Grosse Pointe Blank got 209 votes I think, lost by one vote to I-Robot 😕. Still, a good selection

Jen Murray

Just from recent polls I have done since August. Grosse was back in April. Don't worry, it's still on the list!

Mastervodo

I really hope they do a sequel to D&D someday. Great, solid movie and story. Funny. Very well done movie. Labyrinth is such a fantastic movie as well. Young and always beautiful Jennifer Connelly.

Jake McNulty

A lot of good films here! I'm going with "Labyrinth", "Meaning of Life", "In the Line of Fire", "Hook", "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" and "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure"

Curran Dobbs

Grosse Point Break is hilarious (an action/rom-com). I was surprised when I double checked if it was available on streamers that it was rated R. I would have thought that PG-13 would be obvious. I guess the violence and language is bad enough to push the rating up. Also, I learned from the Stephen King movie The Monkey that you can keep a 14A rating from going to an R rating if the shots of excessive gore are really quick.

J. Tuna Ferrari Vineyard

Pee-Wee's Big Adventure - you will definitely love that one!!✌️ Napoleon Dynamite is the sameish vibe and a lot of fun! And as an 80s kid I GOTTA vote for those "Heroes in a Half Shell"!!

Brando83

This is solid batch - based on the ones I've seen. I voted for about half of them.

mikethemotormouth

Seeing a lot of must sees from my childhood and yes I'm including Monty Python

Byrd N. Hand

If it has more than 1 F-bomb in it, it's an automatic R rating -- a rather absurd rule that mostly came about in the '90s when the rating system started getting more noticeably conservative. 🙄

mikethemotormouth

I thought HAT was the sequel? Or a reboot at least

Byrd N. Hand

@J. Tuna -- I'm sure he wishes you'd ask him about his music...

Byrd N. Hand

How about strategically forcing like a 5-way tie, y'all?

Curran Dobbs

TMNT is great but also an example of how filmmakers in the 80s and 90s weren't anticipating movies having their resolution enhanced. Just try not to look to closely to the inside of Donatello's mouth unless you watch, like, a VHS copy.

Summer

Labarynth would be neat

Curran Dobbs

Monty Python's Meaning of Life is probably one of the most extremely "hit and miss" of their movie collection. Some of the sketches make me wonder what the heck they were thinking but the better sketches in the movie are absolutely brilliant and more than make up for the duds. Fun Fact: Auto-correct changed "duds" into "dude". Not sure if I should have fixed it...

deskmerc

Oh god, Stripes. It was one of the movies I watched the day before I reported in to basic training. The other movie i watched was Full metal Jacket.

Curran Dobbs

Ah. Fair enough. Granted, like when Scotty told Geordie that it's always good to err a wee bit conservative when writing engineering manuals, if I were rating movies, I'd probably err on the side of caution too... but not to the "pointe" of making Gross Pointe Break rated R.

Jack

Dungeons & Dragons was so underrated - I would watch your reaction to that movie several times over!

Curran Dobbs

Heh. Yeah. I mean, I don't see that particular one being one of Jen's favorites but I've been wrong before.

Jason Scade

Croc and Clint all the way.

John DiGiantomasso

Pee Wee is not only a great movie, you gotta see (and hear) the super-early work of Tim Burton and Danny Elfman. You can already see (and hear) who they were going to grow into!

Wilhelm

Vote for Pedro

Curran Dobbs

Heh. That song is one of my favorites (actually, the other song from the movie I'm thinking of is a banger too).

Gary Poussard

Croc Dundee and Stripes please :)

John Armbruster

Hard to believe none of these have been picked so far

Rob Nichols

I was so happy that Stripes was a runner up, didn't realize it would go through a second poll where it's now in fourth place. Oh well, many good ones here with Croc in the lead.

Opti_Frog

Really only interested in Napoleon Dynamite.

scott osborne

i voted for hook , TMNT , croc dundee , labyrinth , D&D honor among thieves , strips , in the line of fire i did not vote for monty python the meaning of life will make her sick , pee wee , napoleon dynamite

Samuel Simpson

Most of these are good so most got voted for.

Patrick

Pleased to see Napolean Dynamite make a push in the poll since I last looked!

Summer

Noremac

I hope Pee-Wee wins!

Byrd N. Hand

Voted for Pedro (and Napoleon) to hopefully overtake "Hook," which I consider Spielberg's weakest film (though I haven't seen "Always" or "West Side Story").

Curran Dobbs

??? Didn't say that. I speculated that a specific sketch in Monty Python's Meaning of Life wouldn't be her favorite...

William Rosmer

a weak spielberg film is still pretty good

Curran Dobbs

Ah. I thought you were just misunderstanding what I was saying.

Byrd N. Hand

Admittedly, "Hook" came out at an awkward time in my life; I was 13 and, thus, starting to lose interest in more kiddie-oriented films... largely why I haven't had any interest in revisiting it since then (I haven't seen "Always" since then also because I've heard it's just as schmaltzy, if not more so 🤷‍♂️). Even "1941," "Temple of Doom," "Lost World," and "Crystal Skull" I found less objectionable than that one.

Byrd N. Hand

Personally, I still don't see how hearing the word 'fuck' more than once in a movie is going to suddenly corrupt a child, how much blood is seen in a movie (particularly when it's clearly stylized, as in the case of "Kill Bill") suddenly makes it more violent, or how seeing full-frontal nudity suddenly makes a movie more sexual (even if it's shown in a non-sexual context). It all just feels very abritrary to me, and frankly feels more like subtle censorship than anything else. 🤷‍♂️ It should be noted that in Canada the "Matrix" movies are rated 14A (their equivalent of our PG-13), whereas they're rated R here (their equivalent being 18A, whereas their R is more equivalent to our NC-17... which Americans continually associate more with porn, just like the X rating it attempted to replace 🙄).

Byrd N. Hand

... or you didn't grow up in the '80s. 🤷‍♂️

Alexis Vorian

I'm a gen X, i grew up in the 80s and never heard of Pee Wee. I'm guessing it's a very american character.

Milton Reduxed

Hook coming from behind in the final hours!

Analytical Guy

That's a bad as close as a vote could go. If one of the voters accidentally clicked Hook when he meant to click Crocodile Dundee, he must be kicking himself right now.

Andrew

Hook over Pee-Wee? Who are you people?!
