I got some suggestions for silent movies to watch silently while I still have laryngitis and can't talk. I'd be sipping tea and gesturing for this. This might be for Patreon only, not sure we can edit for YouTube if I'm not talking!

Phantom of the Opera would be a great one! Classic!

Ron

I would also like to recommend, "Metropolis (1927)".

SirJohnCard

Not on the list, but Mel Brooks’ Silent Movie would seem to be a good choice as well. Get better soon.

Kristen

Spooky silent Nosferatu for Halloween weekend would be phenomenal, but I would take many of the above!

Kevin Kuenn

City Lights is the one of the few silent movies that actually holds up, in my opinion, because it was released at a time when it actually had to compete with movies with sound. You could also consider the 1976 Mel Brooks spoof, Silent Movie. It's honestly not that great, but it's less than 100 years old at least!

Helly R

I would vote for Chaplin, eg. City Lights but I think that would be better when you could laugh and comment.

Tom W.

Buster Keaton rocks.

Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown is classic. I have not seen any of the other movies except Nosferatu.

Ian

Don't think I've ever watched a silent movie but if you are watching one it's my pleasure to watch along with you Jen

Jim

I love the silent Phantom of the Opera film with Lon Chaney. Get well soon!

Liam Lewis

get well soon and rest as long as you need to Jen. Charlie Brown and Nosferatu are leaving the others in the dust ,)

Jason Scade

We're getting the silent treatment. 😋

Danny Steele

I would recommend that if it is a silent movie that you should put a Black and White filter on your video. It will look cool and will get it the spirit. You can hold up cards during your intro and conclusion of the video.

Darryl Low

So many cool movies that are landmarks of cinema. Lost World, Nosferatu, Phantom. Happy to watch any of them with you Jen. Take care of yourself 😊

Rob Nichols

Mel Brooks' Silent Movie might be a good one.

Over50Gamer

Oh, this one is a great suggestion!

Summer

Go Charlie Brown!

John Ohara

The Clara Bow silent movie “It” would be a fun choice, but one can’t go wrong with Mel Brooks “Silent Movie.”

Heespharm

You should watch coyote vs acme and hold up your reactions on a sign like the coyote does

Thomas Malley

Mel Brooks' Silent Movie is EXCELLENT. That's the name: Silent Movie (1976)

To Wa

Where's Metropolis?!

Rob Nichols

The Unknown (1927) is another great one with Lon Chaney, and a very young Joan Crawford.

Rob Nichols

"...not sure we can edit for YouTube if I'm not talking!" Apparently some would be fine with that, idiots.

RobertC

Jen totally needs to see Metropolis.

Adam Doyle

Fun Idea. Time to be a very physical reactor.

Brad Roberts

my vote is rest and recoup, but I suspect you're more likely going to watch something, so actually voted for Charlie Brown.. it's short, fun, and light hearted.

Danny Steele

Metropolis was the inspiration for C-3P0 in the Star Wars franchise. George Lucas has stated in interviews that this is the case.

To Wa

If Blade Runner had been made in the 1920s...

To Wa

She would dig it!

Matt

It's so awesome that Metropolis is set 100 years in the future, which is actually NOW! And its about AI which is supposed relevant! 🫪🤯

Matt

The Gold Rush is one of my favorite movies ever, would be perfect reaction around Christmas / New Years because thats when its set

Matt

The Artist 2011 is a must see for a modern silent movie 😊

seven tessipates

one of my favorite, modern, silent movies is The Call of Cthulhu, it's from 2005 but they craeted it as a b&w silent film, using only techniques that would have been available 100 years ago, it's only an hour- well worth checking out for Halloween!!

Ron

Update: I would like to add that I'm specifically recommending "The Complete Metropolis (2010 Berlinale Restoration, 2hr 22 to 2:29)) which includes the newly discovered missing scenes (25 min found in 2008). It also has a new recording of the original symphonic score by Gottfried Huppertz. This score was conducted by Frank Strobel and performed by the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra. (The path of the discovery itself spans nearly 80 years which I won't go into here.) This version is widely available on Apple TV, Google Play, YouTube Movies, and Amazon. Also, available on Pluto and Xumo with commercials. I own the Kino blu-ray version which is 2h 28m. I'm not a fan of the Giogio Moroder version and am not very familiar with the Osamu Tezuka version.

