Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

I suspect that we all had a feeling that Visionary was going to right up your alley, J. It's been a long time since I've seen either of these. I'm curious how I'm going to react. My gut says it's going to be another one of those "I enjoyed those more than I remember" situations.

MattN

I know I don't comment on these as much but this seriously is the highlight of my week every week

TC Green

Visionary is really well done. And continues the “O’Brien Must Suffer” trend started in season 2.

Julian San

Soooo, looks like Star Trek on Netflix is done. Anyone have any streaming suggestions, not named Paramount+?

Kristin

Buy the discs off ebay.

Mayan Luevano

Can't wait for next week, one of my favorite episodes in all of DS9 is coming up 'Improbable Cause'.

Senzu Bean

Im in the same boat. I downloaded the ai upscaled seasons. They line up well with the full reaction.

Senzu Bean

Just a few more weeks before we can see Jen enjoy one of the most epic episodes in Star Trek. Till then, we're spoiled with a few good-to-amazing episodes. Personally, Im looking forward to E20 Improbable Cause and E21 The Die is cast.

Laura Thornley

There's honestly only a handful of episodes left in the whole show that I don't consider great. Once DS9 gets itself together it keeps on hitting aces.

Summer

I am itching for those too

Summer

These two are such great episodes

jon bolton

Visionary, my favourite of the Season, what a surprise it just happens to be an O'Brien must suffer one😂

Summer

Distant voices is great too, we see so much more in Bashir, this is about the time I started liking him. Though I will point out in a Star Trek future it should be 80 not 30 that people see that way

Andrew Roach

Now that Star Trek is done on Netflix I just signed up for Paramount + thru the Canadian Amazon Prime and lo and behold they have the next two episodes in the wrong order. They show Improbable Cause next and then Through the Looking Glass. Jen if your source lists the episodes this same way it is wrong, next is Looking Glass then Cause.

Opti_Frog

There is a slight difference in how Jen interpreted Garak's final line in Distant Voices and how i interpret it. Rather than Garak saying "You're right not to trust me," i think he means "That is the correct mindset to have." Perhaps the difference is so subtle that it doesn't really matter. What do i know?

Opti_Frog

Well, O'Brien must suffer. 😋

Summer

Season 3 is one of my favorite seasons, then season 5. So many are talking about netflix axing their Trek, here in the States I never got Trek on netflix. Since 2017 I do mainly watch Trek on amazon, recently I even bought season 2 and 3 of DS9 to stream. My biggest issue with streaming though there are many, is if I want to watch Schisms randomly on halloween it will show me being in season 6 of TNG. I am considering going back to my DVDs since I do have all Voyager, all DS9 and all TNG on DVD and have acess to Enterprise on DVD too. The main issue with that is obviously that you have to switch to dvd and switch disks, also if your dvd player goes dead as mine often do. But with DS9 and Voyager it can be worth just watching on DVD. Have not actually noticed an improvement between streaming and dvd with TNG or the original series either. Just some thoughts. Though everyone who has lost access to star trek through netflix cancel your subscription for at least a few weeks and make it clear why, I prefer amazon to Netflix anyway

Summer

I hate temporal mechanics

Henchman Twenty1

I know how the good doctor felt. When I was turning 30 I was totally depressed and bummed out. I just felt like I couldn't be considered a "young" adult anymore. When I reached 40 it didn't bother me as much and when I hit the big 5-0 I didn't care anymore. I just turned 60 last week... 60?! WTF?! Also, at the beginning of Visionary the medicine that Bashir says he's going to give to the Chief (Hyronalin) was from an original series episode where it was mentioned as a standard treatment for radiation exposure. I love it when they do this and happy when my inner geek catches it.

Sykonee

You know it's an "O'Brien Must Suffer" episode when it literally starts with him suffering on the floor. Getting right to it!

Desmond

Nice catch, I love that stuff too.

Desmond

I have all the DVDs; only problem is that my DS9 box sets are so old they're starting to fall apart. Guess they weren't meant to last decades lol

Desmond

It was honestly a lot better episode than I remembered. O'Brien must suffer is a trope, but it works for a reason. Colm Meany is the ultimate everyman on Trek. Lots of technobabble, but it all seemed pretty well thought out and well written. And always nice to see Klingons and Romulans in DS9.

Summer

Yeah have had mine a decade, considering getting the bluray of TNG though

Riley

If this has already been mentioned / discussed earlier and I've missed it, then my apologies, but will you be watching through Star Trek Voyager as well? Either interspersed with DS9 episodes like TNG, or on its own after you finish DS9? I believe Voyager starts about halfway through DS9 Season 3 for context.

Summer

So far Jen plans to do Voyager after DS9 if there is interest so lets make sure there is interest

Bobby Coolbreeze

I felt like Bashir when I turned 30, 40 and 50.

BakaOppai

its pretty silly every time he goes for a trip a horrible thing happens. reality would be a lot more mundane. ridiculous plot on #17 heh

Bobby Coolbreeze

Looking back on the episode visionary. I feel they should have figured out the quantum singularity was coming from a Romulan warp core aboard the warbird sooner! It has been referenced several times TNG. Duh 🙄 i mean the Romulans are there! Still a good episode. O’Brien from the future replaces present O’Brien permanently is weird and Erie!

Bobby Coolbreeze

Garak is such a great character. Bashir’s relationship with Garak is so beneficial to his growth as a character.

John DiGiantomasso

Jen - something you may not know... You just saw Generations with Malcolm McDowell as the villain Dr. Soran. Did you know that McDowell is the uncle of Siddig El Fadil - our own Dr. Julian Bashir? By the way, in Season 4 he changes his screen name to Alexander Siddig. And, a non-spoiler teaser, that is not the ONLY change to the opening credits in Season 4. So pay close attention and be ready!!! 😏

John DiGiantomasso

Temporal mechanics allow potentially catastrophic damage to the timeline. There should be a law against mucking around with that stuff!

Sykonee

The original brittle-plastic ones? Yeah, they were flimsy even when new. (still has mine, mostly intact, fortunately)

Summer

Yes, got my DS9 12 years ago from amazon, TNG 2 and a half years earlier, the colors for different seasons of the TNG, they all feel fragile

ParallaxNick

I just want ot say Jen, you are over the hump. There are only two genuinely bad episodes of DS9 left, and they're both at the start of season 5. Other than that, it's straight up bangers from here to the finale.

Summer

Jen on YouTube everyone is asking about Voyager you might want to make a statement on one of your DS9 YouTube edits because my fellow Voyagerites are suddenly everywhere it occurs to me we Voyager fans don’t have a nickname like us DS9 Niner fans do

Ian

Jen's informed people on plenty of occasions already , it was the same before she started DS9. She wrote in the description back then what the plan was and it changed nothing people still kept asking if she was starting DS9 🤷 . Jen has mods to answer people on YouTube if needed so .....

Summer

People even argued about it, I thought I was one of the few who like Voyager but now everyone cares

Ian

Jen's trek reactions are so good it's no surprise people want her to continue as long as possible so asking for voyager is something we expected

Jen Murray

For those asking about Voyager: The plan is to watch Voyager after DS9 if there is enough interest. I like focusing on 1 show at a time unless there is enough reason to watch together because the stories overlap. There airdate order for the episodes also don't have a very good flow in my opinion, not 1 of each per week like with TNG and DS9. So sometimes it's 4-5 eps of Voyager or DS9 and none of the other. Which I don't personally like because I can lose steam/forget things on 1 show if I don't watch it for a few weeks.
