a tiger. Other Vietnam war movies rarely factor that these soldiers are in a wild jungle with all the dangers that already exists in the wild, regardless of any war.

Manny

The goal of the movie was to make money. The scene that should have been in it ...Coppola at Arlington National bent over a grave sucking the meat of the body while money shoots out of his ass.
