We're off to the magical realm of Gods in this one and I was dazzled by everything Asgard! Cool to see the origins of mighty Thor and then to see him humbled on Earth for a while. And to see the backstory of the trickster himself Loki! This one was really fun! And now super looking forward to the next Marvel - Captain America!

Ian

Thumbnail says it all 🙂 knew you'd love this one and I'm super looking forward to checking your reaction out over the weekend ⚡🍺🔥

Rob Nichols

I haven't seen most of the MCU so these watch alongs give me the perfect excuse to catch up.

Major Peril

You picked a good one to start. Thor and the first Captain America are still my favorites.

Rob Nichols

I've heard good things about them so looking forward to it.

Curran Dobbs

Coulson and the Dudes would be a good name for a band.

Harvey Lee

BY THOR'S HAMMER , i know this will be a thunderously great reaction JEN !!🔨❣️😄

Opti_Frog

Germany? 😅 It was a genius move to hire Kenneth Branagh to direct this film. Without his experience, talent and sensibilities this could have been a total cheesefest. Like Erik Selvig, i grew up with the stories of Norse mythology. I think that's why i like this movie so much. A perfect mix of Greek tragedy, cosmic fantasy and romance. Sadly, I feel it's a little under-loved by Marvel fans. And yes, four of the English (and Nordic) names of the days of the week have names from gods of Norse mythology: Tuesday - Tyr's day Wednesday - Woden/Odin's day Thursday - Thor's day Friday - Frigg's day

Jonathan D

Awesome reaction!!! "How dare you attack the son of Odin!"

Sean Ellingham

Son of Coul returns! In universe, the main events of The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2 and Thor all take place during the same week - in the scene towards the end of IM2 where Tony meets with Fury you can see some of the aftermath of both Thor and Incredible Hulk on the screens. You might want to react to the Marvel One Shots, which are short little extras that link into the films that were originally made for and released with the DVD/Blu-rays - AFAIK they are all on Disney+. There are five in all - the two that you can watch now are just a couple of minutes each: - The Consultant - set after Incredible Hulk - A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor's Hammer - set before Thor The remaining three all follow on from the next three films, one per film.

"Earth... the TOILET of the universe!" -- Jen. LMAO 😂

Mastervodo

Why did the God of Thunder need to stretch after his workout? He was a little Thor......

Mastervodo

By Grabthar's Hammer..... what a savings.

Mastervodo

Aha! I see what you did there!

Mastervodo

Ok ok ok... one more. Many women when they see Chris Hemsworth as the God of Thunder start to feel a bit ....... Thorny....

ah thor. the movie where captain kirk's dad falls in love with luke skywalker's mom odin took his powers, but he was nice enough to give him a way back if he earns it i always felt like he still had a small amount of super strength and durability since you're far enough in futurama to get this, the hammer weighs about as much as nibbler's poop which is why only those worthy can move it. the name donald blake was from the comics. he was thor/the human wielding the power of thor for the longest time. tony is busy with the end of iron man 2 at this point thor doesn't usually fly exactly. he throws the hammer and then holds onto it. loki wanted to kill laufie in a room with witnesses so he could make himself look better and to justify a genocide against the frost giants in general loki is weaker than thor physically but he is far smarter and has much better magic, and the spear is probably making the gap smaller. in actual mythology thor is married to sif. the movie is a bit unclear on if the asgardians are actually gods or if they're just aliens that ancient humans worshiped as gods and if that difference actually matters.

RobertC

I still like "The Lampshades"

Major Peril

An absolutely Thor-oughly entertaining movie! 😁 Glad you liked as much as I did in it's first run. Looking forward to your further enjoyment of the MCU!

Darryl Low

Really enjoyed watching Thor with you Jen. It is such an epic movie but with real heart as well. I'm definitely in the minority, but I think the second Thor movie is the best of them ha ha Looking forward to Captain America. That one is definitely my favourite of all the MCU movies. Can't wait to watch it with you 😊

Carlos Stevens

heh heh.. Yes.. Thor.. Norse "god"... But then the Hulk could whoop his arse.

Carlos Stevens

BTW, do you know that the root of the word "Thursday" is... "Thor's Day," and the root of the word Wednesday is "Oden's Day" (Woden's Day).

Brian Straight

Yeah, you're certainly in the minority there. (Though I liked it.) CA with you Jen is sure to be a fun one as well, the first run of Marvel "origin story" movies do pretty good in focusing on one of our central characters of the Avengers in feeling their stories, what drives them and what makes them a hero.

The Irish Buddhist

When looking into the world of Loki, just remember (in Norse mythology) he is known as The God of Mischief/the Trickster... that opens up a realm of possibilities on what his abilities can range from and whether his intentions are good/bad or just in it for himself.

Over50Gamer

That got a hearty laugh from me too

Over50Gamer

I very much enjoyed your reaction to this one, Jen! Good to see you're enjoying the Marvel-ous ride! Kinda related point: You've heard the Babylon 5 series bandied about by several members, me included. Well, that whole series was conceived by none other than the writer of this movie, J. Michael Straczynski. It's a worthy watch whenever you're up for another sci-fi series. ;-)

Chris Biebel

BTW, in the actual Norse mythology (not the Marvel version, obviously), there are two things about Sif (who is the female warrior) that are different from this version. First, she was the wife of Thor. Second, she was known for her golden hair. There are some really wild stories from the original Norse mythology and Loki isn't always painted as a bad guy (he's a trickster god, which means he's more an agent of chaos, but he's also one of the smartest gods there, so sometimes they need his cleverness to solve problems that they have). There's one story in the original Norse mythology where Mjolnir was stolen by a giant and the giant demands to be wedded to the goddess Freya in return for the hammer. However, instead Loki shows up with Thor dressed in drag pretending to be Freya (I'm not sure, but I think Loki also dressed as a woman to disguise himself as "Freya's" handmaiden). When the giant brought Mjolnir out to bless "Freya" , Thor took it and basically killed them all.

Jason Scade

"A wise king never seeks out war, but he must be ready for it." Tout Prest. Superb reaction and fab MCU entry. I enjoyed this tons in 2011. Good action and fish-out-of-water hilarity. 😂 This was directed by Kenneth Branagh. His cinema released 'Henry V' (1989) is absolutely unmissable! It's like Braveheart for the English. Synopsis: Young King of England, Henry V, sallies forth into France with a very small army, to lay legitimate legal claims upon the land. Outnumbered 100s / 1000s to 1. Stellar cast of the the finest actors and Pvt.Ryan-esque emotional speeches and battle scenes. It receives a 100% rating score from me. Long live the King! ♥ Btw, Shakespeare's Henry V is where the phrase 'band of brothers' comes from. The movie is scored by Patrick Doyle and it's epic, up there with the best of Zimmer, Goldsmith, etc. Doyle has scored dozens of movies, just some are; Carlito's Way, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Thor, Brave, Cinderella, Murder on the Orient Express (2017) and Death on the Nile (2021).

Revisiting this now, and holy cow, was this ever a ballsy movie to make. Like, they had to have total faith this Avengers things was gonna' work to dive this deep into the Cosmic Grand of the MCU after the first few movies were so grounded in the relative reality of our world (fantastical science marvels notwithstanding).
