** Watched the Unrated version with runtime 2:03:03 **

This one had some unexpected things for a zombie movie so I thought it was interesting! Definitely not as much gore as I was expecting -- would we even call this a horror movie? What do you guys think - action, horror, thriller, disaster?! Lol!

Hey viewers this is the UNRATED cut of the film based on the runtime. It’s 7 minutes longer. <3

Lemurian Jones

I always found it amusing that Peter Capaldi, who played Doctor Who, plays the W.H.O doctor in this.

Jen Murray

Thanks, wasn't sure which version. I'll update the post

Jason Scade

He's cousin to Scottish singer Lewis Capaldi.

I highly recommend checking out the book, especially the AUDIO version. The book is done in an interview style AFTER everything has gone down. Each chapter is a different voice actor telling their story of the war. The cast is incredible and includes Mark Hamill, John Tuturro, Henry Rollins, Alan Alda, Martin Scorsese, Nathan Fillion, Carl Reiner, Denise Crosby, Simon Pegg… the audiobook cast is more star studded than the movie!

Randy Aiken

I would call it a thrilling action disaster movie with a little horror thrown in for good measure.

Matt

Its a disaster production wise 😂 apparently they ran out of money during filming, so I've heard

“It’s not a cure… it’s camouflage”. Brilliant concept for countering any zombie apocalypse! Also, great reaction Jen. 😃 Always thought this movie had the best ever depiction of zombie horde movement. Not the slow plodding movers like in most movies of the genre, but fast-moving agile creatures flowing around and over obstacles with ease. The scenes of the zombies scaling the walls by using the bodies of others were particularly great. Sure it’s mostly CGI but it’s quite well done. One question about these zombies though. What happens to the ones that have thrown themselves off buildings or other high places after they have, most likely, broken every bone in their body, providing they haven’t caved-in their scull on impact? Do they just continue on by slithering around in their never-ending quest to infect their next host? Just curious. As for genre category, I’d have to say this is an action/horror movie. Also, was a little confused about your ask, or maybe I just misread it, but are you implying that horror movies need gore as a prerequisite?

I may have to watch this then; i absolutely love Peter's acting and I've only seen him as The Doctor.

I liked this! Once the action got rolling, it was nonstop. Jen, I think there was more gore than you give it credit for, like the CIA guy yanking his tooth out and lining it up. I think you might be getting immune to gore--could be time for Green Inferno! FYI: On Amazon Prime, they call the version Jen watched 'World War Z (Extended)'; the runtimes match.

Lemurian Jones

Check out a show called The Thick of It. He played a verrrry different character. Those of us who knew him from that show were pretty curious to see his take on the Doctor.

Major Peril

Going way back, you should check out a very young Peter Capaldi in the movie Local Hero (1983). Should watch it anyway as it's a poignant yet quite funny tale and one of director Bill Forsyth's best.

Jason Scade

I think Eli Roth's Green Inferno will be way too much for her. It's grotesque extreme horror.

Henchman Twenty1

Sadly, the movie has little to do with the book of the same name aside from Brad Pittiful working for the UN and there's zombies in it, who are not at all as presented in the book. I highly reccomend reading the book written by Max Brooks (son of Mel Brooks). Oh, and get The Zombie Suirvival Guide, also by Brooks, first.

Michael Tuffin

The movie sucked, at leat for people who read the novel before the movie came out. Read the book, it's a millions times better. The movie and book are nothing alike. The movie was bereft of gore because the studio wanted a PG-13 rating. The Max Brooks novel--he also wrote the Zombie survial guide--is brilliant, and depicts vibrantly the military's effort to stop the Zombie horde. The "Battle of Yonkers"--not in the movie--is widely acclaimed as one of the best portrayals of a miitary trying to stop Zombie masses. At some point, you may want to consider reacting to TWD. The first several seaons are exceptional---but, like also series that tryin to outlive lifepsan, eventually collapses into mediocrity.

Jason Scade

Exciting, tense reaction. 🙂👍 The scene at the start where the chaos is happening on the streets/roads was filmed at George Square in Glasgow, Scotland. I saw this in the cinema in 2013, it's okay. I believe fans of the source material weren't too impressed. 28 Days Later is a better film and it's genuinely frightening. I'd bring two blankets. +1 for 28 Days Later +1 for The Walking Dead

Jason Scade

It's good to be the king, of zombie survival books. 👑 🧟‍♀

Justin Bartlett

The audio book is soo good. I think I've listened to it 3 times (once the abridged version, then again when the new chapters were added, then a third time a few years later).

I actually liked this movie. I thought it was an imaginative take on “Zombies”. Sadly there will not likely be a second movie. Listed reasons were: 1. Scheduling conflicts between Brad Pitt and David Fincher causing delays. 2. China’s ban on zombie movies. 3. Paramount executives concern about the budget causing Fincher to part ways. Yes, its nothing like the book at all. It is better if you did not read the book before seeing this. That being said, I liked it and was hoping for a sequel.

Julian San

I have watched so many zombie movies over the last 40 years that for a time, I seriously convinced myself a zombie apocalypse was inevitable like any ol’ natural disaster 🤣

Matt

One of the best pandemic/ apocalyptic pieces of media I've ever seen is the miniseries "STATION ELEVEN" highly recommend it

JPDotCom23

I love this movie, great reaction too, it's just too bad the sequel was cancelled. The book should actually be done as a limited series.
