MRE's and space food are basically the same concept, and neither are that bad actually. I mean old school MRE's sure, and if you're used to constant restaurant grade food it won't match up, but you can keep all sorts of stuff in an MRE or space food. It's just dehydrated and vacuumed so you just add hot water. I mean just look up a modern US army MRE. You got chicken stirfry, marinara meatballs, straight up pizza slices...

i had an MRE food before when i was just playing with my friends during high school and it traumatized me so bad because it was disgusting LMAO

Lol fair, depends on where you get it. I have a cousin who's military and he's shared MRE's with me before and while they're not like restaurant food they're still pretty good lol

French MRE are supermaket quality, which is average to good, so it depend if it's dehydrated or cans. Also, Space rations are supposed to be extra good, because it's one of the few thing that remind them of Earth while isolated in a plastic can above Earth. I know that when the french astronaut was up there, the recipe were thought by Michelin's chef to optimize nutrients and taste.

Soba is a kind of noodle that can be hot or cold, but there are Hiyashi Chuka that use normal ramen, you cook them, bath in cold water and it become a japanese pasta salad-ish. Very good dish in summer. I did post some in the discord. Mind you cold ramen is not frozen ramen :D For the covering part its because the dry cup noodle we have are undercook ramen, you cover them to finish the cooking, while War ration is all cook and frozen DONE. So you unfreeze it and you can eat it now.

Yeah, space rations are... stellar *badum tss* and I believe it's actually development in space rations that improved MRE's here on earth cause it drastically reduced difficulty and cost to package more high quality products which led to MRE's rocketing in quality overall. USA has always done their best with it though cause one of the great demoralizers is when you realize your enemy is eating better than you are while fighting you in your own yard. Ice Cream ships of WW2 are one of the notorious versions.
