Remember you need to watch a TOS before next week's DS9, season 3 Day Of The Dove.

Jen Murray

I did fix the thumbnail to say ep 18 but still showing ep 17 maybe?

phillip giroux

Leaning into the whole DS9 as Casablanca vibe and I love it.

Curran Dobbs

Garak's more of a "complicated tailor".

Ian

Love Jen trek upload days ๐Ÿ–– even if I had to travel through a hundred wormholes I'd be there . Make it so ! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

This is a pretty mediocre episode BUT all of the remaining 8 episodes in season 2 are great, and that quality continues well into season 3. I'm really looking forward to seeing your reaction to the coming episodes. DS9 is about to hit its stride!

For me this episodes really showcases the strength of DS9 being stationary compared to TNG. Since the Enterprise usually just moves on at the end of an episode it often portrays the aliens of the week as a "planet of hats", them all having the same trait needed for the episode (this is not a dig against TNG, just the nature of the show). DS9 though can really dig into the Bajorans or Cardassians and show more nuances (like Marritza from Duet, one of my top 5 Star Trek episodes of all time).

when he served the drink to her he tapped the side of the glass. the drink changes on screen from clear at that point.

Summer

Great episode underrated we get to see Quark deep.

Opti_Frog

I think Jen is starting to see why Garak is one of the most beloved DS9 characters.

Death Lego

Bridge is fine enough, as it could be referred to as the bridge of operations. The Operations Center is the formal name, I think. Way more commonly, it's referred to as Ops.

Bobby Coolbreeze

Garak is one of the most intriguing characters on the show. Good episode. We see a side of Quark you donโ€™t rarely see. He really would have given up everything for Natima.

George Foot

For me this episode has some of the best written scenes of the series so far, so many characters with hidden agendas and plenty of screen time given to their conversations, with plenty of subtext. Really nice episode, clearly taking a lot of inspiration from Casablanca.

Of all the gin joints on all the space stations in all the galaxy, she had to walk into Quarks....

It took DS9 this long to really start taking advantage of its setting. Many episodes in the first two seasons could easily have been TNG episodes, like a few recent ones "Armageddon Game," "Paradise" and "Shadowplay." They're not bad episodes, they're just TNG-style. From this point on we're pretty much done with alien-of-the-week episodes.

And the Garak rabbit hole begins

Summer

I sometimes womder if in creating Garak they at first wanted him to be someone else, a different Cardassian we have met, but it fell through and they made the characters different people

Chris Biebel

And the sad part is, he's a very good tailor... ๐Ÿ˜‰

Mary Crosby (Natima) is the aunt of Denise Crosby. Her biggest claim to fame is playing the character who shot J.R. Ewing in the TV series "Dallas" in 1980. The mystery of the shooter was a global pop culture event.

Clay F

In the scene early in the episode in Garak's shop with Garak and Quark, I thought Garak's metaphors were clear. Good writing. My favorite scene of the episode. I am not sure how convincing the romance between Quark and the Cardassian.

Guy Incognito

The dialogs of the Cardassians (especially Gul Dukat and Garak) reveal a lot about their cultural and personal background. It's definetly worth listening very closely whenever they say something. In order to understand Garak you should note his views on loyalty to the state.

Marcus Hicks

The Casablanca vibes of this episode were off the charts. I do so love a great homage.

You think this episode is mediocre? Next to the finale, this is my favourite episode of Season 2, as it focuses on two of my favourite characters-Quark and Garak.
