WAVY HAIR!!!

Bartleby

Dawn, you’re crazy. The lead actress, Anya Taylor-Joy, was 23 or 24 years old when she made this, playing younger at 17. Common practice for film and television for someone in their early 20s to play younger. That way the drug and sex scenes are less creepy. To suggest she looks like she’s pushing 40! I don’t even care about or am a particular fan of this actress. But I have eyes. Come on now Dawn.

Scott

Everyone should have a 🐄

Louis Marzullo

Rapunzel! Tres jolie, molto bella & mucha linda! Dat's all I know! Where's Bjorn Karlsson for da Swedish?? Looking forward to wavy tresses AND eyeglasses! 🥰

Louis Marzullo

Ripple is a very cheap, fruity sweet wine, popular in many low-income, urban areas of the U.S. At least it was. It figures very prominently in 'Sanford & Son', sometimes referred to as 'The champagne of the people' 😄 I think that was a long-haired sloth Beth saw at the zoo 🦥

Bill W

Champagne + Strawberry ripple = Champipple!! You can't get Ripple anymore (pretty sure), or Night Train, Thunderbird or Muscatel. But you can still find MD 20/20, Boone's Farm, regular Mogen David and Wild Irish Rose.

Bill W

A dairy coo? or a hairy coo?

Louis Marzullo

That is a Murderer's Row, right there! Remember 'Riunite'? The chicks drank it before white Zinfandel became a thing!

John Liebling

Only 3 episodes left. Has she hit rock bottom? Or is there worse to come and better to balance it out???? Who can tell after only 4.

John Liebling

Spoiler alert, she goes back in time and dates Harry Potter.

john ruddick

I was going to send you a cow adoption thing as a present 🎁 but I'm not sure how they work. I would love to own a dairy cow and get fresh milk every morning. xxx 😇🤗😋

Louis Marzullo

Why would Borgov run away? Because he lives in the 1960's Soviet Union, under a totalitarian communist regime where "freedom" is a very dirty word. The official term for escaping such a place is "defection". You may recall it from The Hunt for Red October... Hepatitis is a liver infection caused by a virus & can be exacerbated by drinking too much booze, which can lead to cirrhosis (liver failure) & a very jaundiced skin tone. Her lover may have given her the virus if he wasn't wearing a raincoat... When Beth said "Mas" at the end, that means "more" in Spanish, as in "more champagne"... I think "addict" was the word you wanted as to Beth's drug problem

Chicago Artist Jon

I did some digging and the hairy monkey is actually an ape. An Orangutan. This seems to be an homage to the french-polish chess player Savielly Tartakover who invented what he called the orangutan opening. He came up with the idea while he was visiting the New York zoo watching the orangutans climb around. Beth receives no such inspiration and she loses.

Chicago Artist Jon

No charge. I know nothing about chess. And I’ve spent my whole life pronouncing it orangatang. Apparently there is no hard g.

Louis Marzullo

Lol, I did the same for years! I think we were subliminally influenced by TANG drink mix!

Bartleby

Are you guys being ironically clueless or did you seriously have trouble figuring out those were orangutans? I can’t tell anymore 😂

Bartleby

That is a fascinating bit of history and interesting insider Easter egg for the hard core historical Chess buffs. Which I am not.

Louis Marzullo

The edited reaction only showed one creature from the back for a few seconds; yes, I really thought it was a maned sloth. I seriously doubt it's the last time I'll be wrong about something!

Louis Marzullo

Without my spectacles, I'd probably have a better chance of survival. He wouldn't smell fear because I wouldn't see him!

john ruddick

Dawn just to let you know you can play chess on discord by the way....... I feel a challenge coming on!!!! 😋

Louis Marzullo

Watch out for that Sicilian thing that's been going on for 2,000 years, John... Oops, never mind

Bartleby

I watched the full watch along. So I got more than a glimpse. But anyone who’s seen Rise of the Planet of the Apes should be able to pick out an orangutan in a line up, no problem. Have you not seen Rise of the Planet of the Apes Louis? You should. It’s an amazing film with an amazing performance! Hail Caesar!!

Louis Marzullo

Sadly, I have not seen 'Rise', Bartleby. The last film in the franchise I saw was the 2001 installment with Mark Wahlberg (ugh), Tim Roth (yay!) & the ending that didn't make sense (at least not to me) but looked very cool. Like I said, I have a looong list of films to catch up on someday. 'Rise' has been added 👍

Bartleby

The ending of that Tim Burton Planet of the Apes was actually closer to the original book. The idea in that movie that the villain Thade was so obsessed with revenge that he took the other spaceship and followed Mark Whalberg into space. Except when Thade went through the time warp shot him out at an earlier random point in time on earth than Whalberg. And presumably Thade raised hell on earth and managed to get earths apes to unite and overthrow humanity. Rise of the Planet of the Apes is a fantastic film with an amazing performance by Andy Serkis who plays the main ape. It is a MUST see!! Unfortunately there is a serious decline in quality with the sequels to Rise in my opinion. Not a universal sentiment, my opinion. The filmmakers who managed to successfully reboot and make Rise a massive success were not brought back for the sequels.

Bartleby

The original Planet of the Apes book is definitely interesting, but I think would be fair to say the film is better and did more impactful things with those ideas. The book is good, from French author, Pierre Boulle The author of The Bridge on the River Kwai. But if your wife is an apes fan, you’re better off going after one of the limited edition busts movie sets on eBay. Or some of the nicer figures.

Eric Twice

Play a game of Chess?

Louis Marzullo

I had the whole ape compound/village in the mid 70's & at least 6 or 8 figures, ape & human. Kids from the whole block used to come over to play with it. I could've charged admission!
