Thanks for your patience on this repost! Syncing issues should be fixed but please let me know if there are further issues! I did not end up recording a different outro for these eps, but will let u know my updated thoughts in next week's video :)

The_Truth

Thanks Jen, appreciate your attention to detail

Ian

Really enjoyed both these episodes ๐Ÿ”ฅ looking forward to hearing your updated thoughts in the next one , always enjoy your outros Jen they are always a great listen ๐Ÿ––

Summer

Good to watch again

Arthur 'Two Sheds' Jackson

IMO I thought your thoughts were fine. This is a first time watch, if people are going to complain about how "you watched the episode wrong" you are going to end up uploading one episode per week just to appease them. Let's keep going and keep up the great work ๐Ÿ––๐Ÿผ

Zapp Rowsdower

Just so you know, a humanoid is not strictly a human. For instance, Trill, Bajorans, Vulcans, Romulans, Klingons, Cardassians, Betazoids, Androians and... even Ferengi are considered humanoid. It refers to any being with the common body parts: two arms, two legs, a head with two eyes, nose mouth, feet, one thorax, the brain in the head, etc. Odo is the only non-humanoid regular on the show.

Lorenzo Turner

What did you jerks say to Jen to make her record a whole new updated final thoughts?

Jen Murray

I didn't record new final thoughts. People just commented some things I hadn't considered before. I will address this in next video

Jen Murray

It's more that people say I missed an important point and when I consider it afterwards it makes me see the episode differently. I would never re-record a reaction. But I don't think it's that bad to record new final thoughts if I have changed my mind about something. That being said, I did not record new final thoughts here

Walter Crockett

Good to know. I had syncing issues for the first time on these episodes Jen. I thought it was my fault because I just moved and my WiFi is not as good as it used to be. Thank you for fixing the video ๐Ÿ˜€

Desmond

Trying to remember what I commented on the original post, lol. I think I remarked how it was unusual that everyone is wearing the TNG-style uniforms (black shoulders, the rest a solid color), as opposed to the DS9 uniforms (solid color shoulders, the rest black), when it had already been established on Voyager (and Generations) that the DS9-style were already being worn on starships. Also that you did right to point out how Admiral Leyton isn't just doing it for power or selfishness, he really does have (what he sees as) honorable motives. It adds a nice layer of complexity to what could have been a very cookie-cutter plot with cookie-cutter villains.

Ian Fleming

OK, I am glad that you didn't re-record your final thoughts. Temporarily taking a video down is fine if you are fixing a technical glitch but I would hate for you to feel that you are being brow-beaten into accepting a received opinion on the plot/theme/message of a particular episode.

Zapp Rowsdower

A couple of Star Trek actor returns for these episodes: Brock Peters (Joseph "Grandpa" Sisko) was Admiral Cartwright in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, and VI: The Undiscovered Country. Susan Gibney (Commander Benteen) was in a couple of TNG episodes where she acted alongside Levar Burton (Geordi LaForge). as Dr. Leah Brahms, the designer of the Enterprise. She was also considered to possibly play Captain Janeway on Star Trek: Voyager, but was eventually turned down because she was too young for the role.

Kristin

It's the way with shows though, you are never going to pick up on everything the first time. I'm glad you kept your original outro. Updating your views later on is completely acceptable too.

Squeesher

Hey, I was right there with you on thinking of that Thor moment when OB reared up to smash his glass on the Bar lol

Arthur 'Two Sheds' Jackson

I doubt anybody picked up on everything the first time they watched it. I just wish people would relax for a bit about it ๐Ÿ˜„

Bobby Coolbreeze

Iโ€™m confused why you having new thoughts on these episodes?

Fanchman

Just finished your repost with no sync issues, but I would like to make one suggestion. At the very beginning when you have "Sync Now" over the screen, it's hard for me to see the video to sync up with my Paramount video. Maybe it's because I use my phone for your video, but I can't really tell if I'm synced up until we get to the intro theme music. A lot of times I use your humming to find tune my sync. ๐Ÿ™‚ Maybe use a smaller logo at the beginning or more transparent. Just a suggestion.

Michael B.

I'm glad you didn't redo the outro. When I read the post where you mentioned you were planning to do so, I was a bit sad that Iโ€™d never get to see your initial thoughts. Itโ€™s easy to miss things the first time you watch an episode. Many of us have probably watched the entire series more than once and so have a different perspective. I very much like your solution to share your revised thoughts in the next episode.

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

Hard agree. Telling someone they have "bad takes" is some awful fan gatekeepey bullcrap. I've definitely experienced folks crawling into my mentions to tell me why my favourite characters shouldn't be my favourites characters or whatever and it's a huge turnoff. This is why people are afraid to engage in fan communities, because they're made to feel like there's a right and wrong to everything. In my case it just makes me dig my heels in harder because I'm an asshole like that lol and an old enough fan to be secure in my opinions, but it's different with new fans. Why do we spend so much energy correcting everybody, it's ridiculous.

Struzzylive

Well, if youโ€™re open to other perspectives i might have a few :)

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

I'm just as amused the second time around by J's Changeling impersonation *waves arms, burbling noises*

John Sullivan

DS9 makes replicated food like some cheap imitation. In TNG replicated food was spectacular :-)

Arthur 'Two Sheds' Jackson

Anybody who tries to gatekeep and tells you "you are not a true fan" because you see things a different way can just F.O. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

The Run To The Movies reaction channel just dropped TNG 5x18 "Cause and Effect." It really does feel like deja vu all over again ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ˜†. Guys, I think J might be a time traveler.

