Kane Is Able

I don't know if I can sit through this one again. Unfortunately, for season 7, the highs are never as high as the lows are low. And season 7 has some ofvthe highest of high episodes.

Travis

This is one of my favorite episodes

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

I don't think I've ever been this hype for Phantasms. If you asked me, in a vacuum and in my personal opinion, like a C. A solid C. Not weak enough for a C- but a B feels like a real overreach. Knowing that I'll be watching it through Jen's good faith eyes and knowing her love of Data it gets a special exemption to a C+, and now that B- doesn't seem quite so ridiculous. Probably my happiest side benefit from watching the really good reactors like J, helping me to better enjoy some of the episodes I tend to gloss over.

I like these even more when you like them! I actually do like this episode if not only for the Spot scenes but the whole idea is pretty cool. Almost sort of sci fi horror in parts.

The Star Treker (aka Michael)

Honestly, I never found this episode creepy—just kind of weird in a fun, dreamlike way. Data's dream sequences were always more curious than scary to me. Still, I felt bad when he stabbed Counselor Troi. You could tell it messed with him. They’re close friends, and even though it wasn't his fault, it still hit hard. Also, I'll never get tired of Picard's classic lines—"Engage" and "Make it so." They'll always hit right. Pure Star Trek gold. 😂 And that scene where Data tells Worf to take care of Spot—and to tell him he's a "pretty cat"—kills me every time. It's hilarious and kind of sweet in a totally Data way. I love that it became a meme and a gif. Total classic. I can't remember if Brent Spiner said this when I met him at a con or if it was in some behind-the-scenes interview, but he said he hated that cat. Apparently, it scratched or attacked him during filming. I think there were two different cats that played Spot in TNG. Also, I was starting to wonder when your Star Trek reactions were dropping this week! I was getting a little worried—hoping you were okay. But hey, life happens. I'm just glad to see you're back with two new ones—DS9 and TNG? Heck yeah! 😄

Thegonagle

Brent Spiner has said that Spot was the single worst actor he’s ever worked with.

Summer

If Data says something is wrong they need to listen

john reed

cellular peptide cake !!!!! with mint frosting !!!! 😜

Rob Nichols

Which one? Spot was played by several different cats.

The dream stuff is definitely the most memorable of this episode, but I've always appreciated the 'slice of life' small moments in it too. Picard being a fuss-pot hovering around engineering, a co-worker crush on Geordie, Riker apparently introducing jazz to Alexander's musical pallet, and of course 'tell him he's a pretty cat'. Strangely, in an episode filled with weird imagery, the one that always stands out for me is when we see the Enterprise do its classic fly-by the camera before going to warp, then the nacelles just fizzle out. Don't think we've ever seen something like that.

Joel

I think the idea of Data's dream being some kind of warning is very interesting, because, if true, it would mean very likely that it was an intended function designed by Dr. Soong.

jon bolton

I love t one. It combines comedy and horror, my two favourite genres.

Bobby Coolbreeze

It’s one of those bottle shows. Today one would call it a filler show. A Data episode that was to me “meh”. Yeah it was creepy and slow paced. We just came off an exciting 2 parter so 🤷‍♂️ Next week’s is pretty good and will be a somewhat an emotional one for one the crew. I won’t say no more🤐

Zapp Rowsdower

It's one of my favorite stand-alone episodes. It was almost their Halloween episode, but it aired one week earlier instead.

Matt Poppell

Every season has its fair share of stinker episodes. That’s the downside of the 26 episode format that they had to contend with. Nowadays with shows we get 10 episodes every few years, so they better all be A+.

Ortizmo

Now I want cake. With mint frosting.

Bammer

(notices your profile pic) "It's a caaaaaaake!"

Ortizmo

Nicely done. 👌

Interesting but odd episode. To me, not stellar, not horrible, but a S7 average episode. I did like the Data cake made by Troi at the end.

Joe Blankenship

Geordie wasn't interested in that girl? He needs to get that visor checked.
