Ready Player One would hit a lot of notes for you!

Dylan

Great list Jen. So many awesome choices, I’m voting for all of them and I hope Ready Player One wins you’d definitely love it 🔥

JFC

If you ever watch Almost Famous, watch the theatrical cut. I don't mind all the little extras and slower pace of the director's cut, but it is way too slow for a first watch.

Zack Parks

READY PLAYER ONE - my favorite movie of 2018. Saw it in IMAX opening night.

Brian Galvin

Almost famous Stillwater the best fictional band ever

Brian Galvin

Hey Jen, where are you gonna be for Christmas? I got the mistletoe. Heh with love

Jim

I can’t vote against Almost Famous. Such a great movie!

Paul Peavler

I hope Whiplash doesn’t stay so far down the list…

Kane

I can't believe Almost Famous isn't crushing this, Jen would 1000% love Almost Famous.

Robert da Spruce

Although not high in votes. As a musician and lover of music that you are, I think you would appreciate Whiplash Jen

Byrd N. Hand

Indeed, the fact that it's currently last is criminal. 😒

Byrd N. Hand

Second to Spinal Tap, I'd say.

Byrd N. Hand

Spielberg's best 'crowd-pleaser' film since "Last Crusade," IMO.

OwenMeany

Jen would love Whiplash! Great story and fantastic music

Byrd N. Hand

Agreed. It's one of my favorite films of the 2010's along with "Black Swan," "Moonrise Kingdom," "Birdman," and "Jojo Rabbit."

Jack Mingle

I'll be honest, Whiplash never jived with me on pretty much any level, I never got what people found so great about it despite multiple viewings.

Byrd N. Hand

Jack, I feel the same way about films like "GoodFellas," "Schindler's List," "Saving Private Ryan," and "The Matrix." I admire those films, but I don't get why so many people practically orgasm over them. 🤷‍♂️

Byrd N. Hand

It's good, but I personally like "Ready Player One," "Napoleon Dynamite," "Willow," and "Whiplash" all more.

Byrd N. Hand

Good call, John. "The Rutles: All You Need Is Cash" was pretty much the first true mockumentary, beating "This Is Spinal Tap" by 6 years (though it was made-for-TV).

Byrd N. Hand

Is this going to be another one of those polls where the majority of titles are ones I like but one that I don't care about at all ends up breaking through and winning? 😒 "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" just isn't my kind of humor; "Napoleon Dynamite," on the other hand, *is.*

Mastervodo

Such a good line up! Ready Player One is a great movie, and for us nerds, iconic since we get most of the Easter Eggs. Willow is classic epic fantasy, much like Lord of the Rings. 40 Year Old Virgin is just funny, but maybe not everyone's cuppa. Whiplash is good in it's own right, but very much seems in the poll "one of these things is not like the other". It's INTENSE, and while well done, gives a very very cringey aftertaste.

Mastervodo

Not necessarily surprised it is last. It's tone is very stressful.

Happy Hanukkah

I am so depressed by the poor showing of Kung Fu Hustle that ... I'll patiently wait for the next poll. :-/ (And yes, this is a pretty good lineup.)

Byrd N. Hand

*its. *It's* is a contraction of it is/it has; *its* is the gender-neutral third person singular possessive pronoun. 🤓 "Whiplash" may be intense, but I'd also consider it exhilarating; easily one of my 10 favorite films from the 2010's. I consider "Ready Player One" Steven Spielberg's best 'crowd-pleaser' film since "Last Crusade." "Willow" is one of the more underrated '80s kiddie fantasies (I'm hoping Jen also reacts to the "Hobbit" trilogy one of these days -- providing it's the extended cuts as with LOTR). The older I've gotten, the more I prefer the subtler/drier/more deadpan humor as presented in "Napoleon Dynamite" over the broader/more lowbrow/in-your-face 'humor' of "The 40-Year-Old Virgin;" I think the part I laughed the loudest at in the latter is (very mild spoiler) when Andy goes through the sign on his bike... and I feel it was more because it reminded me of a very similar bit in "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure." 🤔

Todd Rush

Man I just recently got a new renewed love for Napoleon Dynamite. It is so damn good.

Mastervodo

I am really hoping Jen does the Hobbit trilogy as well! Been too long since her LOTR reactions. Don't suppose you ever read the books the Willow was based on?

Opti_Frog

Willow was written by Bob Dolman from a story by George Lucas. The fantasy setting might be inspired by LOTR, but it's not based specifically on any existing IP.

Opti_Frog

I would have preferred Almost Famous or Napoleon Dynamite, but i'd much rather watch a reaction to The 40 Year Old Virgin than 'Member This?: The Movie.

Byrd N. Hand

Seeing as Jen had seen the LOTR movies back when they first came out in theaters, I was hoping she might've watched the "Hobbit" movies first (as long as they were the extended cuts), given that Tolkien actually wrote The Hobbit first, and LOTR wouldn't exist without it, since his publishers wanted another Hobbit-centric story rather than what he'd already written for The Silmarillion. 🤷‍♂️

Jerrod Acree

How in the freakin world!!!! Did you get so many classics on one poll! Watch them all!!!!!!

