Jen meets MOOOOOOOOOOGIE!!!

Summer

When you asked about it a couple weeks ago I bit my tongue

Ian

Oh wow a super early Jen trek Friday upload and your expression on the thumbnail is as surprised as I was lol . You're the ferengin best Jen 🖖🔥

Gábor Árki

I really enjoy these earlier drops as a Friday night watch, such a nice way to decompress after the working days. If I remember correctly, Family Business is the Csirkepaprikás episode, which genuinely surprised me on first viewing, as it may be the only Hungarian reference in these series. Not to mention that I love the fact that Sisko's good mood comfort cuisine is Hungarian. 😁

The_Truth

I don't know if you've watched the season 4 episode 1 yet but if you haven't put you hand over the introduction theme song so you're not spoiled on the episode

Gábor Árki

I've been commenting this the last two times, but based on some replies apparently she already knows for a while not to watch the theme for 4x01.

Jen Murray

I'm gonna close my eyes for the entire theme song on 4x1!

Michael Tuffin

Next week we get the Advesary, IMHO one of the best season enders.

Summer

The houses were designed to be like hobbit holes, rarely do we get such alien looks for planets.it seems Quark separates in his mind Ferengi females and alien females, alien females he hardly cares, but Ferengi ones he cares.

Curran Dobbs

I don't know if you picked up on this but for the opening credits of TNG and DS9, it's always Picard and Sisko first followed by the rest of the cast in alphabetical order of last name of the actor (same with the later Treks). Speaking of Star Trek cast members, you should listen to Les Poissons from The Little Mermaid and see if you recognize the the voice actor singing it... (if you released a reaction video of The Little Mermaid OR even a reaction video of just the Les Poissons song, I'd watch it just for the moment of realization).

Dean

So raktajino is Klingon coffee. It’s like super caffeinated and sometimes alcoholic. It’s the “Earl Grey, hot” drink of choice on DS9. I think if Moogie was able to leave Ferenginar (females aren’t allowed to travel legally), she could stay on the station either as a family member of Quark and Rom or as a refugee. DS9 has a crew of about 500 and can accommodate up to 7000 residents according the the specs.

Dean

Please, Space Jesus… let Jen’s child lovingly call her “Moogie” 🙏

John DiGiantomasso

But keep your ears open!!!! That will give you something to contemplate. 😜

Curran Dobbs

Pike City (as in the Pike City Pioneers) is named after Captain Pike. :) Cestus III which Kassidy mentioned is located was the planet Kirk and Spock beamed down to at the beginning of Arena, the episode where Kirk fought the Gorn.

Curran Dobbs

The dude who plays Shakaar also infamously played Dr. Crusher's space ghost hook up.

Zapp Rowsdower

Quark's and Rom's moogie was played by Andrea Martin, who first got famous on the Canadian sketch comedy show, SCTV, alongside greats including John Candy, Martin Short, Rick Moranis and Catherine O'Hara, who just passed. You recently saw Andrea Martin in Innerspace, in one scene when Short's character is sitting on the waiting room couch, beginning to hear Dennis Quaid in his head.

Ian

Ngl every time I hear winn call Kira' child ' I wanna scream 😠😅

Summer

As much as I hate saying it (because I adore Voyager and know you will) you made the right call focusing on DS9 then hopefully going to Voyager. Airdate order isn’t worth breaking up the stories here.

Jen Murray

Thanks! I know it's not what some people wanted but I am really enjoying focusing on DS9 for now. Looking forward to focusing on Voyager in future

TigerMyth

What? Is it my birthday? Early Trek!

Arthur 'Two Sheds' Jackson

Excited for next week, to say the least 😁💙 and the week after, oh boy . Although I kinda wish you could meet the Voyager crew 😄

Joel

Agreed, DS9's storylines are worth focusing on

Banes

Catherine O'Hara died?? Oh man...I might cry!

Ciarra Jade

After this 2 more ... then we take off with season 4... so excited!!

Banes

I love Family Business! Can't wait to watch. Actually, this whole season has been great, pretty much top to bottom. And both episodes next week are two of my favorites. Granted, I have a lot of favorite episodes in this series - but both those two are wonderful.

TC Green

Brunt. F. C. A. is played by the great Jeffrey Combs who you saw earlier this season as the creep who wanted a Holodeck program of Kira from Quark in “Meridian.”

Joel

Brunt!! FCA!! *Gets punched in the nose* Sorry, reflex action

jon bolton

Great reaction to two good episodes. They aren't personal favourites of mine, but only because Season 3 is so good, and there is a lot of competition this Season for my top episodes.

jon bolton

About if we'd seen Ferenginar yet? Me too.

Summer

Exactly, I know that wasn’t overly clear, I have been practicing being vague with reactors. Yeah, Jen asked a few months ago about going to Ferenginar and I looked everywhere but at the screen

Marcus Hicks

Isn't it weird that his first appearance was in such an eminently forgettable episode (I always skip that one, myself).

Marcus Hicks

Two truly fantastic episodes IMO. Season 3 has been almost exclusively banger episodes (except for Meridian).

Senzu Bean

The DS9 writers did a good job fleshing out the Ferengi. The self-identity is shining as bright as Latinum and their presence hides the many shades of hospitality to any degree of treachery. Always tread carefully: "hear all, trust nothing" when dealing with them. As for Kai Winn. She'd probably stab you slowly while looking at you and convince you that it's for the good of Bajor. You love to hate her!

Senzu Bean

PS Can't wait for next weeeeeeeek #Season4Hype

Mastervodo

I wanna smack that stupid hat off her head.

