Ok it's the next installment of the View Askewniverse and in this one we're hanging with the cool kids at the mall! I definitely noticed the higher budget but it's interesting to me that this one didn't do as well as Clerks right out of the gate, or so I've heard. I'm very curious to keep going with the series, so Chasing Amy -- shall we give it a go next?

Nice! Will look forward to seeing your reaction to this one. Haha. Just a slight tone change from Clerks, eh.

Dylan

I’ve been looking forward to this one. The Stan Lee scene is still my all time favourite movie scene 🔥

Darryl Low

Chasing Amy was a pretty cool movie back in the day, and it's the only one of the trilogy I have seen 😅 Definitely worth a watch Jen 😊

Ian

Never heard of this but judging by the thumbnail you had a fun time 😂 no clue when I will get round to watching this but it's looks bonkers in the pic there 😀

Harvey Lee

Continuing into the Kevin Smith View Askew inverse Mallrats is a good second film from Smith and for anyone like me who's had to work in a mall it's extra funny Happy Thursday Jen😄🔥

Jon Anderson

I have kind of a love-hate relationship with Kevin Smith, but I'm of the right generation for this and, whatever its flaws, sometimes it just hits the spot. Best bits for me are the charismatic performance from skateboarding's Jason Lee (think it was his first movie?), those amazing credits from top comic artists, and of course Stan. Chasing Amy, yes! Right up your street.

Arthur 'Two Sheds' Jackson

Yes Chasing Amy!!! And then on to Dogma and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back!! 😁 Lafours was played by Sven-Ole Thorsen, one of Arnold's bodybuilding buddies, he was in The Running Man among others

WinkNudgeNudge

Having watched your reaction, some fun facts! Shannon Doherty got to keep her outfits from the movie, so she wore as many as possible. Haha. The Degrassi reference is about Kevin Smith's love of Degrassi. He and Jason Mewes even had a guest spot on Degrassi the Next Generation. Too bad we didn't see more of Claire Forlani after this movie, apparently she was a victim of Weinstein's blackballing of people that rejected him. If you do want to see more of her, she's awesome in Meet Joe Black with Brad Pitt.

This may be my favorite of the Kevin Smith Movies

Connections between Clerks and Mallrats Julie Dwyer the girl who died in the pool. Her funeral is the one Dante and Randall go to in Clerks. Rick Derris was in Clerks and in Mallrats is mentioned as the guy who had sex with the bandit on the pool table. Randall (Clerks) and Brodie each mention a Cousin Walt. Also I am sure u noticed Gil Hicks and played by the same actor who played Dante in Clerks. Star Wars references in both movies. La Fours is a tribute to Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid. The main and feared Lawman pursuing them is name LaFours and is known for wearing a skimmer hat

Noremac

Ouch. Watching these sex and romance movies always brings me down. I made it through most of this one through. I'm looking forward to Vertigo!

rubberkidney

dang its all extended reactions from my source. bummer will have to wait for youtube edit i guess.

Kristin

Meet Joe Black is a wonderful film. Highly underrated. Pitt and Forlani and excellent. I also love her in Mystery Men.

Jeremy Nuss

I was born on the cusp of Gen X too and thought they were so cool.. I saw Mallrats on vhs and thought it was awesome. Definitely down for Chasing Amy.

Brando83

Absolutely NO to "Chasing Amy..." said no one ever. Great job, Jen!

Jonas

Also, Gil Hicks is Dante's cousin. In case no one else aid it, this movie takes place the day before Clerks. Julie Dwyer's funeral is tomorrow.

Trigger

I believe the conversation about Superman's supersperm was the origin of the phrase 'blowing her back out'

Trigger

You might have thought you recognised T.S from Dazed & Confused—which didn't actually feature the same actor but his identical twin brother, Jason London

Trigger

She also features in Mystery Men

Jen Murray

I haven't seen Dazed & Confused yet!

Trigger

Ah OK, they're dead ringers being identical...

BatteryPoweredBricks

I don't think anyone else has pointed out that T.S. picks up and puts on a "Clerks" hat while they are in the "dirt mall". There were plenty of other tie-ins I only learned about from reading other's comments. I think I've only seen Chasing Amy once and I don't remember being super into it, but I'd watch along to give it another shot. I remember it was a very different than other ViewAskewniverse movies. I'm really looking forward to the rest though! I watched Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back on TV as a teenager and only later watched the other movies, Mallrats being one of my favorites. Glad you chose the theatrical version, at least for a first watch. From what I remember the longer cut adds a lot in runtime but somehow takes away overall.

I have an electrical worker named Walter that I'll frequently early in the day, it'll be all quiet just pulling cable or something and out of nowhere I start with "my cousin walter"....then make up some story along the lines of this movie...and he says something along the lines of "it wasn't a gerbil, it was a hamster"... 🤣🤣🤣 We frequently quote Kevin Smith movies on job sites. so glad we don't have people that run to HR about it.

WallyWeasel

Seeing this one kinda makes me sad. Back when I was first watching this one (around the time it came out) we lived within walking distance of two malls. The "good mall" and the "dirt mall". The "good mall" was highscale with big box stores and a few niche ones like San Francisco and also had escalators. The "dirt mall" had the comic store and a pretty good library. Unfortunately, the comic store moved further downtown and the restaurant for their food court closed so it just became a sitting area to look over the lake. There's a mall where I live now but it's 90% clothing stores and no escalator.