Summer

Make sure you look through the request site everyone, chances are something you think Jen should see are there to vote on, if not request it

Patrick

Napolean Dynamite is one of my all-time faves. Lots of good options. Man on Fire rules and Kung-Fu Hustle is great too. RPO can eat my ass though.

Patrick

It's nigh on perfect.

Bammer

I was hoping Man On Fire would have a lot more votes.

Jeff Franz

Agreed. I am shocked Jen hasn't seen it yet.

Byrd N. Hand

And I'd rather watch her react to a movie I find hilarious over one I particularly don't, regardless of any nostalgia that may come with it. 🤷‍♂️

Jason Scade

Some very good films here. My 1st pick would be Man On Fire, it's from the director Tony Scott (RIP). He did True Romance, Top Gun, Enemy of the State, Crimson Tide, Spy Game (Pitt & Redford), Days of Thunder, Unstoppable, etc. And 'The Last Boy Scout', this is Bruce Willis' 'Lethal Weapon'. Must-see 80's action-buddy-thriller. 2nd choice would be Whiplash. It's essential viewing for anyone with an interest in music and/or playing music.

Patrick

... and whislt they're there people should vote for Arrested Development!

Byrd N. Hand

Call me a square, but, outside of "True Romance" (mostly because Quentin Tarantino wrote the script), I find most of Tony Scott's films rather generic. He just never had the versatility of his big brother Ridley (though I'd say he himself has also become a bit of a hack over the last several years). 🤔

Jason Scade

Champers for Kirsten and beers for Patrick. 🥂🍻 Idk what the best USA sitcom of all time is, for me, it's a tie with Arrested Development and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Jason Scade

Then Gervais & Merchant's 'Life's Too Short'. ♥

Alexis Vorian

My votes go for Willow, such an 80s classic. And Whiplash, great movie. I don't care for 40 year old virgin, Steve Carell is capable of so much more.

Samuel Simpson

Willow and Napoleon Dynamite best on the list by far.

Mannygogou

I voted for all but 1 title but they're all good. I would watch.

Noremac

Not a very good list this week. The only movie I like here is Whiplash, which is fantastic.

Jason Scade

Are you a single movie person? (Whiplash paraphrase) :P

Jason Scade

Man on Fire is pretty powerful and moving. It's a Shawshank about personal demons.

Clay F

My top two are Almost Famous and 40-Year Old Virgin (glad it's winning). Both excellent. I love Almost Famous -- watched a zillion times. I also voted Whiplash (currently tied for last place). Willow is a kids movie (Val Kilmer is good). God help you if you watch Willow w/o nostalgia. The three I voted for: 1. Almost Famous 2. 40-Year Old Virgin 3. Whiplash

Clay F

My top Tony Scott movies are Crimson Tide, True Romance, and Unstoppable.

Timo Turunen

Please never watch any of those turds.

Jason Scade

Robert De Niro and Nine Inch Nails? 👍👍 It's an uneasy movie to sit through though. De Niro does his psychotic stalker routine. 😬

Jason Scade

Man on Fire, Whiplash, Napoleon Dynamite and Almost Famous are most certainly not turds! Willow may not be for everybody, but in it's genre, it's certainly a at least minor classic and is largely very beloved. Man on Fire takes you up, takes you down, makes you cry, has some excellent action set pieces, is unexpectedly emotional and touching, haunted people face their demons, it has lots of tension and unpredictability, takes you up, makes you cry again. What more do you want in a film, bro? :) Tell me some titles you'd really want to see in a poll, please? It's surprising that there isn't a single film there you like or want to see Jen do. Also, 36 other people feel the same. I'm not remotely into jazz music at all but Whiplash is so good, and engaging from the very first opening minutes, not only was I hooked from the start, I ended up *loving* the jazz music played at the school and concerts. Very especially the track itself called 'Whiplash'. When that film was newly released, I watched it 3 times in a week, which I very rarely do with any film. If anyone hasn't seen it and doesn't mind a 5 min, non-spoiling clip, this is a jaw dropping, attention getting scene. Context; new 1st year students are in class at the daunting & most prestigious music academy in NYC, their (well respected) professor of music is deeply passionate about the art and about striving for perfection from his pupils but he also has Ramsay like explosive temper and even becomes abusive! This is a very famous clip, once seen, never forgotten. "Am I rushing or dragging?" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9ilXLsz0KE&t=1s

Jason Scade

I didn't get around to seeing Almost Famous but I heard lots of good reviews about it, it was a good seller. I saw 40 yoV when it was new, I remember enjoying but can't recall any scenes apart from the chest hair removal scene. :'D Whiplash is pure class with a grip! Speaking of Willow. Did you ever see Warwick Davies' mega cringe sitcom 'Life's Too Short'? It's by Merchant & Gervais. It's a mockumentary, Warwick Davies plays a (dickish) fictionalized version of himself, as he sets about trying to get himself and his fading career back into movies, or even TV. The social cringe and awkward/embarrassing situations that come up are toe-curling but also incredibly funny. Each ep has a big star doing a guest cameo in 1 ep and in the initial ep, it's Liam Neeson, it's one of the funniest things I've ever seen. ♥😂 Liam Neeson on Life's too Short (Gervais & Merchant) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqA577_IoBk

Samuel Simpson

I haven't seen that one yet I'll give it a watch.