Bobby Coolbreeze

Cover your eyes season 4 premiere opening theme credits 🙂 More Ferengi Comedy and ROM com (pun intended) lol I believe this is the first time we go to Ferenginar? More Bajoran Politics 🙄 More scheming from everyone’s favorite Space Karen, Kai Winn. Funny Quark and Rom episode and one so-so Bajoran Ka-ka episode Filler episodes for me. Ok now I’m gonna watch you react!

Bobby Coolbreeze

After Voyager. We Have ST Enterprise which I hope you watch also!

Henchman Twenty1

Whoever would have thought back in the TNG days we'd get a touching family story... with the Ferengi? Only DS9 could! I felt bad for Moogie at the end when Rom left and she leaned against the doorframe and let out that sigh. The nest was empty once again. Nice little touch.

jon bolton

Don't worry Jen we know you'll get there one day, and i'm certainly not complaining as DS9 is my favourite Trek show.

Bobby Coolbreeze

I forgot about the B Story with Ben and Cassidy. Family Business was a good episode. More like Family Drama. Good character development for both Quark and Rom.

Henchman Twenty1

I liked to think that when the Federation recolonized Cestus III that they had come to an agreement with the Gorn. Perhaps they even agreed to share the planet? It would be amusing if the baseball league had at least one Gorn umpire.... DON'T argue with the ump!

Sykonee

Rom grew ten feet tall this week. Helps when you finally find your spine. 'Shakaar' felt like a bit of a retread for me (Kira must make a Difficult Decision regarding Bajor's future; inter-fighting among Bajorans), but hanging out with her old resistance posse was fun.

Bobby Coolbreeze

Kai Winn has been involved with every nefarious act when it comes Bajoran Politics. Jen you are perceptive when it comes to reading between the lines. The Bajoran Political situation is not my favorite aspect of the show but it is relevant to a lot of different story threads being weaved in the overall narrative. Loved it when Sisko threw the Prime Directive in Winn’s Face.

Ian

Last day of the month so if you still haven't used your monthly requests don't waste them before they reset tomorrow . Also don't forget to visit the site often and upvote everything you'd like Jen to watch www.jenmurrayxo.com

Summer

I hate that they put her in yellow, my favorite color

Ian

Right ! Yellow is Lucy's colour ( different show but a colour for good ) Winn is just evil and unworthy of nice colours

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

"That music!" And the camerawork. That whole Rom/Quark fight scene is so good. In fact it's a really great synopsis of the entire episode, silly as most Ferengi episodes are but somehow emotionally impactful at the same time. It really does feel like we've just dropped into a family dispute, real or tv, but from a Ferengi perspective. It's so goofy and so serious at the same time, I really love it.

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

In fairness to Miles, I once knew a fella that threw his back out reaching for the toilet paper. Just don't get old, J, that's my advice😆

phillip giroux

The beauty of this show and maybe this season in particular is its willingness to plant seeds unlike any star trek series before. I also love that they start moving away from the alien species being totally monolithic in behavior trope.

Zapp Rowsdower

Winn was such a troll. "Walk with the prophets, child" is her version of "U Mad, bro?"

John DiGiantomasso

So, Jen - I'm curious. I haven't heard you opine on Ferengi fashion. You've seen a lot of it now. As for me, I find the clash of colors, patterns and textures to be almost overwhelming. And yet - somehow - each outfit seems to fall into a perfectly unified single theme that just seems to work. And they all seem to be exquisitely cut and tailored. Your thoughts? Also, easter egg: the baseball is being played on Cestus III - that's the site of the Federation library that the Gorn destroyed in the TOS epidode "Arena."

John DiGiantomasso

All through the stabbing she'd be saying, " My poor child... you're hurt!"

John DiGiantomasso

I'll know Jen's mind has been fully corrupted when she stops saying "Oh, Frig" and starts saying "Oh! Fereng " when watching DS9. 🤣

ParallaxNick

All the DS9 runabouts are named after rivers. The Rubicon is the river that, in the Roman Empire, marked the boundary of Rome's territory. When Julius Caesar decided to march on Rome, when he crossed the Rubicon, he knew there was no going back, and declared, "The die is cast". The last runabout was destroyed in the Dominion ambush of the Tal Shiar-Obsidian Order fleet, in the episode titled "The Die Is Cast".

ParallaxNick

The Ferengi are a short people, so everything is built to scale. The reason their houses look like hobbit holes is that their architecture is rounded to deal with the constant rain.

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

I agree, KW, I don't think I could handle the jumping back and forth right now 😆 Just as important, it's J's decision and J's channel, not ours. Folk need to respect that. (I'm not coming down on you, KW, you're always so supportive in the comments)

Chris Biebel

BTW, the actor who played Brunt (the Ferengi from the FCA) was often reused as an actor in Trek. Over the various series, he played something like 10 different characters.

fallingupdownthere

He’s also the guy that plays Dracula in Monster Squad!

Curran Dobbs

While these are solid episodes, it's the next couple of weeks of DS9 episodes that I'm really looking forward to (especially S04E01 and S04E02 but the last two episodes of S03 as well). Being overshadowed a bit by what's to come makes it a bit more difficult to judge these episodes fairly, IMHO.

Fr. Brench

Looking forward to that time where he's cast as at least two people in the same episode! haha

William Rosmer

I will say that back in s2, that while quark did try to help the ferengi woman pel.

Marcus Hicks

Getting old beats the alternative.

Marcus Hicks

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it, but Cestus III was the colony attacked by the Gorn in The Original Series episode "Arena".
