The more I look at it, the more I understand Nao. He didn’t know about the Christmas party, he isn’t used to the clubs habits. So I guess he just now learns there was a Christmas party and he’s already regretting cause ofc he’d want to spend time with Souta, but he can’t because of the concert tickets being pricey. While the Christmas party would actually be optimal cause it wouldn’t be ambiguous between them. I cannot wait to see how they will both react. Pretty sure Souta’s gonna need some distance. And I’m pretty sure we’re down for a period where Nao’s gonna suffer from it even more. He reacts so hard when Souta is away/distant. It’s gonna be worse but this time he cannot confront him cause he knows he’s the reason why. There’s nothing to fix. This chapter really is hard to read from Nao’s perspective, while from Souta, ofc it’s hard but he finds solace in Sato’s embrace, he’s comforted. Contrarily to Nao who has no way to be comforted, no friends with whom he’d feel safe enough to tell them what’s happening. My hope rn for Nao is for Keisuke to appease him, and tell him to give him time, and maybe Keisuke could lend him an ear.

Reading these all together has me seeing details I didn't before. Nao said the "I don't want things to change" line, not anything about not seeing him that way, or not feeling the same, or even never thought about it... Just fear of change. But that's how these go, it's already changed buddy, and he is already seeing it. If this last scene is a spark of jealousy one, knowing that Souta is hurt and has other people to turn to away from his hurt (Nao) might allow us to skip the longer need for realization that change has happened and the rejection, not the confession, is now what has changed their relationship the most... Interesting

I NEED Nao to know those tickets are originally from Souta and that he worked hard for them!!! Hopefully Arashi will mention that it's from Souta and Nao will connect the dots…why he worked like crazy and then had no money 💀.

Now that the full chapter is out, it is time for me to list a crapton of observations I noticed :D (again) (this will keep happening sorry everyone) Things I have noticed this chapter, (Ch. 54 Edition): *Trees. Timeskip fellas. *For how that all went, it’s a miracle they even talked to each other *Also Nao finally wore his scarf normally. *And Souta adopted the wrong way of wearing the scarf. *“Shit.” Indeed. *More trees. *It’s Keisuke!!! He hadn’t been seen in 5 episodes! *Nao and Souta going to help at the same time is pretty funny if you *ignore the panic in their eyes afterwards. *Poor Keisuke, he’s so confused. *Wait, what do you mean it’s been a week??? *I know Souta will tell Keisuke anything, but even here I’m surprised he did it with 0 hesitation. *The hand grab was kinda cute. *Remember when some of us were so sure Nao misunderstood? *Souta knew better. *“So he technically hasn’t rejected you.” *“Technically he hasn’t.” *No worries Keisuke, he doesn’t have to finish it. *“Please don’t say it.” Is probably the most accurate analysis of that face. *Even when heartbroken, Souta isn’t gonna miss Takahashi’s birthday. *“Eventually.” What is ‘eventually’, Souta? *Convo closes, Zipper does as well. *I thought Keisuke would do something here, but then remembered he won’t unless Souta says he should. *Karaoke!!! *There’s the tree again! *Wait this isn’t- *Look at Takeo go! HE SEENG *gUYS GUYS, IT’S NAO AND HIS VERY FULL CUP OF JUICE *Boy I sure hope nothing happens- *Keisuke and his tea. Based. *Orange Juice. *Hey who’s that- *…He chugged an entire cup of juice. *“I’m..also here to refill my cup.” Nao my sweet baby- *Souta had to been out for less than an minute *Nao had to have chugged that entire cup just so he could see Souta *Does his tummy hurt? *Good on Souta for starting the conversation. Despite how things are now, it’s good he doesn’t want to make it all awkward. *The soccer team doing their own Christmas party is adorable. Need to see all of them doing a group song. *Nao seems surprised that Souta wants him at the party :( Poor baby. *Wait what do you mean you can’t- *Oh right, the concert. Sigh. *Yeah, I guess the 24th is just a normal day in the end if you don’t really care. *“The tickets must have been expensive” Wait what? *Wait. Hold on. Hold on-TWINTAILS WHEN I GET YOU- *THOSE TICKETS WERE NOT BOUGHT-DID SHE MAKE HIM BELIEVE SHE- *HUH *WHAT *HOW *HUH *Anyways, I wonder why Nao didn’t realize Souta said “Of course” when he mentioned going…That. That should have been a clue, right? *“I’m sorry.” Oh no. Oh nonononono- *“...Or Are you rejecting me?” NOOOOOOO *“Maybe both.” NOOOOOO DON’T DO THIS NAO, NOT AT THE DRINK BAR PLEASE- *“Souta, you and me…I just can’t.” NOOOOOO NAO PLEASE DON’T DO THIS- *“DON’T WANT THINGS TO CHANGE BETWEEN US”???? SIR THINGS ARE WELL BEYOND THAT POINT- *God, Nao looks so devastated. Something deep down says he didn’t wanna do this :( *Souta what on earth was that slap? *“Jiffy.” *The look in Souta’s eyes, he’s losing his mind. *Poor boys. *Nao: sulking. Souta: Jittery. Keisuke: Confused. Taka: Vibing. *Taka is such an adorable nickname, using it from now on. *Didn’t expect Souta to leave the party, but after all that. I truly don’t blame him for it. *The difference between Souta saying “Crap” and Nao saying “Fuck” is the personality discretion I needed. *SOUTA MY POOR BABY NOOOOOOO *Oh hey it’s Sato! We haven’t seen him since ch. 49! (yes it has been that long). *His friends have nice outfits tbh. Even the tall guy. *“Are you okay?” Sato has no idea how much Souta needed to hear that oh my. *The hug is so sweet :( That was long overdue. Souta needed a hug two weeks ago. *I’m glad Souta has someone he can cry to. Sure him and Sato, as far we we know, aren’t very close, but seeing he was willing to let go (Though he was going to either way) into Sato’s arms is some sign he can trust him. *And Sato not judging or asking questions is incredibly based. Cry first, anything else later. *Oh. *Oh no. *Nao- *Oh no… *NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO NAOOOOOOOOOO *Some people mentioned it’s the same face he makes when he catches his mom sobbing in the laundry room as a kid and unfortunately it very much is the same face. Equally as heartbreaking.

