A disaster movie starring 007?! Yes please! Didn't know Linda Hamilton was in it too so that was a nice surprise! I loved the (practical??) effects in this one! Volcano's are freaky!! Any more disaster movies we should check out? You know I love em!

Bronson makes this movie watchable....loosely based on Mt St Helens and the town of Cougar,Washington.🌋☄️

Opti_Frog

For me it's the more entertaining movie.

Banes

Somehow missed this one; never seen it! When I hear disaster movies...well, The Island of Doctor Moreau was a pretty big disaster...might be interesting...x)

Guy Gordon

There are elements of Volcano that I don't love, but it's pretty fun for the most part, and a heck of a good production. I enjoy both Dante's Peak and Volcano. Despite both being volcano disaster movies, they're remarkably different.

David Butler

Ooh, this is great. Please tell me you're doing Volcano as well, it's such terribly great fun, emphasis on terrible.

Andrew Skow

When James Bond says "If this thing blows… If she does a Mount Saint Helens the blast will get here in a minute", he is saying if it were to explode in the same fashion Mount Saint Helens did in 1980, which was an uncommonly powerful eruption, like Krakatoa. On the Volcanic Explosivity Index, St. Helens was a 5. Krakatoa, which shattered eardrums 40 miles away and created a shockwave that circled the Earth three times was a 6. The fictional eruption of Dante's Peak is claimed to be a 7, according to Googles AI. The eruptions you think of from the likes of Kilauea are a 0 or 1.

COFFEE! COFFEE! COFFEE! COFFEE! CAPPUCCINO! JAVA! I feel ya, bro! I can’t do anything until I’ve had my morning cup of Joe. Great reaction, Jen! Always been my favorite adventure-y volcano disaster flick. Pierce Brosnan is always great in fix. 😃 Others you might try: * Volcano (1997) - a volcano erupts in downtown Los Angeles (huh?) * Pompeii (2014) - a gladiator (Kit Harrington) finds true love amidst the destruction of Pompeii * Krakatoa: East of Java (1968) - ship captain plans a salvage mission to retrieve a cargo of pearls in the Dutch East Indies (Indonesia) but, you know, volcano happens.

Whenever my Geography teacher rolled out the TV, you knew this bad boy was coming on!

Are we talking the Marlon Brando/ Val Kilmer match-up, or the previous (1977) version? Both are kinda watchable (meh). Okay, maybe for laughs. 😁

George Foot

I'd been looking forward to this one - for other disaster movies I'd recommend Daylight and Volcano, if you can suspend your disbelief a bit and just go along for the ride!

Theodore Mangini

The least accurate thing in the movie is, "if you raise the temperature slowly the frog wont jump out." That's not true, just a saying. The eruption itself is based on the eye witness account of the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius and destruction of Pompeii by roman historian Pliny the Younger. Starting with a "great tree" of smoke and ash "growing out of the mountain," the falling ash and rock, to almost a day later when it exploded and the pyroclastic cloud hitting the city a minute later, that is why the bodies at Pompeii were preserved the way they were. The volcano science in the movie is pretty good overall.

Arthur 'Two Sheds' Jackson

Yep, i like both movies, but i remember everything about Volcano and only a few things about Dante's Peak 🌋

Sorry, this is a watch along comment, so it will probably be long. As an amateur geologist, I found a lot of things to be scientifically accurate in this movie (and a lot of things are stupid). They must have had a geologist as a technical advisor while making this movie. Lots of volcanoes in BC as well, eh? All part of the Cascades. The meteors are called "lava bombs." Yes, it was too perilous! I don't think they wanted to back to have just a little bit of peril. ;) Lava bombs are not rocks, they're balls of lava. You'd be surprised how close people live to volcanoes. They figure the fertile soil is better than the odds of the volcanoes will erupt. I've spent months in the Pacific Northwest exploring volcanoes, coulees, etc. The USGS is steadily increasing their volcano monitoring. The warm/hot springs don't usually change, but a bubble or burp of scalding water is always possible. The pyroclastic (hot gas) flow travels at up to 500 mph. You can't outrun it and it can go for miles. The pyroclastic flow from Mt. St. Helen killed a USGS scientist 6 miles away and kept going. Many people were burned badly. It can be up to 1,300F or 700C. An earthquake has to be > 3, usually 3.5 before it can be felt by humans. That's an accurate depiction of bricks falling off of buildings. At 1:05, the volcano really hadn't erupted yet. It was just spewing dust and the opening up the paths for the lava. Yes, lightening is caused by static in the ash. You were saying that they didn't have time to stay at grandma's, that they had to leave. This is Craig Ferguson and his sidekick Geoff the dead gay robot doing an excellent impression of Liam Neeson: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KeuGxqTZ584 Grandma took an acid bath. The lava was on the other side of the lake, cooling as it hit the water. You will see lava again before it's over. That is an accurate depiction of how the heat from the volcano melts the ice and the water mixes with the dirt on the mountain and causes a mud flow or "Lahar". This was extremely visible during Mt. St. Helen. I think the dam was a little extreme, but they had to dramatize it because it's a movie. However lahars are very dangerous and kill hundred or thousands many times. And they look just like the movie. Logs, trees, houses, anything it comes in contact with floats down the lahar. A lahar is the consistency of liquid concrete usually. The yellow box was a transmitter to NASA for tracking the robotic explorer. I don't know if a pyroclastic flow would cause buildings to explode like that. I think that's a little extreme. Anything flammable would burn because of the heat, but it's not explosive. (see above) In reality, the USGS and/or state GS will monitor unusual volcanic activity before an eruption. Lots of science is used and the movie depicted it pretty well. The volcano is usually the climax. If the volcano starts the movie, it's all about evacuation, then recovery. Good reaction! Great movie, in my opinion. Of course, I look over or ignore the dramatization parts.

haha - the Brando/Kilmer is the disaster. I haven't seen the 1977 one - but the Island of Lost Souls, the 1930's version, is great.

Arthur 'Two Sheds' Jackson

I kinda like the Val Kilmer version only because it stars Fairuza Balk and Ron Perlman 🤣

JPDotCom23

This came out around the same time as 'Volcano', this is a better movie. One of the best disaster movies is 'Airport.

RebRox65

This movie surprised me, how much I enjoyed it

TC Green

This was one of those movies that had a twin that came out at the same time. The other was Volcano. Had the same thing happen with Deep Impact and Armageddon and a bunch of other examples.

Lee R.

I was not upset about Grandma Ruth, I would have left her butt anyway lol

Nathan Cline

Have you seen Twister, or Twisters?

Ian

Jen's reacted to twister yes and it's on her patreon and YouTube , twisters she has not seen

Harvey Lee

in a similar vein although not a pair of disaster movies The Prestige and The Illusionist , both movies about Turn of the Century magicians were released less than two months apart .

TC Green

And both great although very different movies.

pinkdino99

Jen, look up some videos of volcano lightning. It is one of the most beautiful things you can ever see.