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

I never did get a good look at the comment section of the previous version of this upload. I'm hoping folks phrased things in the spirit of "Yes, And..." and not in the spirit of "You're wrong, here's why I'm right" Be well, J. See you in the next one ๐Ÿ––๐Ÿ‘

Not disagreeing, my friend. Would point out there are a lot of similarities to the Riker/Pressman dynamic from The Pegasus also.

Alexis Vorian

I guess some people were mad because you didn't condemn a military coup with stronger determination? I think your thoughts are completely valid and reasonable anyway.

A couple of things hit hard for me in this two-parter, one of which is personal. I don't mind sharing because I always feel like one's life experiences can help others too. First, when Sisko said to his dad that he could visit DS9 as well, it made me hurt. I love my parents, but they never seem to want to visit me and I always have to go to them. This had been going on for years and it was always a sore spot with me, though I never mentioned it.... until i had a stroke a few years ago. In the hospital, I finally told them that it shouldn't take a stroke for them to visit me. I thought I got through to them, as they visited me that Thanksgiving afterwards, but that was sadly short lived. My parents are great, loving people, but I get sad thinking of this. My other thought was that this episode, the timing of it, dovetails nicely with your upcoming viewing of Captain America and The Winter Soldier. I won't say why, just trust me on this. ;) I don't think Admiral Leyton is a bad guy at all. Misguided, most definitely, but has good intentions. We all know what the road to hell is paved with, though. Oh, and I don't think the intro and music changes any more for the rest of this series. :)

Ortizmo

It blew my mind that you zoned in on the "Snowden" reference. This episode was produced a full 17 years before we would know who that guy was, and even creepier.....Worf identifies the visual record of the bombing on Earth as "time index five NINE-ELEVEN". Five years prior to a real-life terrorist attack that changed the world.

David Brown

This storyline was inspired by the 1961 novel and movie Seven Days in May (1964) and its remake The Enemy Within (1994). I'd love to see you react to one or both of these movies. [Between the two, I prefer The Enemy Within (1994). Though I love them both.] Robert Foxworth (Admiral Leyton) voices one of the Transformers in that franchise's film series, plus a video game.

Summer

You have officer level thinking Jen, so some wonโ€™t understand

Michael B.

Troi sure seemed to like it. ๐Ÿ˜† Picard's brother Robert, not so much.

John Sullivan

My head canon is that Robert just likes old stuff so he pretends it's bad when it's literally a duplicate of something some chef made ๐Ÿ˜

Tony Bain

You're assuming that is what the issue is?. I personally didn't look through all the comments (maybe you did and noticed it was) so i don't know if there where tons that had negative reactions to her thoughts. I can understand why she thought the way she did, the admiral was played well, very charismatic, he legit wasn't a one dimensional person and you can see where he is coming from (even Benjamin agrees *to a degree). The problem, isn't that he was a big bad guy that had to be stopped, but that he was making perfectly understandable sense in the circumstances, but was willing to go to certain other lengths to achieve his goals, lengths that would cross a line (for Sisko's character) but to others would be more acceptable for achieving an agenda. I'm glad that she didn't try to hide here thoughts by changing the outro. Looking back on what you think or thought at other points is normal human growth (me overthinking again but i think it makes sense).

Chris Biebel

Something you have to realize is that the Changelings don't have to do much attacking themselves. They are actually doing damage through fear. One other thing you have to remember is that Odo isn't as good as most Changelings at shape shifting. He can't do faces well (which is why his face looks the way it does). When the other Changelings formed and looked like him, they were doing that by choice to make Odo feel more comfortable talking with them. As such, Odo can't take the form of a person, so you won't ever see him impersonating another character. One little Easter Egg tidbit on the episode. Notice how Captain Benteen was commanding the USS Lakota? Well, Captain Frederick Benteen was an 19th century Army officer who served with General Custer when he lost big at the Battle of Little Bighorn when they came up against...The Lakota Sioux. It was what is commonly known as "Custer's Last Stand."

Jim Kolden

The takeaway for me was that there was a bombing at a Federation/Romulan diplomatic conference. And there was at least 1 Changeling on Earth. That's it. Everything else was orchestrated by Admiral Leyton in a coup to seize power. And 26 Starfleet officers died because of it. We don't know if the O'Brien-Changeling was lying about there being 4 on Earth. And we aren't even sure if the bombing and the changelings were connected. That could have happened for any number of anti-Romulan reasons, or even been part of Leyton's plot as well.

Andrew Roach

I have not watched your next post yet but I am curious what your other thoughts are as I think you were right about everything you said. The Admiral did things wrong but may have been right, more of that great grey area DSP excels in, and yes the Changelings of course are still a threat... everywhere. Also I'm sure someone else mentioned this but we do stay with this opening and theme the rest of the way.

Clinton A

Not sure if anyone has said. You were wondering if you have seen sisko's dad before. Not the character but the actor. He ( Brock Peters) was on star trek 6 the undiscovered country I think as admiral cartwright. Also odo was in that movie too. He was the one that got the mask pulled off of him at the end.

Muggy

Agreed. He does assume a humanoid shape most of the time.
