VOTE: Poll #112

This week we'll check out more SEIN, more FUTURAMA, and the Season 3 finale of DS9!✨As well we'll continue the View Askewniverse with MALLRATS and last week's Poll Winner VERTIGO! Looking forward to all of it! :)

Hear ye hear ye I have an announcement!✨So I was talking with my Dad a couple weekends ago and he mentioned he has NEVER SEEN Star Wars!! I asked him if he'd be interested in doing a reaction to it with me since I wanted to rewatch the originals before watching the new ones (7-9) and he thought it was a great idea! He is visiting me in March or April (TBD, to help me finish the nursery so we can move our little guy in there), so we plan to try it then. I appreciate your patience, I'm really excited to watch them with my Dad! I know some of you prefer solo reactions so I appreciate you indulging me for these 👍

Here's a random question - can anyone recommend any SILENT fidget toys? You may or may not have noticed I almost always have my hands fidgeting while I watch stuff. It used to be my earphone cord and now I have a couple little toys but they make a bit of noise so looking for some others that are quieter👍

Can't believe its FEBRUARY already! Holy moly. It'll be summer again before we know it. Still freezing here tho, the coldest winter we've had in a while! 🥶🥶 Hope all of you living in cold places are staying toasty warm and all of you living in warm places are staying nice and cool ♡

THANK YOU. Thanks for being here, for keeping this all going. Thanks for your encouraging words, interesting trivia, funny anecdotes, kindness to each other and just general AWESOMENESS. I hope you guys are having a really great 2026 so far. I know I am. It's my continued JOY to be here with you all every week, watching such cool stuff ♡♡♡

Hope everyone has a great week! ♡♡♡

xoxo

Jen ♡

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

Of course we're all excited for the DS9 S3 finale, finales tending to be what they are. But I think you're very much going to enjoy Facets as well, J. Great week as usual🖖

Dylan

Another great line up Jen. Also that’s awesome your dad is gonna join you in watching Star Wars, looking forward to those reactions when they come out 🔥

Fanchman

I think a rewatch with your Dad could be fun.

Arthur 'Two Sheds' Jackson

The Slicer and the betreyal!! DS9 finale and MALLRATS YESSSSS! (Please watch Theatrical Cut as per usual) 😁😁

Rob Nichols

Star Wars reactions with your Dad would be cool! Would you consider watching the original cuts of the original trilogy? Then it won't feel like a rerun to you.

The Fly

I've been watching dead mall tourism videos recently and thinking of Mallrats—a time capsule from when malls were both a social hub and essential utility for those with a legitimate shopping agenda

Darryl Low

Lots of great stuff to look forward to. Havent seen Vertigo in years so I'm excited to watch another Hitchcock movie with you. Star Wars with your Dad will be a lot of fun Jen ☺

Jen Murray

Original cuts? I didn't even know those were a thing! I'll have to see if I can track them down 👍

Fanchman

Please Please Please - a Friday reaction to DS9. I will be with family over a week starting Saturday, and probably won't have time to watch then.

Dean

Some bangers on DS9 this week. I can’t wait. I might have to straight up take off of work for NEXT week’s episodes LOL

Rob Nichols

The original cuts aren't available officially, iykwim. I can help you find them if you're interested.

Fanchman

That might be hard for others to sync

Over50Gamer

This is an awesome lineup! And Ghost?? I somehow missed it, but I need to watch the full reaction; I'm not much into romance, but mix it with death and the supernatural and I'm there. And I'm VERY interested and honored in seeing what your dad thinks of Star Wars. ❤️

The Fly

The theatrical versions were released in a box set once on disc so are rare but available, also the 'despecialized editions' are fan-edits of the original trilogy that use the special editions as a source but edit them to mimic the original cuts If available either are preferable to the special editions

Rob Nichols

Yeah that could be a problem for anyone who doesn't have them.

Jason Pratt

For fidgeting, it doesn’t click, but silly putty has worked for me before.

Rob Nichols

The 4K77, 4K80 and 4K83 are the best versions, scanned from original prints.

Randy Aiken

when your dad helps you finish the nursery, dont forget to add a secret passage or 2 😄

Noremac

I'd enjoy seeing your dad guest star in a reaction. I remember you did a couple with your sister, right? I guess Mallrats is worth rewatching with your reaction, but what I'm excited for is seeing Vertigo with you. I think it's Hitchcock's best movie and his most psychological. Speaking of psychology I wonder why it's so enjoyable rewatching an old movie with someone who has never seen it before. Maybe you'll have insight after you watch Star Wars with your dad.

