Ian

Wow a double drop Friday , you're awesome Jen , can't praise you enough for all the hard work you put into getting these videos up for people to enjoy , you're the Vulcan best 🖖🔥💙

The_Truth

Just an FYI - an Adjutant is a person that assists a commanding officer by managing tasks, and schedules

Henchman Twenty1

That scene where Odo is sitting on the floor of his trashed quarters had such a great setup. Back in "Homefront" it was established how meticulous he was about everything being in its exact place and now he goes and wrecks it all over his emotions. It was René Auberjonois' idea to have his hair out of place, but he was told "No", but he did it anyway and they wound up liking it and kept it in.

Banes

Love Crossfire. One of my faves.

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

The plant that Odo destroys in his rage is the same one Kira gave him back in The Abandoned. It was being kept in his old bucket 🙁

2026-09-06 01:00 The show loosely follows a RL time line. Four seaons = four years = four years DS9 time

Jen wants everyone on the show to fall in love 😅

The_Truth

When the outpost was destroyed I'm surprised Jen didn't say...IT MUST BE THE BORG!!! 😅😅😅

Hey Jen, on the page that lists all your DS9 watch alongs this is listed 3 x 13-14 - Crossfire / Return to Grace

Summer

My pointing out last week that starfleet being a space organization should never be a planetary police force was a criticism of the writers not you, just to be clear, you were great Jen, but the writers should have made it clear

Ian

Not just this show in everything Jen's a true romantic 😀

Joel

Just consider the new theme the price you have to pay for getting Worf on board :)

Summer

Dukat’s wife, mother and colleagues always knew about Dukat and probably did the same things, but when it became public they acted suprised.

Dean

Can’t say Odo’s plight doesn’t resonate. When you love someone even if they don’t love you back, you want to see them happy. But that can mean it being incredibly tough to watch them fall in love with someone else. Sometimes for everyone involved, that means withdrawing from the relationship is the healthiest option. It hurts but if you truly care for that person, making them choose between their love and their friendship isn’t really fair.

Jen Murray

Thanks, just fixed! I must be in denial that we're in Season 4 already!

John Sullivan

You're supposed to sympathize with the need for more security until you stop and realize how authoritarian you've become - and what the horrible consequences are. It's good story telling.

Banes

Two great ones next week! Well, with one caveat for one of them...

Noremac

I've never understood people's love of war. I can imagine fighting over like, say, the last water on planet earth, but otherwise war seems like madness.

John DiGiantomasso

Great job as always, Jen! You and me both feel so bad for Odo here. I love the development in the relationship between Odo and Quark! Some observations: In the old theme after each verse, the lead voice fades out to oblivion in a long pause before the next verse starts. Now the next verse starts immediately after the previous ends. It just keeps right on moving, and that probably throws you off. It is amazing how the writers keep altering Dukat's trajectory, and really building the love/hate reaction we all have for him. Good guy? Bad guy? Monster? Victim? Villain? Hero??? Complicated! Damar seems like a very loyal and capable first officer! I bet he goes places. Ziyal living on DS9? Oh the possibilities! I bet you didn't have Kira/Dukat co-parenting on your bingo card!!! Writers seem to keep introducing more characters and story threads every week! Two things make me sad: 1. When you post Friday morning, when I watch it right away I have nothing to look forward to all weekend. 2. Episode 13/14 of season 4 is not only halfway through the season, you are now HALFWAY THROUGH ALL OF DS9!!! On the bright side, you're closer to Season 6 - my personal favorite! (Not that there is anything wrong with season 5...)

Love the Friday posts

I hope people weren't too critical to you last week even if they did disagree. I disagreed but didn't say anything lol.

John Sullivan

They do edit these clip shows well

Tony Bain

Well that wasn't so bad. I didn't realize it was the blood test part that some people had strong negative reactions to. Personally, that has never crossed my mind as the big issue in the episode. In those circumstances it seemed to be perfectly reasonable, and still does (to me). You do the best you can to protect people without going too far, and blood testing as standard while in these circumstances and the limitation they'd set, doesn't cross any lines for me. It is true once the changelings knew about it they could/would likely find a way around it, but that's the case with literally anything, you still TRY to defend yourself (within reason).

jon bolton

Two decent episodes, i love the m both. As you said, i think we've all been in Odo's position at some point or other, me especially as a geeky kid at school too nervous to tell a girl when i liked her lol. There's a lot i feel like saying about the second episode, but won't for spoiler reasons.

