Jen's thumbnail expression pretty much sums up my feelings on the episode exactly. I never rewatch it (though I'll check out the YouTube edit) because it's so utterly middling and boring. I don't even remember the b plot...

Summer

The little one probably loves your singing, so glad you were able to watch

Summer

It is great too that you already see the good in Nog

Richard Kiley was a great actor, he narrated the ride film in Jurassic Park. "The voice you hear is Richard Kiley, we spared no expense."

It's always a bit embarrassing when the episode isn't good. The idea of a planet where divorce is never done, no matter what...that was a memorable idea; even after all these years it stuck with me. Bad episode, though. Very boring. Buuut...I'm gonna watch it now anyway. Maybe there's a B plot I forgot about.

Fun fact: Kang, the Klingon who was the subject of the poem that Dr. Big Head Science Pants or whatever his name was kept citing was in an original Star Trek episode.

You kinda' hit the nail with Sisko here, in that we haven't really gotten an episode focusing on him since... gosh, the first one? We've seen him as Commander Of DS9 and Father Of Jake, and solid in those roles, but always reacting to events around him. Unfortunately, even the show-runners hadn't really figured out who Ben Sisko was yet, and it's pretty clear they were still fumbling with that. Matters weren't helped that Avery Brooks wasn't always given material that let him 'glide' into his preferred style of acting (or maybe just directed to keep things rather static). You get glimmers of it with Dax and Jake, but the line in this episode that always sticks out as Best Avery is when he says "And the last time I saw her, she was wearing... she was wearing... red." Such moments are sorely lacking though, and I'd rank this possibly S2's worst episode for how plodding it is. All that said, I still enjoy the b-plot, just because it feels like Classic Trek sci-fi fun (subtle Genesis Project namedrop included).

Rob Nichols

An episode Jen will have to watch soon.

Well, without spoilers I can say there is at least one romantic relationship on DS9 - Keiko and Miles O'Brien!

The hum you're always hearing in the background when we're on ships is the warp engine! It's a nice little production touch and they've had it since the beginning of TNG I think. When the ships are going fast you can sometimes hear it louder/faster.

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

Maybe not the best or most interesting episode but I enjoy it for the character interactions, a lot of slice of life stuff that helps to flesh out our characters as well as life on the station.

TC Green

One of the weaker episodes of the season for sure

Summer

Redacted redacted redacted redacted…..

While this may not be an episode where they swing for the fences with dramatic plot twists and action, I still enjoyed for Cmdr. Sisko's character development both with the non-physical entity as well as with Jake. For me, this was a solid episode and the type of episode which i miss in today's world where seasons only have 6 episodes and 10 to 12 episodes is considered a "long" season. Today, they don't have time to give characters this amount of nuance.

I love how you hum the theme every time, let's me get the feeds synched so much more accurately than the clock alone!

Opti_Frog

This is the first episode of this rewatch that i had no memory of at all. The story is standard Trek stuff, but the guest characters are pretty great. I even got a bit emotional from Seyetik's sacrifice.

Summer

You are a great reactor Jen

scott osborne

i could tell you if sisko ends up with someone or not but im not going to spoil it for you will just have to wait it out just like with tng but anyways how you and baby doing?

Lee

He was also a great Columbo killer, in "A Friend in Deed."

Lee R.

I liked this one though it's not everyone's favorite. Maybe because of Salli Richardson lol, she was so beautiful and still ls today!

Noremac

Whenever Jen starts talking about she hopes the captain falls in love, I start feeling sorry for myself haha.

William Rosmer

the kind of cool thing is that sikso's actor treated jake's actor like his own son. taking him out to sporting events and such.

John DiGiantomasso

I just watched a review of ST3: The Search For Spock. Similar themes here with Terraforming and creating a new star and all. In that one, David Marcus revealed he releid on "Protomatter" to "solve certain problems." Saavik poined out that protomatter was wildly unstable, and no serious scientist worked with it. I guess they had a generation to work all that out. If not, don't trust that star!

Chris Biebel

One of the things that attracted Avery Brooks to the role of Sisko was the father-son situation in the show. It's kind of interesting when you consider that Michael Dorn was upset when they created Alexander and then had Worf send him away (Although technically a Klingon and therefore not a "black man" the idea of a character played by a black man not being a good father and sending his son away didn't sit well with Dorn). The Ben Sisko and Jake situation was a better role model situation. BTW, speaking of Jake Sisko, Armin Shimerman (who played Quark) commented on a podcast that when he was rewatching the show, he was very impressed with the acting of Cirroc Lofton, and it wasn't a case of "he was great as a child actor." He was impressed with him as an actor in general.

Chris Biebel

There's a story about an upcoming character whose actress was originally meant to be cast as a girlfriend of Jake's. She wasn't exactly a teenager and when Avery Brooks heard about it, his response was along the lines of "Not with my son, she isn't!" She was recast into another role.

Paul Sophocleous

The guest actress also had the main role in the Disney series Gargoyles (which also starred many Trek actors).

TC Green

I didn’t know this story so I looked it up; holy smokes I can’t believe they thought she would be age appropriate for Jake.

Marcus Hicks

A fairly average episode significantly buoyed up by the amazing acting of Brooks & Lofton-& the larger than life personality of the professor.
