1 year anniversary! (Patreon)

On this day one year ago, Mastodon reached the frontpage of Hacker News for the first time, marking the first widespread public release of the project and the first wave of users. It's absolutely unbelievable how much we've achieved since then - try reading through the oldest updates on this Patreon page to see just how much progress has been made since.

As a way to celebrate we've come up with the #MastodonMemory hashtag to let people share their favourite moments from our year together. There are lots of fantastic toots under the tag: https://mastodon.social/tags/mastodonmemory

Meanwhile, we are working hard on the v2.0 release. The release candidate will become available soon enough (following weeks) along with a more detailed sneak peek post on here. One of the fun centerpieces of this version is custom emojis (like on Discord!)

As always, thanks to everyone for your support! The sponsors page has been prettified and updated: https://joinmastodon.org/sponsors

P.S. Now that we have a community manager, Emelie (who came up with the hashtag idea and drew that picture!) it makes a lot more sense to follow Mastodon's "brand" accounts: https://mastodon.social/@Mastodon (most importantly) and https://twitter.com/MastodonProject (for those who haven't switched or those who want to help us spread the message to them!)
