Keep up the great work, Jen. You're cranking out content like a madwoman and it's always quality entertainment. 😁

Rob Nichols

Meridian, when DS9 ripped off Brigadoon.

WinkNudgeNudge

Nice! I was getting pretty itchy for your upload! Haha. Any idea if you're also going to pick up Voyager, yet?

SirJohnCard

Attention Bajoran Workers: Civil Defense is a fun episode

Curran Dobbs

Btw, you should check out the Honest Trailer for Star Trek: The Next Generation now that you're finished it.

William Rosmer

I think at the point they're killing all the bajoran workers, they assumed all the cardassians were either dead or captured and so they were going to kill everyone.

Ian

Quark shenanigans on next Jen Sunday 🖖 sounds great to me 🙂 make it so !

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

Not only is Civil Defense fun and action-y the acting and dialogue are great as well. J's favourite moment was Dukat getting his comeuppance. Mine is Kira's straightening up to silently stare Dukat down when he tries to call her bluff re blowing up the station. Not to mention the Dukat/Garak convos. And 2x "In the vents!" Meridian is such a neat story idea in theory, there's just no "there" there. I always hesitate to call any episodes in my favourite series bad but it it is...bleh? Upsides 1) JF's directing, always great 2) We get to spend more time on the Defiant so that's always fun. 3) The goodbye between Dax and Sisko is a nice scene 4) The guest star playing Teron is very good at acting creepy. It's all the mouth movement.

William Rosmer

we like the actor but not this sleezeball character.

Marcus Hicks

Talk about highs and lows this week. Civil Defense is-IMHO-one of the best episodes in Season 3 (despite strong competition), whereas I feel Meridian is easily the worst of Season 3.

William Rosmer

I honestly feel like Meredian shows the Federation poking the bear with the Dominion. They've said "stay on your side" and the Federation is still going across to do research. It seems a bit more antagonistic than usual.

Banes

Rewatching Meridian a few weeks ago, it wasn't as horrendous as I remembered. Still probably sits as the worst of season three. And that guy was an absolute creep and up to absolutely creepy stuff. Great actor, Jeffrey Combs...and he plays creeps and slimeballs very well, haha.

Banes

Civil Defense - A good one! Bringing in Garak and then Dukat really elevates it. And it's cool that they used the history of the station to create this Disaster-type story.

Zapp Rowsdower

Hi, Jen. I wanted to add the tv series Land of the Lost (1974-1976) to your requests site, but all that shows up when I type it in is the 2009 movie. I really think you'd like the show. It had the involvement of Star Trek writers, so it had a lot of cool stories. I wasn't alive yet when it aired on Saturday mornings in the 70s, and had never seen a single episode until only recently. Next thing I knew, I watched all 3 seasons and was surprised at how much I liked it. Catchy opening and closing theme songs, too.

John DiGiantomasso

I read an article where a company is creating AI representations of dead people using photos, videos, and voice recordings. They are pitching "let children talk to their deceased grandparents." I find that extremely disturbing.

William Rosmer

at some point it's going to be lets use ai to recrate dead actors in their prime for commercials or to do new movies.

Sykonee

Always loved Sisko's little "I can't believe that shit worked!" reaction at the end of 'Civil Defense'. Wonder how much of it was Brooks improvising. 'Meridian' is the worst episode of the whole series for me (yes, even worse than *those* ones). The lame love story, gobbledygook sci-fantasy, and (honestly well acted) wasted emotional goodbyes of the A-plot is tedious enough, but then you throw in the ultra-cringey B-plot. I get they were trying to go for classic 'hi-jinks' or whatever, but as you said, now living in a time of pervy A.I. deepfakes, just renders the whole thing down to an extra level of ick. Doesn't help that Combs so perfectly played such a despicable creep either.

Desmond

Man, a red shirt got vaporized in Civil Defense. Reminded me of TOS. I do find it a little hard to believe that Starfleet scans never once in 3 years picked up the presence of lethal Cardassian nerve gas on the station, but overall, a fun episode.

Julian San

Okay, I just have to ask: what cough drops does Jen take and are they as scrum-diddily-umptious as they sound?? 🤣

Joel

Why would it have to have stockpiles of gas? It replicated the phaser node in Ops, I don't see any reason it couldn't have made the gas on demand.

Summer

Love Civil Defense, Meridian is great for a reason I won’t elucidate now, but one good moment of Dax and Sisko saying goodbye can make people see these people care about each other and would miss each other

Nate Gavin

Your initial discomfort (like mine) with Quark at the start of season 1 has been slowly shifting to the opposite direction. And they don't hide from flaws either! DS9 writing and actors/actresses have done a fine job in surpassing and confounding expectations over the seasons. Still more things to discover in the upcoming episodes and seasons!

