"Wow, it's been so long since I've been with someone who doesn't know what a selfish pig I am." - Homer Simpson

When massive downpours strike Springfield, Homer seeks roofing assistance—and finds it in a helpful, friendly fellow named Ray. But when no one else can confirm this newcomer's presence, Homer earns himself a one-way trip to the loony bin.

WOW! Hearing Bob snap at Henry is like hearing your parents fight for the first time 😅

Mike Mariano

Besides this episode, I am only aware of Ray Romano from the movie The Grand from 2007, a film that tries to do a Christopher Guest-type thing for professional poker. Romano plays a gambler obsessed with the movie Dune and drinks his own concoction of the Mentat juice from the David Lynch film. Like Henry surmises, it’s a stretch beyond just doing his sitcom persona again.

To clarify some comments in this episode, a brief history of The Three Stooges: There's a vaudeville act called Ted Healy and his Stooges, played by Moe Howard, Shemp Howard, and Larry Fine. Shemp leaves the group to go Hollywood, and is replaced by his and Moe's brother Curly. Also around this time, people realize no one really cares about Ted Healy, so they break off as The Three Stooges. They make theatrical shorts for about 15 years, until Curly has a series of strokes and is replaced by Shemp. Curly dies not long after. The group continues making shorts until Shemp dies of a heart attack mid season/production order. They finish off a few shorts using stock footage and actors holding boxes in front of their faces (which is where the "Fake Shemp" credits in Sam Raimi movies come from). They try to keep the act going by adding Joe Besser, but it doesn't quite work, and the studio ends the series. Joe leaves the group. The Stooges regroup for a series of movies with Joe DeRita, renamed Curly Joe. Everyone looks very old. While shooting a pilot for a live action TV show, Larry has a stroke, and the group calls it quits.

Thad Komorowski

Actually, Moe was so damn committed to the act that after Larry’s stroke, he wanted to replace Larry with Emil Sitka! Insane but true.

It was mildly shocking lol glad to hear the apology at the end

Don

It's funny hearing Bob snapping at Henry, he is so annoying I'm surprised it doesn't happen multiple times an episode.

My sister in law actually worked at Earls as a bar tender when she was doing her degree. She actually tried to get into the serving side of the staff and they told her that; "her physique didn't suit earls image" to make a long story short she quit shortly after.

wildlandblazed

Oh come on we can't pretend it only takes one annoying person to make a Simpsons podcast for 10+ years

Drew Mackie

I was there for it! It was like seeing Dad and Dad have a fight at the dinner table. I thought there would be fisticuffs

Drew Mackie

You have a weird relationship with this podcast, fucko

Matty

Apparently Bob doesn't like Henry finishing his sandwiches.

Tyler M.

Why would they pay for our podcast just to boo us?

nu magik

just so you know bob they call them "earl's girls"

PurpleComet

It's true that electroconvulsive therapy has found to be effective for extreme mental health conditions, but it's only used when other options haven't worked and the patient is unconscious during procedure.

Sara Syd

I was saying Boo-ob

Sara Syd

Exactly, and it doesn't look like it does in Requiem for a Dream, not these days

Don

It's the best, most indepth podcast about the Simpsons. Its my favourite show and I still learn multiple things each episode. It just so happens I find the hosts extremely annoying at times. Hearing Bob sound like me when he was pissed at Bob was funny. Not the weirdest thing in the world

Dead In Denver

Boost Mobile: "Yo where you at?" That's what I remember about them. Bout it.

Drew Mackie

I think it’s weird that you feel free to tell Henry or Bob that they are annoying. What do you expect them to take away from that? They’re not going to tell you because they’re the hosts of the show, but I will tell you: don’t fucking do that. It’s weird and rude for you to come here with that.

Don

I called them annoying, I don't know if criticism on the internet can get more tame than that. People are allowed to find other people annoying, I was literally commenting about one of the hosts being annoyed with the other one. Like I said before, this is the best podcast about my favourite show, but if I want to comment something positive or negative I'm going to go ahead and comment. Anyways, hope you're on again soon, you're always a good guest on the pod

Tyler M.

Re: The Boost Mobile ad and "two way." I am nearly certain this refers to the short-lived, texting only two way pagers which I knew as simply a "two way." These things were around for a hot second when I was in high school (which was when this episode aired) and blew up right before texting was on cell phones. The partial reason why they blew up in my school was due to a kid working at a cell phone kiosk and committing fraud, but that's a story for another time. You can see one of these in the Nelly video for Dilemma. Kelly Rowland uses one at 3:16 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WYHDfJDPDc

Dennis K

This is how I learn there are commentary tracks for Dr. Katz. I've marathoned the series probably five times over as background noise at work since someone put every episode on youtube. Gonna have to hunt those down.

Drew Mackie

“He is so annoying I’m surprised it doesn’t happen multiple times an episode” is a snarky judgment. You paying money does not mean you’re entitled to come here and say stuff like that. Have some respect.

Don

You're still going on about this? I promise you I am not going to listen to anything you've said.

Bradford A Barker

That image makes the rounds as "Kelly Rowland enters a text in Excel"

Boarding Party

The "You Moved!" bit made it sound like I was gonna have to spend the weekdays at Bob's and the weekends at Henry's

Ben

All this Ray Romano, and not a single reference to our loved and missed Henchman 24.

Ryan Cozzens

I was going to say this... It's just texting 😂😂😂
