Ian

Been looking forward to this all week I'm ready for some laughs with lady Jen after work I can't wait 😆cheers for doing this awesome show Jen you're the best

Such a great show! One thing a lot of people don't notice, because it's so quick, is Frank never seems to know what rank he is.. In his little narration at the beginning, he says he's a Sargent, Detective-Lieutenant with Police Sqaud.. Three different ranks, then he says to Sally that he's Captain Frank Drebin. Amazing. Love these shows.. Almost more than the movies

2026-09-06 01:00 Crazily, being the old man I am, I never watched this show, so it's a fun watchalong. Though i'm so looking forward to Jen's imminant watch of First Contact which should be in coming weeks.

That animal comment Drebin said to the dentist, "I am not an animal..." is from the movie Elephant Man. These were great!

Dylan

Yes! I’m so happy you reacted to this show Jen. It’s such a great show! 🔥

Drew

Thanks for watching this, Jen! There are tons of jokes one misses on a first watch. One of the earliest examples is that I think you missed that Frank Drebin's first monologue mentions a string of gorgeous fashion models being found unconscious and naked at laundromats and that he was unfortunately not assigned to that case. However, he mentions he was across town DOING HIS LAUNDRY when he was called in on the credit union murder case (then halfway into the episode, you see him driving with a load of laundry next to him).

Happy to see you reacting to this, Jen! Incredible that this series only lasted 6 episodes. I think it was just too smartly stupid - studio execs just didn't get it.

Ian

What's the word on the street Jenny 💵😉

Dylan

“We would have come earlier, but your husband wasn’t dead then.” 😂🤣

Gary Cameron

Jen caught Sally wearing the fancy clothes, drinking a martini, but missed the joke. Sally was making a "formal statement".

WinkNudgeNudge

Oh man. Amazing! I even missed that one and I've probably watched these nigh on 10 times. Haha.

Dean

Another great silly short run cop comedy was Sledgehammer! You'll love it!!

Darryl Low

Looking forward to watching this show with you Jen. I love that you have put both titles of the episode 😄 It's so much fun and the humour is so clever. This was another show that I first saw on late night tv back in the day. Only 6 episodes long. It didn't really find an audience. The makers of the show gave the explanation that it failed because it was a show that you actually had to sit down and watch to get it, rather than just something that you had on in the background. Thankfully they gave it another shot with the movies. That way they had the audience's full attention 😄

Ah yes, Sergeant Frank Drebin, Detective Leuitenant, Police Squad. Man's moving up/down/sideways through the ranks! He was a captain in the 1st episode. Goated series.

Jacob Colson

Despite the complete series (six episodes) being on dvd and blu-ray, do any streaming services have it? Are the episodes available to purchase anywhere? And yes, the no sync sometimes works for me and sometimes it doesn't. Like the past few Twilight Zones have worked for me but not the two Police Squad episodes.

Jen Murray

I feel like you'll always catch stuff you missed every time you watch!

Jen Murray

Sorry about that! If possible, try on a non-Apple device!

Stephen Dias

Love it! It's been a while since I watched this show. So many gags!

Sykonee

I knew the movies recycled some gags from this series, but kinda' shocked how many I recognized in this episode.

Jason Scade

That was awesome, fab reaction. 🥳🎉🥂 Delighted you're loving it so. Most audiences, at the time of its broadcast, were left scratching their heads at the humor. Leslie Nielsen was a pretty big movie star in previous decades to Police Squad! (in color), it's unfortune and surprising it was cancelled after only 1 season. But at least every ep is great and it's obviously influenced many comedies. Probably every Farrelly Brother film (which is a good thing, in my view). And it gave us Naked Gun, a decade or so later. It also probably inspired a later US 80s tv cop comedy/parody; Sledgehammer. (Dirty Harry gets the Drebin treatment) 😂 https://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/sledge_hammer_ The show's great intro. No spoilers. "Trust me. I know what I'm doing." (😂😂😂) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BetQTJFFkvg Straight on to ep 2 with Drebin for me now. :D Btw, in ep 1, during the dentist scene, the Drebin line "I am not an animal. I am a human being." (😂), is a reference and direct quote from the incredibly engaging, moving and touching drama/biopic 'The Elephant Man' (1980). Starring John Hurt and Anthony Hopkins, others. Dir by David Lynch. It's a must-see. Bring hankies. 91% RT Critics score and 93% RT Audience score aggregates. [Copy-pasted] Overview The Elephant Man tells the true-life story of John Merrick, a man in Victorian London with severe deformities, who is rescued from exploitation by a compassionate surgeon and gradually reveals his intelligence, sensitivity, and dignity. Filmed in evocative black and white by David Lynch, it is widely praised for its moving performances, atmospheric style, and exploration of humanity and prejudice—making it a deeply affecting and worthwhile watch. The film was also a critical success, garnering universal acclaim and receiving multiple award nominations. Both Lynch and Hurt received nominations at the Academy Awards and British Academy Film Awards. The film went on to win the Best Film award at the latter, as well as Best Foreign Film at the César Awards. TLDR; The Elephant Man never forgets to bring The Feels. See it now. Leslie Nielsen is the king of deadpan. Sledgehammer is worth watching. Jen rocks.

Jason Scade

Trust him. He knows what he's recommending. 🔫

Jason Scade

When they arrive, watching shows will be irrelevant. 🤖 😭😭😭

Ron

Since you liked Police Squad, I also recommend Get Smart (1965; 5-seasons, 25min, 138 episodes).
