Dylan

Loved this as a kid. Still love the animated skeletons to this day.

Darryl Low

This was such a cool reaction Jen. Hopefully the first of many Ray Harryhausen movies on your channel hehe 😊

The more I think about this movie, the more I liked it!

Helly R

The Skeletons is one of the best effects sequences ever.

This is just an awesome classic and one of Ray Harryhausen's best , Greek Mythology and stop motion what a combo. The stop motion artistry in this is phenomenal , you can see how the Skeleton fight went on to influence Sam Raimi's Army of Darkness . I also loved the other sequences Poseidon stopping the clashing rocks and Talos the giant statue at the beginning . Excellent choice Jen :)

"The 7th Voyage of Sinbad" (1958), "Clash of the Titans" (1981), "The Golden Voyage of Sinbad" (1973), "Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger" (1973) are all Ray Harryhausen in a similar Greek mythological theme. And all have excellent effects. I'd also suggest his sci-fi adaptation of Jules Verne's "Mysterious Island" (1961), but you'd have to first watch Disney's epic version of its precursor: "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" (1954). Let me say emphatically, it's one of the greatest sci-fi novel adaptations, ever. And one of Disney's greatest live action films. A classic, up there with the best.

And a note on Ray Harryhausen. He was forever changed by seeing "King Kong" as a child, and made stop motion his life's calling. He had special techniques that solved many of the problems of blending models and live action, and he worked alone. That means that to create that skeleton fight, it had to be integrated with the actors, and that he had to - by hand - alone - move every bone of every skeleton 24 times per second of film to complete the sequence. He had to keep the entirety of the action in the sequence in his head, so he could execute those thousands of movements. If he bumped something, or made a mistake, he'd have to go back to the beginning of a sequence and start over. He was the undisputed master of the craft. RIP.

Eep. I missed that! Edit: yeah, weird. It didn't notify me.

Alex

This and the 7th Voyage of Sinbad were my go to films as a child, hopefully Sinbad is on the list 😁.

Was shown this movie in grade school (part of Greek Mythology stuff) and didn't remember much except Talos and the skeletons. Which, to be fair, are pretty much the movie's most iconic set pieces.

Saturday mornings as a kid watching📺🍿 all classic sci fi movies after Saturday morning cartoons! Thank you so much!!!🫵🎯👌🏆💯👌👏

"First Men In The Moon" film (1964) It can still be viewed for free with ads on YouTube It's an HG Wells adaptation. Classic sci fi. Ray Harryhausen the influential father of "Stop motion" effects witnessed in classics throughout this era. I wholeheartedly agree with the "7th Voyage Of Sinbad." suggestions as another classic of this era.

Saw it as a kid… When the skeletons popped out of the ground I nearly lost my mind from the thrill of it. I think it still holds up. The genre goes by its perfect descriptor: Swords and Sandals. Thanks so much for the great reaction!

Did you recognise the goddess Hera, as Pussy Galore from Goldfinger..
