Jen posting new full length reactions of DS9 is the highlight of my day and week 🔥🖖

TC Green

Odo and Garak are great together and the “You blew up your own shop, Garak!” moment is fantastic.

Banes

I love how the episode starts with Bashir and Garak and ends up being an Odo/Garak adventure. Great one!

Senzu Bean

Like the saying goes.. the plot thickens! It's also gratifying to see Garak getting the recognition he deserves. He undeservedly was the receiver of derogatory comments back then but is now celebrated as one of the iconic characters in the series for his layered, ambiguous nature. This was only enabled by his outstanding acting and the writers who gave him room to do his thing.

Curran Dobbs

Heh. The first time you called her Anti-Kira, I thought you said Aunty Kira.

Ian

Awesome 🖖 I really enjoyed our first visit to the mirror universe so super looking forward to this one 🔥🙂

Mr. Mike's Multiverse

Two subtle differences I don't believe Jen picked up in the Mirror universe. Mirror Sisko was a captain and DS9 was still in orbit of Bajor.

Senzu Bean

I have seen that episode many times and their interaction still gets me on the edge of my seat.

Julian San

So the Obsidian Order were building an invasion fleet (along with the Romulan Tal Shiar). That was the secret speculated about in the previous 9th episode, Defiant. Trust me, the week long wait will be worth it for what happens next.

Sykonee

I always forget Brooks directed 'Improbable Cause', but given some of the bangers he's already directed to this point (and will again!), I'm not surprised.

Matthew Hammond

Did you catch that Enabren Tain said the Obsidian Order had been building a fleet in the Orias System? That's the same system that Thomas Riker tried to take the Defiant into earlier this season.

Laura Thornley

Its a shame you watched Improbable Cause right after Through the Looking Glass because it completely overshadows it. Both are great episodes, but Improbable Cause being a stealth multi-parter with such a huge plot is so cruel!

Chris Biebel

This is one of my favorite 2 parters. I love how you keep mentioning how emotive Garak looks at various points. That's the acting of Andrew Robinson even under all those prosthetics.a Now you are starting to see what we meant when we said that DS9 was less episodic and how as it goes on, things that happen factor in later episodes. A few weeks ago when you said you were surprised that there was a peace treaty between Cardassia and Bajor because you thought that would be the main theme of the show, you didn't think that something else was lurking in the background... BTW, I bought the "All seasons of DS9" on DVD, but unfortunately this one and the next wouldn't play properly (Apparently, unlike the previous individual season DVDs from long ago, the newer release by Paramount often has errors in manufacturing). Two of my favorite episodes (and also the Civil Defense episode, a personal favorite) don't play properly! It total sucks!.

Desmond

On the rewatch, I'm impressed by the intensity and length of the phaser fire fight in Through the Looking Glass. They always used to count the phaser shots on Trek, just due to the cost of the effects.

Gábor Árki

Given that the series likely won't ever be remastered I was also entertaining the idea of purchasing the DVD set (and due to various technical reasons the region 1 NTSC is the best quality you can get the show in). However I was reading many such comments that the production quality of the re-released set is horrible. Aside form the terrible packaging many are reporting problems with discs skipping or outright unplayable in parts or entirely. Or sometimes even visibly rotten. Adding to all of that I've also seen many claims that the now available sets have been compressed into DVD5 discs from the original DVD9, reducing quality noticably.

Gábor Árki

Jen, a quick recommendation because season 4 is just around the corner. I suggest not watching the main title in 4x01 because it will spoil something early on. Which I hope no one spoiled so far. Instead, focus on the main theme.

Summer

Not a fan of the mirror universe but they arebetter with reactors. Improbable cause and the next are favorites

Ember_Atelier

I was just about to mention this! I hope Jen reads and takes this advice - maybe she should just look away entirely and just listen to the music. I predict she would love the episode though - I'm sure you know why.

Ember_Atelier

I wasn't a fan either. If they were standalone and didn't have characters travel between the mirror and regular universes I would have liked them a little more.

Tom Evans

Great episodes, and both of next week's eps are great too. The acting in these episodes was extra special. Nana Visitor always eats up every scene as "The Intendent," and Avery Brooks had a tricky task of playing our regular Sisko pretending to be mirror Sisko. Andrew Robinson (Garak) and the late great René Auberjonois (Odo) were a great acting pair up for "Improbable Cause" and we'll get more of that next week. The implications in "Through the Looking Glass" is that not only did Sisko sleep with mirror-Dax, he probably also had to sleep with mirror-Kira when he was taken to her quarters. What a hard day at the office for our commander. 😛 I imagine when he got back he left those minor details out of his official report. You made a great observation at the start of "Improbable Cause," about the cold open discussion of "Julius Caesar" being foreshadowing -- in the end the episode involves Garak's betrayal of his mentor Tain, so I think you were spot on.

Summer

DS9 is nortorious for not naming two parters together. Great reaction, sad you have to wait a few days for the next, the next 3 episodes are big. Big ones the end of the season, you will be in season 4 in early February better than certain sporting events here. I was sad when I realized the two episodes would be divided they are great. I have decided the theme is like a long term hostage taker, at first you hate it, then you become used to it, then you start to like it but wonder why, other series have more exciting themes, this one is good but so different. Next week might rewatch Improbable Cause for the 80th time before the next episode

jon bolton

Two more really good episodes. I always love to see Garak.

Bobby Coolbreeze

In the 1st DS9 Mirror episode “Crossover” at the end, Kira was asked where have you been? She said “Through the Looking Glass”

Bobby Coolbreeze

Sisko leaving Jennifer again was a gut punch!

