Last week's Poll Winner and this one was so fun and heart warming!! John Candy was lovable and charismatic as always and you know how much I love teamwork! I was cheering the boys along and now I'm soooo curious about the actual true story

The more I see John Candy movies the more I miss him. What a great actor, he’s truly missed.

I had this one memorized on VHS growing up! 😆 Also one of the first movies I saw in theaters. For more winter sports 90's movies, checkout The Cutting Edge and The Mighty Ducks. ⛸🏒

Best Olympics EVER. Jamaican bobsledders, Eddie the Eagle and Elizabeth Manly won our hearts.

I forget how much I love John Candy until I see a John Candy movie! I'd love to see more!

"The Gipper" is a reference to none other than Ronald Reagan. He played George Gipp, a Notre Dame football player, in the 1940 movie "Knute Rockne, All-American". His character was on his deathbed for the final game when the coach rallied the team with the phrase, "Win one for the Gipper". It's been a motivating cry ever since.

Joel

The biggest thing that was wrong about this movie was the concept of this anti-Jamaican sentiment, IRL, in today's terms, they were the viral superstars of that Olympics

Erik Lundmark

Haven't seen this since ~1998; I know it's gonna be awesome!

thomas king

Love this movie. So much fun

Jonas

George Gipp was a real person, as was Knute Rockne. That film was based on a true story just like this one. According to Knute Rockne, "Win one for the Gipper" was something George Gipp really said when he visited him in the hospital as he was dying of strep throat and pneumonia.

HeWhoLooksSkyward

Which was then parodied by Leslie Nielsen in "Airplane!" when he said, "Win one for the Zipper"... though to be fair, I suspect "Knute Rockne" was about as accurate as "Cool Runnings" when it comes to authenticity. They're movies, not documentaries.

Aaron Thorpe

Such fond memories of seeing this move as a kid. It was one of our faves. I remember seeing it at the cinema and there was a technical issue - the film strip snapped half way through! We had to wait for like half an hour while they fixed it (felt like forever!) and then we watched the second half!

Harvey Lee

Airplane , the Father of parody movies spoofs that scene using the name George Zip Just so they could use the line "Tell them to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Zipper 〽️😂

Daryl Temple

Actually the biggest thing wrong about this movie is thinking you can get from Canada Olympic Park to the revolving restaurant at the Calgary Tower in just ten minutes 😂😂

Kaitlin Lott

Some of that footage of the crash is from the real crash. So hard to watch but such a great movie!
