i think it’s become extremely evident (to the readers that is) that the problem with nao and souta isn’t nao not reciprocating his feelings, it’s that nao doesn’t want things to change. ge explicitly states this (i know im late chill) but never states that he doesn’t feel any romantic attraction towards souta. that’s because HE DOES! nao makes it very clear in scenes that we see of him (washing the dishes after the whole kiss thing, buying souta the shoes, all the worry when souta was pushing him away) but it’s never conveyed to SOUTA himself. so obviously when souta hears that nao doesn’t want things to change he automatically believes that his feelings aren’t reciprocated (and honestly atp i don’t think it matters whether they are. some part of souta needs that relationship to change). it’s a very important detail in nao’s character that he doesn’t really trust himself with any sort of relationships (friends, family, romantic, whatever) because of his past experiences. souta was his first and is one of his only friends who was with him through a whole lot of stuff making him extremely important to nao. it’s pretty obvious that nao doesn’t trust himself to be able to upkeep a relationship with souta. it took him a very long time to trust in their friendship and even now there have been several moments where it’s clear that he thinks he’s gonna ruin it somehow. HOWEVA! when he realizes that his rejection hurt souta he goes back and tries to chase him- he tries to fix things. but i think because he gets in his head and starts believing that their friendship is fragile he believes that he’s very replaceable. this is where soutas coworker is falling in. nao don’t know this man. he’s realizing (or assuming) that there’s a side of soutas life that he doesn’t know (which isn’t that big it’s just soutas job but nao doesn’t know that) and thinking that souta can fill noa’s role with anyone but nao can’t do that with souta. throughout this series nao has only gone to one person for comfort and that’s been souta. but now he’s witnessing souta find comfort (CAUSE NAO HURT HIM) in some complete stranger to nao. so no nao is not gonna chase after him or get mad at souta. he feels bad and doesn’t have trust in their friendship or a possible relationship because he thinks he messed it all up and now is being easily replaced. i also don’t think soutas coworker is going to make nao automatically want to be with souta now out of jealousy. i think it may spark some but i think after his chapter im seeing him more as a guide for souta on how to accept himself (something he still has a hard time with-a clear theme/conflict in the story). this dude seems like he has a more stable thought process when it comes to his identity and can teach souta a lot. but it also makes a future conflict clear-he’s further teaching souta that people don’t accept this kind of stuff. he talks about how he doesn’t really tell people which i think is normal but knowing souta he either took it really chill or is gonna go bonkers and worry about telling anyone. anyway that’s my scoop!

I said something along the lines, that I hope this arc brings out more confidence in Souta. Which I really hope so. And Souta being more accepting of himself and that's it's okay. Him telling himself that "I'm proud of who I am and I'm okay, I'm happy." I just want him to feel that sense of relief to let go. Hopefully Sato and Souta friendship blooms.