Jen Murray

Hmm yes I'll probably have to do what is going to be easiest for others to watch along with their copy 👍

Banes

it’ll be fun to watch Star Wars with you and your dad. Nice idea!

Banes

Along with everything else, those are two really great Futurama eps! How Hermes Requisitioned his Groove Back isn’t just one of my favourite episodes, but has to be an all time great episode title XD

Geoff S.

The watch along with your dad is like one of the best ideas I’ve heard in a while!

Rob Nichols

Understood. Oh well, it was an idea.

Jason Pratt

I forgot her sis had a channel for a bit. Man, how long have I been watching reactions?!

Byrd N. Hand

I believe it was one of the titles that got lost in the Spooky/Holiday Seasons shuffle, along with the Coens' "True Grit."

Kristin

A watch along woth your dad is great! If possible, find the unadulterated (theatrical) version of star wars. Its the best version.

Jason Scade

"Join him, and together you can rule the YT-verse as father and daughter!"

Kane

If you haven't watched yet, please double check you have the theatrical cut of Mallrats, the extended is significantly worse. The idea of doing SW reactions with your dad sounds like a lot of fun.

Ian

" Good news everyone! " More Futurama 🔥

Markus W.

While I was looking forward to Star Wars this week, that is a great plan to watch the OT with your dad! My dad passed last year and I would give anything to just watch a movie with him… Maybe you can work in a "I'm your daughter" joke when watching TESB?

Ian

Both movies over 2hrs likewise with the Andromeda strain ugh don't have the time so will be skipping the movies this week maybe watch them during Easter break so just the shows this week

Kevin Sommerfield

Jen, I really don't know how you do it with a small child (or even without one)! I appreciate all your hard work and hope you are not to exhausted - do you still have an editor?

Summer

Silent fidgit toys are hard, I take it having a little play dough in your hands would be too messy, if I think of one I will let you know, I also always need my hands moving, with cerebral palsy I can’t leave hands or legs still too long. Dice would be close but would still make sound a little. Knitting I suppose wouldn’t be as loud as some. But even slinkys can be noisy. One of my things near me to use my hands with are plastic poker chips, if you only handle a few at a time away from the microphone the sound won’t be too bad. It is totally reasonable for you to want something to do with your hands, hand sewing and knitting are quiet enough but take some amount of focus. The best thing would be a deck of cards that you mess with fairly silent. I am also a fan of ribbon, wrapping it on a finger or just rerolling it, that would be silent. Will keep a look out. I believe you will like DS9 this week. You have so much content. Glad you can watch Star wars with your dad. I am for joint reactions, you amd your dad are likely to be great reactors together for Star Wars. Has he seen Trek? Maybe you should introduce him to that too if not. (A little noise is ok as long as its not constant and we see what it is)

Gábor Árki

Maybe you could put the which Star Wars cut question to a poll? I suspect the newer cuts would probably win because they're easier to access, but there's still a small chance people might prefer the original theatrical versions. Especially since those are never reacted by anyone due to this argument of easy accessibility. Lucas made extensive changes to these films over the years. In 1997, the trilogy was re-released as the Special Edition with modified cuts, revised effects and added CGI. Those versions were later altered further for the DVD releases, with even further small tweaks made for the Blu-ray and 4K editions. The original theatrical cuts were officially released only once on DVD, using an old laserdisc master from the 80s. However, restored versions do exist, created by enthusiast. Most notably Projects 4K77, 4K80, and 4K83. They tracked down some original 35mm theatrical prints, scanned them in 4k, and carefully restored them.

Summer

I thought I was the only one who wanted such things, at least a cat door so the cat can slways escape.

Ian

I don't understand why people are suggesting different star wars cuts just do the theatrical version simple 🤷why just complicate things for no reason , it's ridiculous

The Fly

Most people watch pirated copies of the theatrical versions, very few people have legal copies

Clay F

I don't understand why people are suggesting the theatrical version of stars wars not readily available. Just do the versions streaming on Disney+ simple 🤷why just complicate things for no reason. it's ridiculous.