It makes sense the chapter finished here... It's for the best🥲 my heart needs to start anew... I'm curious about the next title 🫣 anyways, it's kind of funny how this chapter and the previous one finished at the most violent point (from my pov😅), and there's no real relief (though Souta kind of gets relieved in this one... If geting rejected and hugged by a coworker and crying your eyes out counts as relieving🫠). I mean, we didn't get to know if Nao had understood the half confession, and now we didn't get to know if he's feels jealous/betrayed/disappointed/surprised, nor if Sato gets the picture or of he noticed Nao at the doors... It makes me so tense, fuck 🤣🤣🤣

Oh, my heart!! 🥺😭❤️‍🩹 I hope we get another backstory to see where Nao’s thoughts and feelings have been from the moment they began up to this point. I mean, we’ve seen the smitten looks, the rare moments when he seems almost jealous and/or heartbroken, and the mixed signals he sometimes gives Souta. And even though he never said he didn’t have feelings for Souta, it felt a little surprising for Nao to say he can’t be with him, when lately he’s been acting a little bolder and kind of like he wants to cross that line. I know the shocked look on Nao’s face at the end of the chapter doesn’t necessarily imply that he’s jealous, but I’m hoping it leads to his jealousy. Nao may need that push of fear of losing Souta/fear of Souta falling for someone else in order to act on his feelings. Also, does anyone know how much time has passed since the beginning of this comic? I know IDCC has been going for eight years, but isn’t the span of time within the comic actually less than a year? I’m thinking it’s been from late spring - late fall/early winter? I just want to make sure I am following the timeline correctly.

Okay, so I've reread the chapters and I think I get it now. At first, I was a little surprised by Nao's reaction to the confession and the rejection he then gave Souta. I thought Nao was gonna be relieved when Souta confessed and maybe even bold in response but, that's because I always thought that what was most holding back Nao's romantic actions towards Souta, was him thinking Souta liked Inoue. However, even though that factor certainly contributed to it, what was always holding him back the most, was fear of losing his best friend. And that's the fear he expressed in his facial expression to the confession, and even the rejection he gave Souta. He doesn't want anything to change - Souta is the most important person for him right now and his biggest rock. He doesn't want to jeopardize losing him by adding romantic feelings to their dynamic. So even though, he might have been disappointed and jealous knowing Souta liked someone else, he was never expecting him to like him back or hoping they could be more than friends. Nao is very closed off and not exactly a "brave" person when it comes to feelings. And even though that seemed like it was changing, with Nao almost kissing Souta in the clown costume and other little interactions they had, Nao always holds back. He's always afraid of actually crossing that line and changing their dynamic. Nao was comfortable in suppressing his feelings and suffering in silence as long as Souta remained by his side - it was the safe option. That's why Souta's confession wasn't a relief, but a burden and a scary thing. Souta opened the door - "yes, we could be more. Yes, this could change. And yes, it might not work out." Nao doesn't like that. It's new territory and carries a lot of risks to their friendship. And also it requires Nao to be extra vulnerable for it to work and we know he hates that. Of course we have to also factor in the fact that same sex relationships are not as widely accepted in society as we wanted them to be and that will weigh in in their decisions. I think it will take some courage for Nao to confess but I think seeing the rejection changing the dynamic anyway and Souta hurting will be the incentives. Maybe even the thought of losing Souta to his co-worker, might work in his favor. Also, when he inevitably finds out Souta was the one who got him the tickets, that will give him a push...and maybe Keisuke might talk to him as well. Those are my thoughts! I'm really looking forward to the next episodes :)

I know exactly how Nao feels about not wanting to ruin their relationship I had feeling for my best friend too and the thought of losing him was devastating lucky we worked out and we're now engaged but this..my heart hurts for Souta so so much. I really really can't wait to see how Nao finding out about the tickets

Ugh, so heartbreaking. My personal pet theory is this: Nao has liked Souta longer than Souta has liked Nao. They always butted heads so he didn’t think anything would come of it, and when they DID start to become friends he let himself hope a little. But when everything with his mom happened and Souta was there for him, and then even more so when Souta said he liked Inoue, Nao made the decision to just be content and happy with Souta as a friend. Kind of a, “you don’t even deserve a friend and yet you got that so don’t be greedy,” kind of decision. He was resigned to that but started getting upset when Souta was being weird around him with all the Arashi stuff. He thought he might lose him as a friend, too. When he realized that Souta DID like him back, he felt that panic of, “no, I just started to be okay without that possibility. I’ve already let go of any hopes of romance, but I’m not ready to let go of being friends. So I can’t even entertain the idea of these feelings.” It would explain the hot and cold we’ve gotten from Nao the whole way through, and at least sort of explains his panic on the ferris wheel. I spend way too much time trying to figure out what’s going on in these boys’ heads 😅
