anyone else playing that voyager game that just came out? really good trek game effort. waay better than modern trek. could use some polish but a decent ship management exploration sim, and the voyager stories. they even got the theme song in!

Fanchman

Thank you for the copy-free version! I'm working in Puerto Rico for a week, and Paramount doesn't work here.

Curran Dobbs

Remember that Cardassians flirt by bickering (O'Brien found out in an awkward way last season). Gul Dukat probably feels like Kira is flirting back with him.

Curran Dobbs

Dax: I totally don't let relationships from previous lives interfere with my life as Jadzia. Also Dax: I'm going to plead guilty to a charge against Curzon in season 1 and then go off to fulfill a Klingon blood oath in season 3...

Jen Murray

Is anyone having audio issues on the Watch-Along? If so let me know below & thanks for your patience as I work out kinks of posting these

Mayan Luevano

Rejoined is one of only a few episodes that I remember quite distinctly, seeing a relationship like this on cable TV in the 90s was truly ahead of its time.

Geoff S.

These are a Godsend! Thank you so much for these. No problems as of yet.

Brian Straight

Listening to you analyze the theme is interesting a fun.

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

You can very easily see why Terry Farrell went on to do the shows she did, her comedic lines have a very sitcom-y feel to them. I rather enjoy it, all of her DS9 comedy scenes are really good.

Henchman Twenty1

I like the actor (Roy Brocksmith) who played the scrap dealer/former smuggler in 4x5. He was also in the season 2 TNG episode "Peak Performance" and was in the movie "Total Recall" as Dr. Edgemar, the guy from Recall who tried to get Quaid to swallow the red pill.

Banes

Still on the first episode but a couple of drops happen for a few seconds at about 24:17, 24:40, and 25:00. Kind of an ongoing thing in the episode so far but it didn't seem to drop much, or any dialogue.

Jen Murray

Ok thanks this is helpful I'll look into it

Something I love about Trek of this era is showing we, as a species and as a culture, have gotten past discrimination and bigotry so to create explorations of such things, the writers use other species’ issues as metaphors. I find that uniquely Trek in how hopeful the future can be. Notice how the issue for the crew on DS9 or even the Trill wasn’t that the two characters were women; it was that they were lovers in their past lives. It’s a clever use of context to show how much progress we’d make in the future (keep in mind, this came out in the 90’s). I will agree that it would have been nice for there to have been out LGBTQ characters in the series, but I also understand that it took us a long time to get to that point in modern mainstream media.

Desmond

Really good insight into Dukat's character. He's one of the more interesting recurring characters in all of Trek.

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

We should keep in mind that not all Trill are joined with a symbiote. Unjoined Trill are just plane ol' (spotted) humanoids. Presumably joined Trill to joined Trill marriages are at least somewhat rare, since the majority of Trill are unjoined. I would think that most marriages are unjoined to unjoined, followed by unjoined to joined, with joined to joined being the least common. Which would explain why only a handful of couples have followed through with Reassociation.

Banes

Two really good episodes. Psyched for next week as well! Engage!

Desmond

Very true.

I love how Jen's reaction to Lenara and Jadzia kiss was feeling the romantic tension and passion for each other, as was the intent behind the moment and how Avery directed it, and not for the sensationalist moment of two women kissing on a prime time TV show. Something that *was* still seen as incredibly taboo in the '90s. Given the amount of hate-mail the show got for that scene, however, suggests many viewers did not, in fact, understand the intent of the moment.

Desmond

Great point too about the Trill, and how they must all have children, granchildren, and many descendants, having so many lives. Rejoined is a well-written episode, and they handled the same-sex relationship in a very tactful way, especially given when it was aired. Yes, there's a scifi twist to it, but it's still a relationship between two women, and none of our characters have any issue with that aspect of it. Yet it still manages to parallel the struggle that LGBTQ people have had being accepted in real life.

Bobby Coolbreeze

Two very character driven episodes, both good stories. We get to see a very different side of Dukat and his relationship to Kira is very interesting. Dax being a Trill is very interesting also cause you these characters twists that you don’t get with other characters. I remember back then this was one those risquĆ© episodes because of the same sex kiss which I think was a first for Star Trek if not TV period? Controversial at the time. Terry Farrell is such a good actress to pull it off! The actress who played Lenora has played different characters Star Trek TNG.

