2026-10-07 05:00 I should be getting some sleep but when Jen posts a Star Trek reaction some rules need to be broken 🔥🖖

Colin Davis

this is where the fun begins! honestly last episode marks the start of the true stride that ds9 has with great episodes for the rest of the series, but this episode truly starts to flesh out the tone that the series has from here on out. i’m so excited to watch from here

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

"He enjoys himself when he's with his friends and son." You're absolutely correct, J. But he doesn't take any shit, either, and it's for both those reasons that we love him.

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

I really, really, REALLY, enjoy it when we do "Star Trek politics" episodes so needless to say I adore the fuck out of this one. Top tier. And I adore the fuck out how much you adore the fuck out of it. Watching you react to this one has just been a joy. Hyped as always for next week, J.

Laura Thornley

I want to watch now but I'm falling asleep at my PC. Tomorrow it is. But its a great episode.

Vina

Re. wanting to know what the old Dax looked like, he was shown in Dax's flashback to her Trill joining from the series premier "Emissary" (around 37:30 into part 1)

Rob Nichols

If Sisko's friend Calvin Hudson looks familiar it's because Bernie Casey played Felix Leiter in Never Say Never Again.

Galactic74

This is also an important starting point for Star Trek Voyager - if you decide to watch it

Over50Gamer

"And then the fun begins 😁" - The Clown IYKYK

Lee

I can think of at least one future episode that pales next to most of the episodes we've seen. It's not as though DS9 had to bounce back from almost two full seasons of below average episodes the way that TNG did, but everyone has their own opinion.

Over50Gamer

And Marc Alaimo is the perfect actor for Dukat. He embodies Dukat with so much complexity!

Julian San

Awww yeah! Excellent two-parter. Btw Jen totally said Kardashian in the outro 😂

Sykonee

Seeing how this episode does follow so perfectly from the previous TNG one, it's a shame we didn't get more of that between the two shows up to this point. I get DS9 had to establish its own voice, and any kind of serialization was still taboo with syndicated shows (even within a shared universe), but man, the possibilities...

TigerMyth

You can't judge a Ferengi with your Hooman beliefs. He really isn't bad for a Ferengi.

Summer

Even though I love season one and most of season 2 before now I know this is where it turns a few important episodes here. One of the few DS9 two parters that says so

Summer

I just realized….We now know Dukat’s code too bad Sisko doesn’t have a photographic memory if you know next season you know

Ian

You nailed the theme at the end of the episode Jen 🙌🔥🎶 practicing it on the little guy is really paying off eh 🙂

Lee R.

Yep, always enjoyed him as an actor. Besides DS9 he's been in several other sci-fi shows, Babylon 5, SeaQuest, and Martian Chronicles to name a few. Plus can never forget he appeared in Revenge of the Nerds lol

Opti_Frog

I don't have enough adjectives to describe how deliciously Marc Alaimo chose to play Dukat. He could have been a regular one-dimensional space-nazi but instead he's complex, charming, funny and unpredictable. Sisko, Quark and Kira are also on top form in this episode.

john reed

ya I woke up at 4 in the morning looked at the phone and seen the post and stayed up for jen -trek lol

Rob Nichols

It's never occurred to me but the DS9 theme would make a good lullaby .

Desmond

Yeah, basically every episode from here on out is a winner. (at least in this season)

Zapp Rowsdower

I'm pretty sure Cardassians change their codes all the time, so it would be worthless.

Desmond

I'm not sure if I'd say this is where the show "picks up"; there's already been a lot of good stuff of course. But this is where your decision to watch everything in airdate order really pays off, as you are correct, this is a direct followup to what started on TNG.

Summer

Good point, thats why he did it so casually, but it was an interesting thought

Desmond

And you're also right about Quark...he does sometimes push the boundaries of acceptable behavior on this show. Sometimes he pays for it...sometimes he doesn't.

Bobby Coolbreeze

Yeah the series does start to kick in from here but it doesn’t go into overdrive yet. The Maquis storyline is only a small part of the overall plot in the series. The stakes do get higher as we go on. Dukat is an interesting character and really gets more fleshed out from here. Personally I wasn’t a big fan of the Maquis storyline as there would be something else that would take more precedence and something more ominous that we been getting hints of. I can’t wait till we hit the season finale and then season 3 but it’s season 4 that will get bonkers and go bananas! I would love it if you this DS9 every night instead lol Waiting a week to watch with you and react is kinda like the old days waiting for a new episode to come out.

BakaOppai

The show doesnt really begin until the next visitors start to show up, i think people mis-remember. When i rewatch this show i usually skip the first two seasons.

WinkNudgeNudge

The term Maquis was also the term used by the French Resistance in World War 2. Definitely a good opportunity to start Voyager soon, as well! I'd definitely say it's worth a watch. Has some really definitive episodes in Trek.

Guy Incognito

Again a great reaction to a great episode, Jen. One thing to take away (out of many others) from this episode is that Gul Dukat has seven children and that Cardassians value their family a lot.

Clay F

Great episode.
