I think these "fantasy hallucination" episodes are never great, there's always something a bit amdram about the imaginary characters, but this one was OK at least!

Christopher Hayes

Never cared for this episode. I am excited that we are approaching the end of the season where two great ones are coming though.

Tom Evans

One of my least favorites from season 1. The story was originally supposed to involve the holosuite, but TNG was doing holodeck stuff at the same time so they changed it. I wonder if it would have been better with that angle.

Jeremy Nuss

Not one of my faves, but still better than most of tng season 1.

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

I don't think anyone is going to tell you this is their favourite. In fact a lot of them will say it's amongst their least favourite. And honestly I'd be forced to agree. But I always feel the need to add the caveat "within Star Trek." There's much worse TV out their and my scale with my favourite series tends to be pretty generous. If BoBW is an A+ then IWWH is a C-. The even better news is that's it's last real weak one for the foreseeable future. Upside, it's a good one for J to get familiar with the inside of the station and get to know our characters a little better.

Ian

Ty Jen for working so hard on a Sunday night no less to get these episodes up , you're a star 🖖🔥 wishing you the best birthday anyone could ask for 🎂🎈

Dave Hampton

I always liked this one and Move Along Home. I always figured most did until the internet came along and showed me otherwise in reviews and comment sections. : )

Thegonagle

This episode might not be great—it’s completely skippable because there’s no character or series development happening—but at least it’s Trekky and fun.

jon bolton

This is my second favourite of the Season. It's a fun one, and i love it.

Julian San

This episode is a filler BUT it does introduce something that is a staple of the show… ***SPOILER ALERT*** (?) The baseball Sisko is given at the end of the episode is seen in pretty much every episode the rest of the series.

Kevin Sommerfield

Just my opinion, but In about three weeks a really standout episode is coming along - so hang in there!

Sykonee

Mostly in line with general consensus on this one, but it does have one of my favourite Kira lines for the whole series: Kira: *spouts some technobabble* What the Hell does that mean?

Banes

Yeah, it's a bit of a rough one, haha - the next couple weeks will have plenty to like, though! Very excited for what's coming up!

Banes

Did I see on YouTube that it's your birthday? HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Usually ranked in the bottom tier of season 1 episodes, but while it is minor, as far as goofy filler eps go I much prefer it to Move Along Home - the premise is funnier and less repetitive than that dud, and there's enough little character details to make it worthwhile. I would argue it's incidentally somewhat important as a Bashir character development story, since the way he initially rebuffs the fantasy version of Dax and then mourns her makes it clear he does have ethical boundaries and that his overbearing nature is more about covering up insecurities than anything indicative of actual aggression on his part. Which is all key to making him a bit more likable and less off-putting. There's also one very small development toward the episode's end that proves significant to the narrative arc of the show, but I'll let you discover what that detail is as the series continues, but suffice to say it makes the ep ever-so-slightly more important than it appears at first glance.

john reed

this one falls in the same boat as move along home a bit weak . but next week I am expecting a few laughs lol

Summer

Classic sci fi one, great watching with you Jen. I will say the next couple are better but I like it. Happy birthday!

Summer

Its interesting how each of their imaginations work, my mind jumps around too much, subtle character building with each one

RSK1995

I can't wait for your reaction to E17 The Forsaken my favorite episode of season 1 and there's another great one E19 Duet. For episode 17 I'd recommend you don't read intro credits to avoid spoilers.

Marcus Hicks

Ah yes, the 2nd of my "always skip" DS9 episodes 😉.

Opti_Frog

An okay episode, nothing special, but more engaging for me than the snoozefests of the previous two weeks.

john reed

ya forsaken next week can't wait lol

TC Green

This is the 2nd worst epsiode in the series IMO. This and Move Along Home are always skips on rewatches for me

Summer

When you need a laugh at it episode this is one to go to, its also interesting some things are better after several watches

I haven't seen this one in a long time. I had the same thought you did with the TNG episode "Where No One Has Gone Before" when The Traveler took them to the place where "... Space, Time, & Thought aren't the separate things they appear to be...." My impression was that the Subspace Rupture was a tear to that region of space and that's why all imagined stuff appeared, since it is kinda like the TNG episode. Then, when the entities started to collaborate I was deflated. Instead of a call back to an in-universe creation it all came down to a re-tread of a troupe (it was a higher being all along). I agree that the series, at this point, is trying to find a footing. They needed to find some new or ongoing/connected storylines instead of the week-to-week problem solving or Star Trek troupes. I'm excited to see more of your reactions to the writers' creations, Good or Bad. Your genuine reactions are a joy, thank you Jen!

Mastervodo

This episode was worth it just to see the Dax and Julian bit.

Ian

I really had fun with this one imagination Dax was very amusing indeed 😀 plus odo imagining quark in a cell lol brilliant. Just go into this one not expecting a storytelling masterpiece and just switch off and just enjoy it for what it is 🖖

Dean

Not a great episode, but it does harken back to some of the TOS era when the feel was much more like the Twilight Zone than TNG

John DiGiantomasso

This epidode was okay to me. Reminds me of TOS "Shore Leave" with a "Spectre of the Gun" ending, although much more reliant upon technobanble. I know worse ways to spend 45 minutes. We are on our way to the epic story arc to close out Season Seven. This was but one level. Move Along Home.

Over50Gamer

I just got done watching this one with you Jen. Unrelated: Can I PLEASE give a shout-out to ChickensAreRacist? I don't know if they visit the comments but I just have to say, ever since I noticed that name in the credits a month ago, I laugh every time I see their name now! So original... 🤣

The Star Treker (aka Michael)

Yeah it might have been a little weird even if it's not a great or the worse episode but fun. I love that Odo imagining Quark being in a cell even Julian's romantic imagination with Jadzia Dax. Lol. Yeah just enjoy it for what it is but don't worry DS9 has a lot of great episodes and a whole season arcs a head. I can't wait for you get there! At least, it's a far better episode than "Move Along Home" in my opinion but I enjoyed watching it again while watching your reaction to it! Lol

scott osborne

i like this episode cause it dives into the imagination of the crew and brings them to life but the imaginations are also on a star trek but it is confusing to who and what they are

Chris Biebel

This episode has a sort of off screen connection to a bad TNG episode. Remember the episode "Up the Long Ladder?" That was the one with two sets of lost colonists, one of which was made up of people who were a very bad caricature of the Irish. Colm Meaney (O'Brien, who is actually Irish) was in that episode and the bad stereotypes in it upset him, but he was just an extra at the time, so he didn't have much sway in how the script went. In this episode, the Rumpelstiltskin character was originally written as a leprechaun. Colm Meaney was not happy with that and as a star of this show, he put his foot down and demanded that they not go with something so stereotypically Irish. Due to his concern about it, they changed the character to Rumpelstiltskin.

Sleeper

I like this one as its almost like a first contact mission, but from the other side. But I can also definitely see how it might not be everyone's cup of tea.