Clay F

React to the Star Wars streaming on Disney+ (or rent for $3.99 on Amazon). Please do not instead react to theatrical versions not readily available. I know you won't react to illegal versions. That goes without saying. Apparently, Disney+ features the 4K UHD, HDR10, and Dolby Vision versions of all nine Skywalker Saga films, along with Rogue One and Solo. These are based on the revised 2011 Blu-ray special editions, not the original theatrical cuts. The versions include George Lucas's tweaks, such as updated CGI and the "Maclunkey" edit in A New Hope. In 1977 when I was 14, I saw the theatrical version of Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope in the theater.

Jason Scade

All the daft "improved" version of these films are updates that personally I'm not mad on, but if the original theatrical versions are not readily available to the majority of people, then I think Clay's suggestion makes the most practical sense. Clay, what is an illegal version of Star Wars, please? I've never heard of that. :) Are the original theatrical versions no longer available on any platform or media? I still own a beautiful laserdisc deluxe boxed set of the original theatrical editions of the Star Wars trilogy, still in perfect just bought condition. It's class.

Clay F

Illegal versions of Star Wars: A New Hope can refer to unauthorized fan-restored, high-definition copies of the original 1977 theatrical cut, such as "Harmy’s Despecialized Edition". These versions, created by fans, reverse the CGI and plot alterations made in later official releases (e.g., Han shooting first) to restore the original 1977 experience. Further, as The Fly noted below, most people watch pirated copies [illegal] of the theatrical versions, very few people have legal copies.

Patrick Turman

Jen, I don't have any recommendations for silent fidget toys but you might try looking on a teachers' supply store online. I know that a lot of teachers use them for when the kids get too antsy or wiggly. Can't wait to see Vertigo!! And watching with your dad sounds great!

Ian

Incase you're unaware Not everyone has Disney+ 🤷

Byrd N. Hand

Surely most of us know the Star Wars movies well enough at this point that one really doesn't even need a copy with which to watch along? They can mostly follow along with the blurred and muted copy Jen provides? 🤷‍♂️ Whatever. I very rarely watch SW reactions anymore -- mostly because I vehemently disagree with release order for first-time viewers (especially adult ones), but, alas, the vast majority of people who watch these videos still doggedly insist on it, and the vast majority of reactors blindly comply. 😣

Zapp Rowsdower

This exactly. I'm not subscribing to Disney+ just because some snobs say so.

Clay F

Many patrons not that familiar with SW (or only watched the SW movies once or twice over the decades) will watch her SW reactions. I know I will need a copy to watch along. Many patrons who will watch her SW reactions are not SW fanatics.

Jen Murray

I will likely watch the version most readily available to stream

Clay F

Rent for $3.99 on Amazon Prime Video = available = simple. Theatrical version = not readily available = complicated.

Kristen

When you announced you wanted to rewatch the Star Wars movies I was lgoing to mention you should re-record them because a rewatch is different than an initial watch and I would love another watch along, but thought it might be a pain in the butt to edit something you’ve already done. So happy for a Dad watch along!

Gábor Árki

Her first time reaction is already on the channel to these latest, widely available versions. I don't see why a second time reaction couldn't be for the original cut then, but again to the same latest versions which already have another reaction. Also, the original theatrical cuts are not illegal copies. In very dated transfers, but you can own them legally by buying the DVD set. It seems you can still buy them today.

Jen Murray

Yes I have 2 editors! Holly does all the Trek and the occasional movie. Dmytro does all the movies and Seins! I'm very lucky, they are both excellent and so nice to work with :)

Jason Scade

@Clay. Oh, I see. Thank you. :)

Summer

Your dad might be there near your birthday, hopefully you guys will get to do something fun

The Fly

A bit late but just a quick note to watch the theatrical cut of Mallrats (94-95 minutes) if possible, rather than the bloated extended cut (121 minutes)

Byrd N. Hand

Granted, no one pushes for the original theatrical cuts for "Blade Runner" or "Kingdom of Heaven." 🤷‍♂️

Bernie Zwicky

That’s so sweet! It’ll be nice to see you and your dad enjoying these together…can’t wait!😊

Harvey Lee

That’ll be so cool to see your dad on board for a reaction , looking forward to that Plus Mallrats and Predator 2 you’re spoiling us with all this great content 😁♥️