Bobby Coolbreeze

We get another Garak episode and it’s a doozy and ramifications and consequences going forward hit light speed! This was not originally a 2 parter but there is so much going on the writers split it into two parts. I believe this is the only 2 parter (I forget) in ST that had 2 distinct episode titles or at least the first time it happened? Part 1 is crazy and I can’t wait till next week cause part 2 is nutz! No spoilers but from here on in the the series starts to get bonkers!

Bobby Coolbreeze

Hey everyone since we are getting closer to the Season 4, let’s all remind Jen to cover her eyes for season 4 premiere credits sequence lol I’m so looking forward to her reactions to this one lol She is the best reactor on you tube And no spoilers!

Squeesher

"Are you sure that's the point, Doctor?" 'Of course! What else could it be?' "That you should never tell the same lie twice." (and then in his head, "Idiot!")

Matt Poppell

There’s your answer on what the Obsidian Order was hiding when Thomas Riker stole the Defiant earlier in the season. This is why DS9 is great. It will thread plot lines together so naturally to add standalone episodes into the bigger narrative. And as others have said, I agree that you should cover the opening credits for S4E1 to avoid spoilers.

Nathan Cline

Season 2 opened with a 3 parter with seperate names. Going forward there are quite a few that directly flow without a part one and two. This kinda has a sequel 2 parter later that i believe has seperate names, and one where Sisko and Odo spend time debriefing on Earth

Steve Lloyd

Love the plot twists of the second episode.

Hok'Tar

Hey Jen. I agree. You shouldn't look at the opening credits for S4E1

Bobby Coolbreeze

Yes I forgot about those. DS9 has several 2 part episodes where they have different titles

Sean Ellingham

Ah, Garak - just a "simple tailor"... One who can spot a Flaxian arrive on DS9, immediately deduce that he's an assassin and then in the few hours between his arrival and having lunch with Bashir, not only set up a bomb to draw Odo into an investigation but construct that bomb using a rare component that other Flaxian assassins are known to use in their explosives (which Garak presumably happened to have laying around "just in case") thus pointing suspicion directly at him

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

A lot gets made of Mirror Kira and, like, fair enough. She's a great character and NV does a great job playing her. But I also really like Mirror Sisko. Getting into S3 we finally get to turn AB loose as an actor and he's just so good at playing this type of charismatic villain/tweener type that it's just such a joy to watch.

Alexis Vorian

The more i rewatch the show with Jen, the more convinced i am that this is the best Trek show.

Summer

If anyone has an idea of what you want Jen to watch, go to the request site https://www.jenmurrayxo.com/ and see if its already there, if not recommend it. Search the site for anything you might like seeing Jen see

Summer

I just love that one, he’s not fully wrong

ParallaxNick

The best DS9 scenes aren't planets blowing up; they're people talking. Star Trek has always drawn its talent from the theatre and it shows.

Squeesher

Exactly! It's one of my fav interactions between them and Garak's interpretation is just as valid as the "traditional" one lol

Kristin

Definitely agree that you/Jen should not watch the screen during the theme music for the season 4 opener.

Andrew Roach

In case you forgot we saw Enabran Tain the first time in Garak's episode The Wire last season. And while not a big deal you should read who directs the episodes as it is fun to know when a cast member does the directing.

Curran Dobbs

I don't know how long since you've played the Mass Effect Trilogy but now that you've got a bunch of Star Trek under your belt, you might want to listen for Marina Sirtis (Troi), Armin Shimerman (Quark), and Michael Dorn (Worf). Dwight Schultz (Barcley) is in it too but he sounds different enough that I would never have caught it if I didn't see his name in the credits.

Guy Incognito

Thank you again for your wonderful reaction, Jen. You're indeed a keen observer of the nuances. However, it's really hard to catch up on everything when you watch DS9 for the first time. Even I notice new things after rewatching it together with you for the third time. It's amazing too see the story arcs devolopping. The seeds the writer have planted during the last seasons are beginning to grow now. The built up for what is coming is really smart. It's not just the story of Garak, but also the story of Odo. The dialogues contain/imply a lot (Garak with Odo, Bashir, Mila and Enabran Tain). After hearing what they say to each other and how they are speaking with each other, how would you describe the relations of the characters? There is quite some room for speculations on the audience's side. What might have been Garak's betrayal? How might he feel about this accusation, after all what you've learned about him so far? Some truths might be hidden among the lies 😉

SteelPookie

It is and always has been 😁

Dean

From how much you’ve been enjoying DS9 so far, you’re going to LOVE the rest of the series. One thing I’ve enjoyed with your reactions thus far is you’ll ask a general question concerning the series, ie “will we ever learn about X?” or “will they touch on Y again?” and it makes me SO happy to know that DS9 almost completely delivers in the best way on answering those questions.

William Rosmer

garak's take on the boy who cried wolf is great, and entirely backed up by the story.

William Rosmer

in the wire it's made pretty clear garak believes being on the station is a kind of torture. he was using an implant to make him get through it but it broke. he's now just dealing with it because he can't do anything about it

Brett Whittaker

Oh boy oh boy can’t wait for next episode

David Lipps

Cameos in Looking Glass is one of several reasons you should be watching Voyager in airdate release order with DS9 like you did with it and TNG. The crossover moments we all love are always so cool.

Clay F

It was cool that she (wife) knew. Agree that evil Kira is done well - she is a good screen presence. Improbable Cause is a great episode. Enjoyed your reaction.