Bobby Coolbreeze

I love the new opening credits and theme. It signifies the change in tone for the series as i said in previous comments. I find it wild that you can identify different instruments in music! I’m not very familiar with all the musical instruments but do have an ear for the changes and the sound underneath you call the synth it’s really cool! There is an urgency with the music. The first 3 seasons the theme was so more melancholy and distant to me. I just started watching your Mandalorian reactions and the music in that show is very interesting. The composer in that show is very eccentric and uses unconventional instruments and sounds to create a fantastic score for that show. Id like to know what kind of background you have in music Jen? You seem very knowledgeable.

Bobby Coolbreeze

Season 4 is definitely a banger And next week we get two more great episodes! I don’t think there were any bad or yawners this season? The show really hits its stride and develops its own unique style from the other Ship based series. Definitely the best Character driven series out of all the Trek shows.

Summer

Jen is going to rip Dukat a new one, love it. I agree about the Kassidy thing.

Summer

Odd that the friendship with Sisko isn’t considered reassociation. Love your interaction with technobabble Jen

Julian San

Jen is going to soooo enjoy the next month of DS9 episodes! !

I wasn’t able to figure out how to AirPlay the watch along from my iPhone last time. I researched a bit more and found an alternative: screen mirroring (it’s the overlapping rectangles in the Control Center (pull down from the right-top of the screen)). It works, but a couple of caveats. 1) I had to open the streamable.com link in Safari itself, not in the embedded browser that shows when you click the link directly. To do that, you can click the link directly and there is a button in the lower left to switch to the full Safari app. 2) The reason you want to switch to the full Safari app is so you can rotate the phone and video landscape. If you mirror your phone’s display with the video shown portrait, it is severely stretch on the TV. It is still stretched for me in landscape, but it is bearable. If someone knows a way to do proper AitPlay from iPhone -> TV, I’d appreciate a hint. Thanks! And thank you Jen! 🩵

Noremac

I didn't finish episode six. I just don't understand romance at all. It's like watching the show in a different language.

Joel

Rejoined - No matter how bad social dynamics here on Earth get, thank God humans don't have THESE problems

Goddess of Empathy

The big question: is Dukat redeemable? Marc Alaimo is great at keeping us guessing

Ian Fleming

Season Four is the year Ira Steven Behr fully took charge of DS9 (as an Executive Producer) and it shows. Admittedly, season four has its share of "duffers" but the outstanding quality surrounding them more than makes up for it.

Bammer

The audio of the episode kept fading in and out on the full watch a long.

Jen Murray

Yes I have a fixed one that is uploading now Edit: Link has been updated to fixed version!

Jen Murray

Played in the orchestra up to college!šŸ‘

The_Truth

I've been playing it, I started with the Caretaker mission

rubberkidney

yea it basically follows the show pretty closely, you can def lose key people though, id love them to do one with tng, polish the interface and the combat, thats a delicious star trek soup!

Zapp Rowsdower

Episode 4, Indiscretion, was directed by LeVar Burton. Episode 5, Rejoined, was directed by Avery Brooks.

Ian Fleming

I am guessing that it is down to the fact that, like Kor, Kang and Koloth before him, Sisko isn't a Trill. This "reassociation" thing seems to be a Trill-only taboo.

Joe Concepts

Always found it interesting how the "taboo' aspect of Dax's relationship was only about Trill culture. No one once makes it about her being with another woman. Such a Star Trek thing, teaching us a lesson but it's not about THAT. But, it is.

ParallaxNick

I've speculated that the reason re-association is so taboo is because a joined Trill who keeps returning to his or her old friends and loves and essentially lives his or her past life over and over again is basically immortal. The taboo is in place to prevent the joined becoming an immortal aristocracy.

Marcus Hicks

If I am not mistaken, this is the first on-screen appearance of The Breen in Star Trek.

Fr. Brench

That's a really good point. At that point they'd basically be the Goa'ould in Stargate...

Tyrone Tyrone

Please stop the gum poping it comes through the mic extra loud.

Coolbeans

In that case, have you ever seen the Frasier episode "They're Playing Our Song"? I think you'd appreciate it

Muggy

The first one is obviously based on The Searchers. Kira even uses the famous line "That'll be the day"
