the later in the franchise they are the more i tend to like them. they fleshed her out much more as time went on in the series

Despite my mixed feelings about Lwaxana, I genuinely enjoyed this episode. It reveals a less manipulative side to her, and it provided a compelling reason to explore Odo's backstory and origins.

Like you Jen I love lwaxana she brings a fun glow to every episode she's in and yes she has a truly caring heart . I'm just always amused by her , just imagine if she got a crush and pursued Q that would be hilarious 😂 . I'd have liked if lwaxana had bumped into O'Brien in this one as she knows him that would have been amusing. But she was quite wonderful in this one and her moments with odo were fantastic. Special mention to siskos amusement at odo 🙂 just go for it buddy the commander has spoken 😀 . Sweet episode hope we see lwaxana again on DS9 no spoilers!

Definitely amongst my favourites of the Season. I tend to love a lot of the light-hearted episodes, and i love almost every episode (including TNG) with Lwaxana.

By far Lwaxana Troi’s least-annoying appearance in Trek.

The episode is very focused on caring symbology. O’Brian taking care of the computer puppy like a father to a baby needing attention, Julian taking care of a group like a young person taking care of the elderly and Lwaxana as mother figure taking care of Odo who was grown in a lab a symbolism of an orphanage where he was treated like a thing and receiving love and care for the first time as an adult and breaking through his sense of unworthiness. The title "The Forsaken" is so appropriate since all these people: The computer puppy, the ambassadors and Odo feel abandoned Side note, Lwaxana always had a thing towards the underdog the way she helped Alexander in TNG and now Odo. Another person would have felt discomfort at Odo turning into liquid she didn’t, actually she put him on her lap like a mother would put a baby to sleep. Maybe my favorite episode of S1 thank you for reacting to it!

Technobabble can be a problem in season 1, but it's much, much less of a thing in future seasons. Much more character driven than plot driven.