Ian

Enjoyed both reactions as always however I feel like civil defense could easily have been a two parter it had a lot of potential, it was good don't get me wrong and I liked it , it just felt rather rushed at the end and felt more like an edited version to me , the moment dukat energizes aboard would have been a great point for a cliffhanger. still good though . Meridian was so-so if I'm reading the episode correctly Kira and odo put quarks head on Kira's body in the holosuite program that's why quark seemed surprised the guy wasn't happy, the whole thing was creepy though I'm with Jen on that one . Generations next week safe to say a Vulcan ton of us are excited for that . Make it so 🖖

Laura Thornley

I love Civil Defense. Its a fun episode.

Opti_Frog

Dukat's outraged reaction when Garak needles him about Kira is a DS9 golden moment. 😄 Meridian isn't a particularly strong episode, but i don't think its' bad. Once again, DS9 thinks things through a little further than TNG, this time regarding the ethics of holodecks. Jeffrey Combs is great at playing creepy and devious characters, and Quark's head on Major Kira's body is an unforgettable image. 😅

Opti_Frog

They already did that in another space franchise.

Summer

It is too bad you had to watch Meridian after Civil Defense, Civil Defense gives so much fun. You will like the next few weeks when DS9 returns some heavy but great episodes

TC Green

I love Jadzia, she is my favorite character from the main cast. Meridian might be the dumbest episode focused on her. I’m supposed to believe that this brilliant woman with centuries of experience would make such a rash decision because she fell in love with a man she met five minutes ago? Come on.

jon bolton

Civil Defence is one of my favourites of the Season. I look forward to next week, Generations is my second favourite of the movies after The Undiscovered Country.

Summer

I wonder if Meridian was supposed to be an earlier episode and they added the beginning monologue to make it fit, it feels season one or early season 2

Major Peril

You'll need to add this to the request site yourself. Use IMDB ID code 'tt0071005' when prompted during the add process.

Desmond

Well, it replicated the phaser...IN A REPLICATOR. If there were replicators hidden throughout the station, just ready to produce lethal gases...again, I feel like Starfleet would have detected them. It's a minor issue, and for an episode like this, I understand you gotta suspend your disbelief a little bit.

Zapp Rowsdower

Thanks. I figured it out after a while. I feel silly because I've entered a new request before but forgot how I did it.

Jen Murray

I've decided to finish out DS9 and then look at Voyager 👍

ParallaxNick

Tiron (the skeevy alien) is played by Jeffrey Combs, who will get to know much better over the course of the show.

ParallaxNick

It's very likely that life support replicates the oxygen and de-replicates the co2 in the air. It's not like they have a hydroponics bay. So the program just orders life-support to replicate the gas.

Sykonee

I sort of get the sense that, after the Dominion's big ol' show of force at the end of S2, they really hadn't done much of anything since. No big invasion fleet showed up, mostly staying wherever their space was in the Gamma Quadrant. After a few months of relative silence, I could see the Federation getting complacent again, thinking so long as the Dominion stayed in their area of the Gamma, they could still explore other areas opposite that direction. After all, such tactics generally worked in their favor with other major powers in their side of the galaxy.

Desmond

Why would a life support system be capable of making lethal gases? That's kinda the opposite of "life support". I mean, maybe the Cardassians would think of something twisted like that...but again, the whole point is why has Starfleet not noticed this in three years?

Bobby Coolbreeze

These 2 episodes for me were filler They weren’t bad. Some more character development for crew, Dukat and Garak. We get to see more of Kira and Odo friendship grow. I felt bad for Jadzia, love and heartbreak sucks

Bobby Coolbreeze

Even though you are watching in air date order the next few DS9 episodes take place star date wise before the first TNG movie. I was hoping you would at least watch the next DS9 episode right before the movie.

Desmond

Yeah, it definitely feels like Starfleet thinks they're entitled to just go and explore wherever they want, even when the Dominion has made clear they don't want them in the Gamma quadrant.

Sleeper

I like the first one of this pair, more of a classic star trek character story with lots of good little character development moments. I'm not a fan of the 2nd episode as Jadzia has been this strong willed person for most of the show so far and for to fall for some random guy in a day to where she would throw away her life for him... it just doesn't seem to fit with the character.

Curran Dobbs

When Dukat spends several minutes smugly enjoying the situation and then suddenly finding out he's as screwed as everyone else reminds me of a scene in an episode of Red Dwarf called Demons and Angels...

