2x4 Invasive Procedures

*Watch-Along (no copy needed to sync) available! LINK BELOW

This week we get some more info about the Trills finally! I've been so curious to learn more! Also, it was pretty crazy to have DS9 evacuated so soon after the 3-parter where that happened too. Engage! ðŸ––

To all DS9 fans, Shout! Studios has just uploaded the wonderful DS9 documentary What We Left Behind: Looking Back At Star Trek: Deep Space Nine to their Youtube channel. If you haven't seen it, i wholeheartedly recommend it. Sorry Jen, you're not allowed to watch this yet. 😋 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3u3WwFMgy5A

TC Green

A decent episode but it always felt unpolished to me.

Zapp Rowsdower

Agreed. Jen can put that on her Trek watch list, after finishing DS9.

Opti_Frog

I really like this episode. It's a bit underwritten dramatically, but there's some wonderful stuff with Verad's different personalities and some excellent Quark moments.

Banes

Quark is definitely funny, and shady, and his moral lines are not the same as our Starfleet types! It'll always be interesting to see when you like him, when you don't, and all that good stuff.

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

First time I've noticed that shot starting on Varrod in Sisko's office that pans around through the door and down the steps into Ops. It's not the kind of directing that jumps right out at you but it's low-key really good.

Mark Chrisco

Not a bad episode, but it comes a bit too soon after the events in "Dax."

Mr. Mike's Multiverse

Jen, the "red thing" at the bottom is the fusion reactor for the station.

After what must have been considerable expense in the opening three-parter, it's no surprise that the production staff would have a bottle show to save some budget for the rest of the season. While this is one of Terry Farrell's favorite episodes (she enjoyed the chance to differentiate between Jadzia the host, and Dax, the functionally immortal symbiont), Armin Shimerman felt quite differently: "I worry when Quark doesn't get punished for really sizable crimes. It makes the character less important since his acts trigger no consequences, and it makes Odo look a little foolish, in that he's the law keeper and he can't get this little troll punished." (Sourced from the episode's entry on Memory Alpha. I recommend it as one of the best reference sites for the entire Star Trek franchise, but it can spoil future episodes, so caution is recommended for first-time viewers.) For what it's worth, I've always enjoyed this one. John Glover kills it as the nervous Verad and the supremely confident Verad Dax. And the way Sisko reacts to the newly joined Verad is spectacular; he tries to leverage their longtime friendship to save Jadzia, but in the end it's Mereel who responds to his argument. Bashir gets to display not only a high level of medical competence but also cleverness in the way he takes out the Klingon. The only real loser here is O'Brien, who gets sidelined after a phaser hit. At least he got some egg broth out of it.

Desmond

Yeah, I agree. Quark crossed a line in this one. He usually toes that line pretty well. You're going to enjoy his development over the next few seasons.

Alexis Vorian

Well, Quark just thought they wanted his merchandise, he didn't know anything about Dax.

The Star Treker (aka Michael)

I really loved seeing Jadzia and Julian together in this episode—they have such a great dynamic. Poor Miles O'Brien, though… getting hit with a phaser, the guy just can't catch a break! Lol. And then there's Quark. Even when he's up to his usual shady tricks and crossing the line, I can't help but love him. That's just who he is, and honestly, it's part of his charm. John Glover was fantastic as Verad. He brought so much depth to the character, especially after the Dax symbiont joined with him. Sometimes I forget he even guest-starred on DS9, because I always think of him as Lionel Luthor from Smallville. If you haven't seen Smallville, I seriously recommend it—it's literally Superman's origin story with a new twist and a lot of sci-fi elements in it, and it ran for ten seasons. John Glover is amazing in it. I'd love to hear your thoughts if you ever decide to check it out!

Great episode and great reaction Jen. I knew you'd love most Daxxy episodes. I'm still keeping the prediction i made just after you started DS9, that one day maybe for Halloween or something, you'll wear your blue uniform and paint Trill spots on your face, just like Jadzia😋

Rob Nichols

You've seen the Trill implant procedure twice, in TNG The Host and DS9 Emissary. Was it so traumatic you blocked it out?

Bobby Coolbreeze

Quark is about profit but i don’t he intended it to go that way? Also he is smart enough that it doesn’t come back to him. Thats why he gets away with being an accessory to the crimes

Sykonee

We've seen him argumentative and frustrated before, but I think this is the first time we've seen Sisko get truly angry, almost vengeful after feeling betrayed by Verad Dax. Even going so far as to risk both Dax and Jadzia's lives with that phaser blast. Interesting character tick, that.

Bammer

Quark deals with illegal/stolen merchandise. His intent in this episode was for him to sell the items he was handling in his bar to the Klingon, Yeto, but that was just a lie that was concocted to get onto the station. That's why Yeto was calling Quark a "stupid Ferengi."

Andrew Roach

I agree with the consensus, I don't think Quark knew Jadzia's life would be in danger. And once he did he started the plan to take out that Klingon in the infirmary and free Odo.

TC Green

All your questions about back story will be answered. This show does a good job building its characters over time.

Carlos Stevens

So Jen, it took an entire season for you to get the hang of the DS9 Theme? heh heh heh

Clay F

"She's too beautiful to die." Interesting learning/recalling more about trills.
