Medusa was scary as hell as a kid in the 80s

Dylan

I love watching all these old classics with you Jen! It brings back memories to when I used to watch them with my family growing up! 🔥

Harvey Lee

I am so lucky to have seen this in the theatres as a young lad . I was mesmerized . The audience fell absolutely silent when Medusa slithered onto the screen 😯 This was the final film Ray Harryhausen worked on and has some of his best work , he personally considered Medusa one of his favorites and his most complex creation . Greek mythology , Stop motion and a Jen reaction My hump day Wednesday is awesome .👊🔥✨

Re RT scores... Keep in mind, this was several years post Star Wars. It was kind of the beginning of an 80s trend of "Let's make an old-fashioned movie" and I think that kind of worked against it. That said, while the miniatures and stop motion are great -- especially post-Star Wars -- the compositing was pretty bad, even for the time. I was 6 when this came out, and Medusa here was stuck in my head for ages.

You may recognize Burgess Meredith as Mickey, Rocky’s trainer from the Rocky movies.

I always liked Clash of the Titans, but I have to admit Jason and the Argonauts is a lot better. Jason feels less dated than Clash even though it was made 18 years earlier, and the stop motion effects are more impressive in my opinion. Medusa is the standout effect for me in this and it's fantastic. Also, the three blind witches freaked me out as a kid. They were the scariest thing in Clash of the Titans.

Not the penguin from the Batman movie!?!? Outrageous!

Kevin Sommerfield

I think when this movie came out I wouldn't have liked the owl because I wanted my fantasy to be more "serious" (grown-up). Now that I AM grown up, I like Bubo just fine. Thanks for the reaction, hope you do some of the Sinbad movies and/or Thief of Bagdad - think you would really like them!

Stephen Koehler

You need to get a view of Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger. Patrick Wayne and the ever lovely Jane Seymour play in the world of Sinbad. Its just as epic as this one and came out the same year as Star Wars. Clash of the Titans was the last film Ray Harryhausen worked on and represents the pinnacle of his craft. I hope to see you do more of these kind of movies. I am so glad you enjoy and appreciate the originals.

Carlos Stevens

I was in my teens when this movie came out. Bubo was just fine indeed.

I know I watched this as a kid, but I only really remember always seeing that gnarly movie poster with Medusa's prominent head on VHS tapes down at the rental store. There was a market for fantasy epics blossoming in the early '80s, but I think Greek epics (or 'sword and sandal' flicks in general) were starting to be thought of quite dated, especially with Conan just around the corner. Stop-motion effects were still being used, but ILM were really taking things to a new level too.
