Knew you would like this

Summer

The next two weeks have interesting episodes

Clay F

From the beginning of the episode, you seemed bothered by her existence. The dilemma at the end whether or not to tell her she an android is a highlight of the episode. I like the episode ok. Good Data info and the interesting dilemma. In the top half of S7 episodes for me. Only 15 more episodes remaining in the series.

Jeremy Nuss

If I found out I were an android I'd be mad at whoever programmed this chronic back pain.

Clay F

Maybe unsettled or suspicious are better words, but more likely, I completely misread your reaction. I am not perceptive.

WinkNudgeNudge

Sadly, the emotion chip was damaged when he phasered Lore. I liked this episode a lot.

Jen Murray

I was thinking there's got to be more to this story so suspicious is about right! :)

After S7's clutch of Family Tragedy episodes, it's nice having one that's actually rather sweet. Even the twist, though raising an interesting ethical quandary, was kept understated and resolved in a touching manner. Always feels like I'm sipping hot chocolate with my grandma while catching her up on life, watching this one.

Banes

I didn't really remember this one. Liked it! I know that lady from somewhere. Her name looks Irish. Gotta look her up.

Vina

Really it's Jen thinking ahead of the plot :) In a show like this, you get trained to be suspicious when there is a setup like this, waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Jeff Seely

Telling someone who has always believed that they're human that they're really an android with someone else's memories sounds to me like the start of a villain origin story. There's no telling what might have happened if Data had told her the truth. It might have created an instability in her programming and driven her insane. Data might have ended up with another Lore on his hands.

Redacted will Redacted, Redacted and Redacted are Redacted, then redacted also Redacted

I enjoyed it too! This episode reminds me of both Blade Runner movies where one of the main characters has an identity crisis: one (Rachel) where they discover they are a replicant and the other "discovering" that he (K) is a replicant. (I won't get into whether or not Deckard is a replicant.) In both movies, the characters didn't take the news well. But, they adjusted and made choices based on their new knowledge (esp. Rachel). But, these characters were much younger where as Dr. Tainer (Data's Mom) was nearing the end of her programmed end-of-life. Based on that, I think Data made the right decision. Let her live her remaining days in peace.

Noonien Soong said she would shut down if she found out she was a android not sure why they would tell her

scott osborne

if i was an android i would not want to know unless i got hurt and was still awake then it would be like WTF im a friggin android

Bobby Coolbreeze

This is actually a nice episode. Data has a mom! You’re a mom now congrats! Very appropriate you saw this episode at this time! Very cool!

Over50Gamer

I noticed that too; quite the script discontinuity.

This episode raised even deeper questions for me and it's those that get revisited by a lot of sci-fi shows and movies: what is the nature of self when it comes to the mind? Do memories make up a "soul", if there is such a thing, or does it go more or less deeper than that? Because that positronic brain matrix has the real Juliana's memories, is that really "her" but just in an android body, or would she still be a fascimile of what she once was? I sometimes think of what might happen if somehow I had my thoughts and memories, the essence of my brain, transferred to some other medium. There's just too many variables dealing with how stable something like that would be and it's nearly terrifying to me.

Over50Gamer

Something else to consider in the above scenario with my brain is that it has "flaws" (if you want to call them that) where I compensate for things like autism, ADHD, and clinical depression brought on by my brain's inherent wiring and chemistry. If my thoughts and memories were transferred to another medium, I don't think it would be "me" anymore. That IS kinda terrifying.

Noremac

I'd love to learn I was an android. "Get this freakin' emotion chip outta me NOW!"

Opti_Frog

Fionnula Flanagan is fantastic, and she's still acting at 83.

William Rosmer

i don't think there was an objective right or a wrong in this situation.