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

Man, I really like Return to Grace. It does a great job of combining both really great character stuff with a lot of big picture, world- and plot building as well. And a spot of action also. Don't get me wrong, Crossfire is a really good, heavy character ep and I quite like it. But RtG fuckin' slaps

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

In addition to just being the friendly moment that you pointed out, J, I think that Odo installing the soundproofing was a specific thank you to Quark for helping him through his rough patch.

Slate

Odo & Quark - best frenemies forever and hands down one of the best duos in all of Trek (Bashir & O'Brien are right up there too).

Desmond

Yeah, 4, 5, and 6 are the best, IMO. Not that 7 is bad, just doesn't quite reach the same peaks.

Sykonee

It was about this point it became clear that Odo was Echevarria's guy (Rene favoring another Rene? Do tell...!).

TC Green

Dukat is too casual with other’s lives, but I think he was right to blown up the Klingons. His home is being invaded and he has just captured a Klingon ship filled with intelligence. If the Klingons know he has it they can take steps to mitigate the damage. I think Kira knows he’s right and that is why she wants no part of his resistance. She has already done enough “necessary evils” for one lifetime she has no desire to sign up for more.

William Rosmer

i've found most pre streaming shows work on 1 season=1 year (unless they say otherwise)

WinkNudgeNudge

In regard to everyone wanting to meet the First Minister I'm pretty sure it's on the same level as Prime Minister or President, but of the entire planet of Bajor. So, he's a pretty important dude.

ParallaxNick

Kira's discussion of the merits of Federation vs Cardassian weapons is basically the argument about the M16 vs the AK47. The AK won hands down, which is why it's killed more than 20 million people.

Geoff S.

Ziyal, Dukat's daughter, was a Pussycat Doll at one point. Fun facts!

Desmond

Ah, first appearance of Damar, Dukat's right hand man. Keep your eye on him. I love that moment of humiliation when Dukat realizes he's not even worth it for the Klingons to destroy.

Bobby Coolbreeze

2 more good episodes Crossfire is more forgettable but was a very good character episode and development for Odo. Return to Grace is another good character episode also. We get more Kira/Dukat dynamic. Throw in the Klingons as villains and it makes for a good episode.

Ian Fleming

Not-so-fun fact: When I was an awkward teenager in the mid-90's, I went through a similar unrequited crush as Odo does in Crossfire; and I handled it just as badly when my prospective crush failed to notice my yearnings. Quark's advice (splash of cold water) to Odo meant a lot to me back then and it has kept me grounded ever since. I don't keep things bottled up, as I did back then, and I don't burst in to rages when my affection isn't returned.

Guy Incognito

Thank you again, Jen, for an entertaining reaction to these two great episodes. You see that DS9 has a wonderful character depiction far beyond the use template character presentation in other series: good vs bad, charming vs terrifying, stupid vs smart etc. Also Quarks and Odo have more layers than what is usually assigned to "aliens". They are not reduced to their race, but they're people with individual experiences and motive (just like humans). At this moment in the series, it is worthwhile to look back of the path of Gul Dukat: Where does he come from? What has he lost? What might change? He was a high ranking military leader in the Cardassian army, head of the Deep Space Nine Station and responsible for the occupied Bajor. He has a wife with many children which is very important in Cardassian society. Now he's rock bottom; captain of a civilian freighter. His home world is struggling in many ways: the Obsidian order destroyed by the Dominion, no military power against the ruthlessly fighting Klingons, a weak civilian government; even disease outbreaks in Cardassia (that's why Kira needed the vaccinations at the beginning of the episode). Dukat is still trying to be a loyal Cardassian by providing the information they've gathered on the Klingon ship to his government, but he was rejected; just like his attempts to befriend Kira. Fighting the Klingons on his own with his new ship can be considered a breaking point. Another Cardassian has entered the stage and his name was dropped multiple times during the last episode by Dukat. At another point in this series, it might be interesting to look back how his character arc has developped.