Andrew Malcolm

I was 100% expecting it to be on the list and it wasn't!

Randy Aiken

I don't know what we did, but it looks like we are going to get the siltent treatment from Jen!🤫

Summer

Maybe Patrick Stewart’s Christmas carol in his honor

Gary Cameron

Jen, you should TYPE your reactions! You could do it (I think) on THREE SCREENS. Just like you do now, there would be one showing the movie, then the main screen is you, the third would be the screen you are typing on. Then you COULD edit it, so that it's like a silent movie - just use a fancy font. ❤️

Gary Cameron

I'd go for that! It would also tie in with football season: Miskatonic U, Rah rah rah!

Gary Cameron

Of course! Why didn't I think of that!

Gary Cameron

Or ones that say things like "OH FRIG" or "Idiot!" 😜

Gary Cameron

I often listen to them while I work.

Ian

So there is music just no talking ?

Sykonee

Voted Lost World, but would have voted Mel Brooks' "Silent Movie" if it was an option.

To Wa

Yes! The story of the restoration is incredible in its own right.

Ken

Metropolis would be my pick if it were on the list.

To Wa

In addition to Metropolis, "Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans" should be one of choices on this poll.

To Wa

Netflix had it when they had DVDs.

To Wa

(Grampa wheeze)

Christian Benítez Ugarteche

Mel Brooks' Silent Movie it's a really great movie and it will be uplifting for you right now

Jeff H

None of the above. Relax and use your energy on yourself and your son.

John Liebling

After watching a few or one Silent Film I suggest you take a look at Chaplain staring Iron Man... Robert Downey Jr even at a younger age, was and is a great actor. Sad news on the Star Trek front over a last few days we've lost Walter Koneig - Checkov and Patrick Stewart - Picard and Professor X.

Justin Bartlett

Tv episode.... Hush from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. You'd miss some nuance but its still a really good episode

Chris Biebel

I was just about to post this. The ironic twist in that movie is hilarious. It's basically a movie centered around one joke.

Chris Biebel

I went with "The General" which is the only one I think I've actually seen. It's based on a true story of a Confederate engineer who chased after a train that had been stolen by Yankee spies during the American Civil War. A lot of people like to joke about that story, but the original Yankee plan was sound (destroy the bridges behind them before an invasion by Northern forces to prevent the Southern forces from resupplying through the railroad) and would have worked if they spies hadn't been delayed a day in their travels by rain, which meant that the Southerners were already mobilizing against the threat, which slowed their northern travels in the stolen train.

Wesley

One of my favorite genre of movies, is movies about making movies, and "Shadow of the Vampire" is all about a fictional making of "Nosferatu". So Nosferatu all the way, and one day we can watch Shadow of the Vampire.

KP

who do you think you are? Buster Keaton in the Twilight Zone or sumthin'??

KP

I clicked all the movies. Just watch all the movies ever, 'k? Thx!

Summer

Come on 70 more for Charlie Brown!

John Adams

I know it probably would be unlikely to get votes, but I'd like to suggest Spione by Fritz Lang. A lot of people are mentioning Fritz Lang's Metropolis (quite rightly, it's fantastic) but Spione is a slightly lesser watched Lang espionage thriller it's a lot of fun in its own right and it's also fun to see the elements that the James Bond franchise clearly inherited from it.

Daddy Dogg Abbott

Charles M. Schulz _ he was one of the art college groups I was in

Jen Murray

Since this will be a silent watch, i wanted to save Metropolis for a time I can talk!

Patrick Turman

Sunrise is a great one. And also Broken Blossoms.

Jonas

Nosferatu will probably win because it's Halloween, but The Kid is such a good movie.

Mr. Writhms

One of my all time favorite silent movies is "Speedy" with Harold Lloyd. Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplan are great but don't sleep on Harold Lloyd. Give it a peep! And feel better! 🏵
