Another Hitchcock in the vault! This one really built the tension. I mentioned in there that I hadn't noticed any music but it was only after I finished my review that I realized I don't think there was really any music at all?! Crazy!! Any other spooky Hitchcock's we should check out?

I am so looking forward to this one! I'm sure you noticed that Mitch was played by Rod Taylor from The Time Machine. His mom was Jessica Tandy from Cocoon. Mitch's young sister Cathy is Veronica Cartwright, Lambert in Alien, she started her scream queen career early. School teacher Annie is Suzanne Pleshette, best known as Bob Newhart's wife on The Bob Newhart Show. The shot where the birds fly off from the monkey bars was achieved by setting off a fire cracker. The editor trimmed a few frames to make the fly off more abrupt. Yeah no music, just the bird sounds, which weren't quite as musical as usual. This and Psycho are pretty much it for spooky Hitchcock, but there's plenty of tension in his other thrillers. There's The Man Who Knew Too Much, and Hitch's last film Family Plot with a score by John Williams, I added both to the request site.

2026-10-07 05:00 THE BIRDS!!! A true horror classic. I’ve got a cousin that is still to this day scared of flocks of birds after she saw this as a kid.

I've never been scared of birds, but I can't see a black bird without thinking of this movie 🐦‍⬛

I don’t see myself cancelling Jen anytime soon. With Star Trek and her awesome selection of movies, I’ve been entertained for years now!

There are so many Hitchcock movies to check out. Noting that you've already watched Psycho, Rear Window, North by Northwest, Shadow of a Doubt and The Birds -- I'd recommend Rope and The Trouble With Harry.

Kristin

Edith Head was a famous costume designer. She was also the inspiration for Edna Mode in the Incredibles. No Capes!!

Time for some classic Hitchcock, and i'm right here. I know you don't take requests from comments Jen, so i'm only saying that i love Hitchcock and my 3 favourites are Rear Window, Frenzy, and Psycho.

Harvey Lee

The Birds is one of my favorite Hitchcock films , It builds the tension slowly and does something like a genre switch it starts off like a light romantic comedy but then turns into one terrifying thriller .🦅

jon bolton

I agree about Rope and The Trouble With Harry...almost said the Trouble With Tribbles out of habit lol.

Drew

Good catch, Jen. Edith Head is the most famous film costume designer of all-time (35 Academy Award nominations for best costume design). Though a huge Hitchcock fan, The Birds never resonated strongly with me. Very much look forward to you seeing my favorite Hitchcock (and favorite overall) film of all-time -- Vertigo (a fantastic film score in that one too).

Bodega Bay where Melanie goes with the lovebirds is mentioned in several later horror films including The Fog, and Puppet Master, both of which i love.

Now after a few Hitchcock movies under your belt you need to see Mel Brooks in High Anxiety. He spoofs a lot of Hitchcock in hilarious ways. My favorite movie of his. Plus Harvey Korman is hysterical in it.

Kevin Sommerfield

This seems like an unusual Hitchcock movie in that something almost supernatural seems to be going on.. Interesting. It reminds me of Psycho in that the first half of the movie and the second half almost seem like two different movies. Thanks for the reaction!

No one in town had a shotgun?

Adam R

The Crow would be a good follow up to this! 😁🐦‍⬛

Rod

Strangers on a Train (1951) is a not so well known Hitchcock thriller. Crazy scene at the end!

Marc Peterson

Wonderful reaction! This movie scared the bejeezus out of me as a kid. Tippi Hedren is still with us at age 95. She is a devoted animal rights activist, receiving many honors, although she doesn’t really crow about it! Amazing she wore that green outfit and heels through the whole story, and ran down that hill in heels!

RemDvm

Tippi Hedren DOES look like Cassie from popcorn in bed! I didn’t notice it until you mentioned it. I even watched Cassie‘s reaction to The Birds and didn’t see it. Now I can’t unsee it😂.

Mark T

Yes Jen. The man leaving the pet store with the dogs was indeed Hitchcock making his trademark appearance

RemDvm

Jessica Tandy is not Tippi Hedren’s mom. Tippi Hedren is Melanie Griffin’s mom.

After seeing this, hows your fear of birds now Jen😂

Rob Nichols

Oof! I stepped in it that time, I gotta stop relying on my failing memory lol.

Noremac

I've never really gotten much out of this movie. But I must say Vertigo is one of my favorites.

Ian

In that case you're be happy to know psycho and rear window are both on Jen's channel 👍

One of my very favorite Hitchcock movies. I love the lack of music and how it takes its time and even though I have seen it several times now I still am so tense throughout the last half hour. To me it is a masterpiece.

Ian

really enjoyed this one , your reaction was great as always jen however i wasnt very impressed with the ending ngl that was rather naff but other than that this is a fine movie

Darren Swinbank

I do enjoy this but I literally just watched someone else react to it, shame its like busses, there's never any busses then two come along at once.

Kristin

I LOVE Trouble with Harry. It's such a great movie!

John Shepard

Nice reaction to the film. I like this movie but not the ending. Left me hanging too much. Vertigo it also a great movie but not on my top list. Hitchcock is more suspense than horror in his movies. A couple of other good ones are Strangers on a Train, and Dial M for Murder. Hope for more Hitchcock in the future.

Ron

More Hitchcock to check out: * Vertigo (1958) * The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) * The Trouble with Harry (1955)

Darryl Low

No matter how many times you watch this film, that fade to black at the end seems all too sudden 😄 Hitchcock talked about a different ending, having them make it to San Francisco but the Golden Gate Bridge is covered in birds. I guess their budget never stretched to that. Rope, Strangers on A Train, Vertigo and Dial M for Murder are good thrillers. To Catch A Thief and North By Northwest are mysteries with an epic feel to them. And also a shout out for Psycho II if you want to continue the Norman Bates story. Not directed by Hitchcock, but done in a respectful way that's creepy, with a mysterious plot and also a really great Jerry score. Thanks for another great spooky reaction Jen 😊