Fr. Brench

Yeah that's a story that belongs in season one, if anywhere.

Kevin Sommerfield

Entire cast in Civil Defense? - What about Rom and Nog!!!?? Just kidding, I think this is a great episode - but look for more Rom and Nog in the future! Thanks for watching!

Kevin Sommerfield

The only justification for the Dax story in my opinion would be if Dax was doing it to experience life as pure consciousness - we know Trill symbionts like to have a large range of experiences. However, Jadzia is shown as just being gaga about this guy she just met, and I agree that that seems very unlikely.

Summer

Made requests on the request site Happy Days, a diva’s Christmas carol and Golden Girls, if anyone wants to request Mr Ed, the A Team and such I will vote for your additions (original A team)

Lintrinsic

I've added the A-Team. I don't hold out much hope but I'd love someone to react to it. I've only found one or two clip compilation reactions from people with no idea what's going on.

Summer

Have not seen the original since I was really small so itwould be neat tosee it basically new

Lintrinsic

I did a rewatch a couple of years ago. It's aged much better than I expected, but some of the disguises... 😬

SetsunaYuki

So in the near future, Generations should be coming up?

Ian

Yes this week 👍

Verteron

Did something change with how these are watched? I've noticed the last couple weeks I've had trouble with the sync. I have to pause every couple of minutes. I'm watching on Paramount plus and have been watching since about midway through TNG, it's just been the last couple weeks that I've been having sync issues. I've been enjoying the watch through, but it's getting a bit annoying trying to keep it synced up. Hopefully I'm not doing something dumb on my end.

Slate

Hello, fellow smeghead! Boys from the Dwarf! :D

Curran Dobbs

"Okay homeboys, let's posse!" :D

Jen Murray

I haven't changed anything on my end. Is anyone else having issues?

Jen Murray

I'm just following airdate order? 🤷‍♀️ Is that not correct?

Bobby Coolbreeze

I’ve been experiencing the same thing. Just by a second or two? Your “ Commercial break “ is shorter🤷‍♂️

Bobby Coolbreeze

No you are fine. It’s just the next DS9 episode, season 3 episode 9 would make more sense if you saw it before the 1st TNG movie. I don’t want to spoil you lol but it’s it kinda relevant with an Easter egg in a really small way. You may figure it out if you watch after lol

Jen Murray

I dont adjust the commercial length, it's just the same way I've been watching it all along. I've heard there are issues with streaming sites lagging

Jen Murray

Oh thats disappointing. I thought watching in airdate order would mean I'd understand everything

Bobby Coolbreeze

It’s not a big deal The movie was released the same week as the episode. So if you saw it opening night like us older folks you saw the episode afterwards lol. Just a minor detail. Keep doing it the way you are doing it. But if you ask me I would had them release the episode the week before lol

Joshua Maley

Ohhhh, man. I forgot about that. It truly is a very minor detail but really good catch. I think by the halfway point in the episode it becomes moot though. I don't know if I kept up with DS9 week to week back then. I did see Generations opening night though, was in line for 2 hours. It was a great crowd! One of the first big event movies I remember. I still have my ticket from that night tucked into a photo album along with some trading cards relevant to the movie. But I digress - Jen, it'll click after you've seen them both, but it really isn't a big deal.

Bobby Coolbreeze

Either way still enjoy your reactions and looking forward to a whole lot more Star Trek!

Summer

Amazon video in general and paramount plus has been having a lot of freezing and skipping issues don’t know why, might switch to my dvds better than paramount

Curran Dobbs

I caught Jen's video buffering at least once or twice. Usually it's fine but maybe that could be throwing off the sync.

Verteron

It seems like it's during the commercial breaks and the intro. The transitions are just slightly out of sync. I think I first noticed it during All Good Things.. Probably just some weird Canadian commercial glitch. Lol.

Carlos Stevens

Verteron, I've been having the exact same problem. I was thinking it was because Jen got her video from a different source other than Paramount, but if she's watching on Paramount, then there is something else going on.

Carlos Stevens

there is now wrong answer to that question. Just do your thing Homie.

Brian Onderdonk

Definitely the commercial length, I can see the scene flashing through the blur, they stay exactly in sync for me up until the usual commercial break point, then the reaction video is a few seconds ahead. Probably just a difference between country versions, either through Paramount+ or the difference between DVD/streaming.

Ootlander

Not sure if anyone else mentioned it, but Meridian is the first episode for Jeffrey Combs, who goes on to play many characters in Star Trek.
