Overall pretty solid second half. The finale has me curious where they're gonna go next. I think my favorite episode is when they all go to hell..literally.

I had only watched the first 4 or 5 episodes until preparing for this podcast, so in the few days before hand I caught up and watched Part 2 ep 8 last night, and I've gotta say it's a lot of fun. I'll certainly agree with you guys that the episodic adventures are better than the plot-driven stuff, I still enjoy the overarching story a lot, and it is kinda nice to see changes stick sometimes, rather than the rubber band reality and resets that have to happen on things like the Simpsons and Futurama. I'll definitely check out the third part whenever they roll it out.

It is easy to feel conflicted about this show. You definitely feel that there's the potential for more gag-heavy episodic adventures, akin to Futurama, but I also really liked what they did with the characters this season. Bean and Luci are both much more rounded and empathetic, and Elfo isn't unbearably grating, which I'll take as a plus. I wanted more of the extended cast as well, and they could definitely afford to leave Dreamland more often, but the dramatic stakes of a vastly superior nation and all the magic lore underpinning Dreamland are genuinely interesting. I do hope they let go of the reins a bit now that the universe is better established, particularly as there's so much vocal talent being underutilised. On the whole though, I'm more invested than I expected to be in the characters and the plot, and I feel like that's entirely down to the time they've invested in building those core characters through the continuity.

When I watched this episode I said to myself "This is definitely the episode Bob and Henry are going to do." It's a very Bill Oakley episode and also one of the best in the "not second season." I enjoyed the progression in the characters this season. Last season I wasn't sure if I like any of the main characters outside of Luci, but now I'm fully onboard with Bean and Elfo as well. I think a lot of that is just the writers being more comfortable with how they should write those two, but my in-canon explanation for the change in Elfo is due to him tasting heaven and then being returned to life (with a trip through hell for good measure). I do find myself not caring too much about the larger plot and I have no idea where the next batch of episodes is going (I'd guess that much like this batch, we'll see the character elsewhere for 2 or 3 episodes and then back to Dreamland), but I also don't care. As long as it remains funny and charming with its interesting visual style I'll be back.

I feel the exact opposite of bob and Henry with this season. I found the standalone episodes to be the weakest and the front part of the season to be the strongest. I like that this team is trying to have a real storyline in the show, but they have to stay consistent if that’s what they want to do. Going back to siloed adventures that did nothing to impact the status quo felt like they were wasting time, like hitting filler in an anime where the plot just got good. I ended up finishing the season feeling disappointed that so much momentum was lost in the middle, ending on another cliffhanger we won’t see addressed for another year. At least with a traditional TV show we would only have to wait 3-4 months for the story to resume.

You guys are absolutely right- I can't count how many discussions I'm effectively out of because I don't immediately binge an entire season of a show hours after it premieres. Dunno that you needed to go so far as to talk about the next-to-the-next-to-the-last episode of the current season of this show to prove the point, though ;). I'll come back to the rest of this episode when I'm current in a week or two!

Did they establish what happened to the life saving macguffin? Did Oona take it? I really don't remember it being referenced after the first arc.
